The Club at Venetian Bay
Played On 03/01/2018Really enjoyable, beautiful WARM day. After bad winter in NC, nice to have great weather!
My friend and I were 4th group off in the morning. Ranger told us the situation, and we teed off a few minutes early. Beautiful central Florida day. Course was in great shape - fairways hard and fast, greens were quick. Took a little getting used to, coming from North Carolina where it has rained A LOT. We were invited to play through the 3 groups ahead, so everyone was very cordial. Really enjoyed it. Course has interesting holes, some water (not really in play, but still there). Of the 4 courses close to New Smyrna Beach, I like this one the best.

St. Petersburg Country Club
Played On 02/22/2018I hereby retract my previous positive rating
The course is in magnificent shape. Greens are great, fairways are fast and true. Just a great atmosphere. I paired up with 3 really good guys. Not a problem, but then, we played the front 9 in about 2:10. Not bad for Florida during "the season". Went to the turn, and waited 30 minutes to tee off on #10. No idea what happened, but I had to quit after 4 hours on 14 tee box. Rode back to clubhouse, and there was a 5-some that was a hole and half behind. Have to assume they were the bottleneck. Not a ranger in sight. Sorry, I love the course, and I know I am not a member any more, but too many other places to play. I know members get priority. I get that, but please, members wouldn't put up with this.
Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/31/2015Really enjoy playing here
Have played twice as a member of Western Piedmont Seniors group, so can't really comment on Pace of Play or Value. Wonderfully laid out course - typical D. Ross greens - elevated (either a lot on uphill holes or just a little bit on the level or downhill ones). Just enough that a run up shot is very difficult. Greens are really excellent, but require precision shots to hit and hold them, especially with longer irons. Beautiful scenery. Only comment is food service people are terrible. Twice there, tried to get a sandwich both times, never yet even been acknowledged. Not sure what their problem is, but based on my experience, don't bother. Seemed most of the people in there were members. Go for the golf, that is great.
The Golf Club of Cypress Creek
Played On 03/05/2015Always a challenge, but always Fun
If you haven't played it, do it! It has always been a wonderful layout. Some great holes, some can be real beasts, especially when the winds blow. But hardly any weak holes. Now that I have moved up to white tees, it seems a lot easier. The last four (or five, if you count the Par 5 14th) holes can be round-wreckers. But you will not be bored. Some condition issues when it rains, but today was wonderful. Greens are perfect; fast, true, but very tough to read. All together, a fun, different type of course. Most of it doesn't even have houses on it, maybe only 4 holes. Enjoy. Tough, but fun.

Played On 02/25/2015A Very Pleasant Return
I was a member at this Club for about 4 years. I always enjoyed the course. But I had forgotten how challenging it can be. The course is very deceptively difficult. Well placed bunkers, both in the fairways and around the greens, make this generally flat course very interesting. Also, an interesting mix of easy and very difficult holes. The par 3's are always a challenge, and several of the par 4's will definitely test you. Greens are currently in excellent condition, very quick and consistent. It was great to return - like seeing an old friend who is aging well.
Spruce Creek Country Club
Played On 01/28/2015Good Day on the LInks
I was the "dewsweeper" at 7:30 AM, before anyone else, so I can't really judge Pace of Play. The course was a delight for me to play. Except for two holes, which were extremely wet and cart path only, it was in terrific shape. The greens in particular were perfect (for me) - very fast and absolutely true, but you do have to hit good shots to hold them. I talked to several of the workers - they take a lot of pride in their greens. Back nine has more interesting holes, with more Agua in play. If you like quiet, you may want to go elsewhere - there were probably a hundred take-offs from the Fly In runway right in the middle of the front nine. I will definitely return.
Old Corkscrew Golf Club
Played On 03/18/2014Wonderful Experience. Exceptional Golf
We booked our round on GolfNow. Expensive, but I had heard so much about it, wanted to try it. We truly enjoyed the day. Staff, starter were exceptionally friendly. The course plays very fast, with lots of roll in the fairways (ball tends to roll INTO trouble, of which there is plenty). The 144 slope indicates the character of the course, but there is always plenty of room to hit tee shots. The greens have impressive bunkers, are relatively hard and plenty quick, although not any quicker than many other courses in the area. A shot left in the bunkers left difficult up and downs. We loved the fact there are no houses anywhere near the course, and while the conditioning is superb, it doesn't have the "country club manicured" look. I like that. Seems to remind me of Pinehurst-area courses more than Florida. I can't wait to try it again. Several "blow-up" holes, but I would love to do it again.
