Hidden gem

Course is in great shape and an excellent value. I would much rather drive to Bristow than drive around DC to the Montgomery county tracks.

Good Value for the area

I played this course with my father and needed something in good shape but under $80/round. This course had received decent reviews and the price was right so I picked Herndon.
The staff was very pleasant to deal with practice area was sufficient and well maintained. The starter kept the flow moving as well as possible and was very helpful. The course itself was in very good condition considering the wet summer we've had. The fairways were in great shape save 2. The rough was a reasonable length and tee boxes were acceptable, Where the course impressed was the condition of the greens, which happens to be the most important aspect of course conditions to me. Even though there were man many people golfing that day (which lead to a very slow round) he greens were not beat up and rolled true. There is enough variations in the greens and interesting hole placement to reward dart throwers or solid putters. The course is fairly short but throws in a few doglegs to keep bombers in check. This course will lend to lower score, but who doesn't enjoy that? Overall, I am glad to have taken my father there and we had a great time. (did I mention how good the food was?) I would definitely come back to this course especially considering the price is lower than surrounding courses in worse shape... Just be sure to bring some bug spray.

super friendly staff, subpar course

I have been on the search for "my course" in the northern VA area since moving here. I decided to try this course because it had decent reviews and is 15 min from my house. Upon arrival the staff are very friendly and everything is well organized and the club house, while small was well maintained. There was a putting green available but no driving range, just a net for one person to hit into. I was paired with 2 nice gentlemen that frequent this course and they were happy to guide me around. The lay out is nice as the front is rather open and the back tightens up to offer more of a challenge. They work in a fair amount of dog legs so shot makers and bombers have equal chance. The 2 sand traps I found myself in were well manicured and fluffy enough to out without much concern. The view from 17 is great and the venture back to the club house on 9 and 18 are very nice. The only draw back to this course was the condition. This may be because the amount of traffic they get but it was in rough shape. The fairways need attention but the main offender was the greens. They were all slow, but not consistently slow so it was difficult to get a good feel throughout the round. Some greens had bare sand/mud spots but all were riddled with unrepaired divots that made navigating them like traversing a mine field. My tee time was 9:20am so it isn't like they had all day to take the beating. This, unfortunately, was enough issue to bring my day down. It was frustrating getting gir and 3 putting to bogey because there was not a good roll to be had. If the greens were cleaned up I would come back but currently at its mid level price range you could do better paying much less at East Potomac for similar/slightly better conditions or a little more further out for much better conditions.

Not bad but there are better.

We decided to play this course to try something different. The staff was polite and we were able to tee off 15 minutes early. The guys we were teamed up with were very nice and pretty funny so we had an enjoyable day. As for the course, all tee boxes were in good condition. A lot of the fairways were in pretty rough shape and a few were more difficult to hit off than the rough, which was actually manicured pretty well. Some fairways do slope into the trees but the foliage was not too dense to prevent an easy punch out. The greens were a bit slow but maintained well with the exception of unrepaired divots. As for the layout, most holes where straight or slight dog legs with generous fairways. There were a few blind shots into danger and there is a string of holes on the back nine that were challenging and well thought out. A second outing here would certainly lend to shaving some strokes off. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves but the condition did not warrant the price when Forest Greens is around the corner for only a few more dollars.

Fantastic Course aith Fantastic Value in the NOVA area

Went out for a foursome for fathers day weekend. We picked this course because our group was coming from Baltimore and Richmond and Forest Greens is almost exactly between the two and easy to find right off 95. The staff was extremely courteous and very helpful and we took advantage of paying an extra $6 for the advantage card that offers a free round of golf. The fairways are first rate and the greens were the best I've played all year. There are many elevation changes and quite a few blind shots that add to the challenge of this course. Although well manicured the rough was some of the most difficult I have hit out of and when combined with a few of the tight fairways I would probably have taken an iron off a few of the tees in retrospect. The play was slow as this seems to be a popular course in the area but the Marshall was there to keep the pace going and was pleasant about it. All in all it was one of the better courses I have played in a while and this confirmed by the rest of my group. We have agreed that this will be our meet up course moving forward.
