A fun round of golf

My first time playing the course. I did not expect a lot for the price, and was pleasantly surprised. A fun layout, with homes set well back from the course..
I would play it again

A nice round

I arrived early for my round, as a single.
The staff was very accommodating, and allowed me to sneak out ahead of the women's group.
The fog was lifting, and the day developed into a comfortable round.
The course is easy to walk, as it is very flat.
The front winds among the houses in the community. The back plays more of an open field.
All in all, a great day for golf.

An interesting Experience

Where to start? at the beginning. Arrived for my tee time. Bag drop was closed. Parked and carried my bag to bag drop, only to see a sign apologizing for issues because of lack of staff. These signs were posted all over the clubhouse. Dining area was closed.
Staff all in all, were friendly enough, but always apologizing.
The course has a lot of construction going on throughout the course. As you drive through the parking lot, following the signs to the practice area, your cart is constantly beeping at you to alert you of an unauthorized area.
Leaving the practice area, you see a sign pointed to North one tee. You drive down that path and dead end in a construction zone.
Back to the Golf Shop to find the One North Tee is across another road, in a completely different direction.
after playing 9 it's back through the parking lot to the road that said was to one, bit actually goes to 10.
After 11 you go alongside a construction area.
You reach two holes off to your left. Again, no marking that one is 12, and the other 18.
Fairways were in OK shape at best.
The main grass was scalped to very thin grass. But, tufts of a different grass would grow to almost rough height throughout the course.
Played with a very nice couple, and pace was just over 4 hours, even though they indicated the course was full.
After the round, went to the golf shop, only to see a sign indicating they closed at 2:30
Not really what I expected for the price.

Disappointed

Usually I leave a 5 star review for Classis Club. This time was diffeRent.
Had to be somewhere for a meeting. Booked the first tee time. Paid premium to get it. Got to the first tee, and the starter informed me there was a shotgun tournament going out. He indicated they would not be a concern, as we would not ever see them.
Last group in the shotgun tees off on hole 6. We caught them on hole 7.
Long waits on every tee box after that.
Would have been noice to know about the tournament when I reserved the time.
Would have made other decisions.

Great course for beginners

Tee' d of as the 5th group in the morning. Pace of play went real well. Finished in 3 hours 45 minutes.
Course was showing signs of summer transition. A lot of the fairways were brown. They looked like they had been Vericut, but had not grown in yet.
I'm sure this course will be in great condition during the fall/winter season.
The Fairways are extremely wide, and hard to miss. There are very few obstacles to get in your way between tee and green.
Got a great rate from GolfNow. If not, I likely would have played elsewhere. But all in all, I enjoyed the course.

What great customer service

I played this course years ago, as part of a tournament rotation, and have always had it in the back of my mind as a replay. But, not living in the area, I have been unable to get back.
The opportunity finally came to be, and I jumped at the chance.
I made my reservation online, and showed a rate of $89. I booked as a single golfer, at the earliest tee time available.
The day before play, I received an email stating there was an issue with my tee time, and to call them. I was told there was a shotgun scheduled to start on holes 14-18, starting 2 1/2 hours after my time. They did not feel t would interfere with my time, but wanted to make me aware. WOW!!
On arrival, I was informed there was an issue with mold on a few of the back 9 greens, that they have been battling for some time. For that reason, the greens were rolling at about a 9.
Because of this, the rate I was charge was reduced to $50. Double WOW!
AND, I was instructed to start on hole 14, to avoid the shotgun event. TRIPLE WOW!
Loved hitting the ball so far at altitude. Perfect scenery from every hole.
Enjoy the round, enjoy the scenery

Expected more

If I was a member of this country club, I would be extremely disappointed.
Arriving at this course, the facilities appear to be well kept. Adjusting for coronavirus, it seemed to me the pro shop was a little on the small side, with a small variety of amenities. The restaurant area was clean, but closed in the early AM hours.
As for the course, this is where I would suspect the members would demand more.
The tee boxes were a little on the shaggy side, with patches of what looked like crabgrass growing up.
This grass extended to the fairways, and in places the fairways were bare dirt.
The mowers were out the day I played, but it did not appear to be doing very much.
I doubt I would be returning to this course soon

Everything you've heard is true

What a pleasant surprise. As noted by others, this course has a great layout. The course sits between Sacramento Airport and the Sacramento river.
Plane traffic is directed away from the course, so is not a noise concern. The holes are all separated from each other by trees. With 10 minute tee intervals, you hardly ever see other golfers.
The fairways are extremely wide, giving plenty of room for errant drives. Greens run true.
All in all, a great experience. Worth a replay next time I am in Sacramento

Bucket list crossed off

What more can be said? It's Kapalua!!! yeah, it's price., But yeah, you can say you played it. After the redesign, course conditions have changed. The roll out you used to get is not there now. But it will return.
Nothing like standing on the 10th tee, on a picture perfect day, and watch whales jumping everywhere.
Staff is professional. Want something, don't hesitate to ask. They will do everything to accommodate.
Don't forget to get your complimentary engraved bag tag.
Course is kept in immaculate condition. From the tee boxes to the greens. Played 2 days. First was right after the greens were top dressed, and were slow. Played a week later and the ball rolled like on a table top,
Couldn't ask for a better experience. Planning my next trip.
One tip, Check put the Tournament package. You get rounds of golf on the Bay course, one on the Plantation, and a hour private golf lesson at the learning center.
Best lesson I ever got. Ask for Ben.

The teeth of the dog

Here's where it gets real. This is the toughest of the 3 courses at Wailea. Loved every minute of it.
Staff remembered me, after playing the Emerald course earlier. Made me feel welcome.
It is hard to keep your focus on this course, with the views of the ocean and Molikini on almost every hole.
The gold course has a large amount of bunkers, that seem to jump out and bite you. Just try to stay out of them. But, they play true, and are fairly easy to get out of.
Multiple tees to allow you to play to your ability. Don't be afraid to play forward, if you have any doubt.

The Baby course

Hey, you're on the island of Maui, and you are at Kapalua.
What more is there to say. Yes, this is the afterthought when you think of Kapalua. The club house was moved, recently. It is now the old Village course clubhouse was.
With such, the course now plays in a different order than prior. That is ok, because the ocean holes play toward the end.
What a sight, when you stand on 16 tee, and watch whales playing in the bay. Or the unforgettable view from the 17 tee, as you tee over the ocean..
The only downside I noted was the bunkers. The sand is fluffed up so much, your feet sink getting in and out. As such, playing from the bunkers is a whole new experience.
Play the Champions Package. You get rounds on the Bay course, one on the Plantation, and a one hour private lesson at the learning center.

A little disappointed

Being a Troon member, I was a little disappointed in what I found.
The staff was very friendly, and allowed me to tee of earlier than my tee time.
Arriving at the first tee, I was disappointed to see patches of a broad leaf grass growing. On arrival to the fairways, found large patches of bare dirt and sand. The green also hatch large patches where it looked like the grass had burned out, and just bare dirt. This continued throughout the course. I came upon a course worker with a utility vehicle and a large tank spraying the large blades of grass at the tees and fairways.
The layout of the course is nice, and plays true. I enjoyed the views, but think the course could use a lot of TLC

A must play

I can see why this was rated a must play by Golfweek magazine. The middle difficulty course of the 3 at Wailea.
After an error of my own making, I missed my original tee time. Yet, they went out of their way to fit me in to a rather busy schedule
This course starts off with a par 4 downhill, playing straightaway. Stand on the tee, and it is hard to concentrate, with the view facing you.
All the hole play tighter than the Old Blue course. But they also play fair.
Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Practice area sits on a hill. Your clubs are loaded on to pre-staged carts, based on course playing and tee time. They have specific carts designated strictly for range access. So, you do have to transfer clubs. Not a big hassle.
Tees, greens, fairways, and yes bunkers are kept in immaculate condition, and play true.
Enjoyed the round, and was sorry to see the 18th green. Could have gone on for hours longer.

Great local experience

What a great time. This is the course the locals play. As such, it was a great time. Waiehu is a municipal course.
They take reservations 2 days in advance for groups of 2 or more. Playing as a single, I was paired with a group of locals. That was the best decision I could ever experience. It was a blast to play with the locals.
When you arrive, you go to the starters booth, and pay your green fee, CASH ONLY. The course is very walkable, but if you want a cart, you go to the Pro Shop, and can use a credit card or cash.
yards, The course is not real long., and has 2 tee boxes. Forward plays to 5478 yards. Back plays to 6330.
The front 9 plays along the ocean, and the wind can affect all shots. The back nine is more inland, but still affected by wind.
Greens roll at average speed, and grain comes in to play. The fairways are in no way at resort conditions, but were well mowed.
Would love to play here again

Fun course to play

The easiest of the 3 at Wailea. Course is set back from the ocean. Designed to allow for play of all levels. Fairways are wide, and forgiving, so play moves along quite quickly.
Tees, greens and fairways were immaculate. Balls rolled true.
Most holes had views of the ocean and Molikini.
Wind came up on the back nine, and had to learn to hit the low punch shot into the wind. Made for a great learning experience.
Staff was very helpful and lets you go off the first tee early if you are ready.
Would love to play this course again.

Well woth the drive

A Troon course in the middle of nowhere. I had heard a number of good things about this course, and knew I had to play here.
I was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Practice range is from mats, but range balls are included in price.
From the first tee, to the last green, this course is well laid out. And the views are spectacular.
I would not hesitate to play this course when I am passing through the area in the future

A hidden gem

I have come to learn that a majority of the time when an out of the way drive is required to reach a golf course, the course is going to be worth the drive. This was the case at Saddle Creek.
The course is a real hidden gem. Layout was well thought out. No two holes play together.
The fairways are immaculate and very forgiving.
Loved the course, and will definitely play when I am in the area again

A must play

Having seen this course listed in Golfweeks "Best Places You Can Play," I decided I had to make the 2 hour drive from Palm Springs.
I was not disappointed.
First impression was this course was in the middle of nowhere. But, once you get in to the course, everything changes.
First, the driving range is stocked with Pro V1 range balls. Nice touch.
Then, when you get to the course, the tee times are spread out to make for an enjoyable round, without the wait between shots.
Had we not been a twosome, behind a foursome, we likely would not have seen a single individual the whole round.
Give this course a chance when in the Cochella Valley. You won't be disappointed.

A little disappointed

Normally, this time of year, I would expect the course to be a little soft from rain. I did find the fairways to be fairly solid, with some roll.
I was able to easily walk for 18 holes, with very little mud accumulating on my shoes.
Where I was disappointed was on the conditions of the greens and approaches.
On all of the greens, they felt like walking on a sponge. You could literally see foot print depressions in the green, and any chance of a pitch and run were negated by the fact that the approaches were soo soft. On one 160 yard par 3, I hit a 6 iron, and the ball plugged on the green. Half of the ball was below the surface of the green.
Oh well, lesson learned
