Needs work

Real review from 7 handicap. The course is a three star but the fairways are in poor condition. The pace of play on this Friday afternoon was very slow - they just push too many players onto the course. The staff was polite and the clubhouse is reasonably nice.

Greens Aerated March 31 2020

Enjoyed playing and appreciate that Stonewall is open. course is generally in spring condition, fairways good. However, they aerated and sanded the greens on March 31 with no notice to players. These will take some time to heal. Modified shallow cups are very good - can easily pick the ball out without touching anything. One person per cart was implemented with Covid-19 for now.

Room for Improvement

On a nice sunny March 8 the setup and course conditions at Whiskey Creek were not ready for prime time spring golf. Many tees were covered with tarps and the white tee was way forward, and the back tees in place. The greens had been aerated and sanded some time ago so putting was difficult. Compounding the problem was that the green pin placements were HORRIFIC. There were literally about 12 holes where the pin was within eight feet of the edge of the green, often on slopes, for no apparent reason. This slowed down spring play and increased frustration on the greens - both not good for early March play. I mentioned both the tees and pin placements to Connor in the pro shop and this had been a complaint from many golfers for a second day.

To add to this, Whiskey Creek didn't have its course turned on in the GHIN USGA score posting system yet due to "winter conditions" so a score couldn't be posted by any players.

Whiskey Creek is a good layout with great views on select holes. I hope the staff can learn from this reivew.

Flamingo - Showing its Age

Played Lely Flamingo early 12/28/2019. This is a well designed challenging course but it felt like a public resort course. Tee times are cramped together and David the starter is trying to manage a lot of players going off on both Flamingo and Mustang. The Flamingo course was wet, fairways in only good condition, greens were very good - not real fast. However, Lely is now showing its age and management is not maintaining parts of this facility and it shows. Cart paths are cracked, fences around pond/path areas are falling apart, water station needs an update, etc. There is also a mix of grasses growing in the rough areas and select trees and tree base areas not far off the fairways are not being cleaned up and trimmed. I have photos but you get the idea.

Sentryworld is a Gem

Played August 31, 2019 and the course was in excellent condition. Course is challenging and the greens somewhat fast. However, the course renovation a few years reduced the number of forced carries to the greens and added a few new/modified holes. The driving range, practice area, and PJ's Restaurant are each first class and the staff is great, led by Mike and Brian.

Trip included playing at Sand Valley (Mammouth Dunes) (over-priced and hyped) and University Ridge (very nice and well worth it) and Sentryworld was the best.

Overall, Disappointed

Mamouth Dunes and Sand Valley was nice, but disappointing. Having played Streamsong and many other high end golf destination courses, my expectations were high. Mamouth Dunes was dry, greens very hard, putting difficult. Course is open off the tee, there is a ton of large sand bunkers and waste areas and its difficult to stop the ball near the hole, and I am a good player. The two big disappointments were the driving range/practice area (tons of divots, no real targets just a totally flat range with 4-5 pins like a muni range and the pace of play. Almost 5 hours and we only finished 10 minutes after the group in front of us. The clubhouse was nice, but some basics are missing like a decent size locker room (basement) and no fitting room in the proshop,
