Darn Mosquitoes!!!

Ok, to begin with I can't really comment that much on the golf course and it's layout because we never finished it. The mosquitoes were literally eating us alive.

The course is built in and around marshes, and there is no movement with the water, so it's stagnant water, which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Also for me since I play the back tees, and it was our first time there, there were so many tee boxes for me where I could not see the fairway and had no idea where to aim. Luckily we were using an app that showed us the layout of the hole and I could try and glean from that the general direction to go for my blind tee shot.

Blind tee boxes and mosquitoes made this a very unpleasant experience. What we ended up doing was calling over to the Genoa Lakes - Ranch course and got a time over there and played 18.

So unfortunately I can't really comment on the quality of the golf course, but the few holes we did play had some struggle with the quality of the fairways. The greens seemed to be Ok, but it was hard to concentrate on what was good or bad when you are slapping blood suckers every second.

Perfect day, nice golf course

This was one of the five courses that we played on our Lake Tahoe vacation, and it was a great choice.

Being one of a few courses in Truckee, CA just north of the lake, it didn't disappoint. Each hole weaved up and down and through the tall pines creating some picturesque and challenging tests.

I play from the back tees and with the bit of wind that day, it made some holes quite long. But the course conditions were perfect and the weather was around 82 degrees which was also perfect, so I didn't stress about it.

Coming from the Palm Springs area where the elevation in some cities is actually BELOW sea level, it was nice to get that little extra yardage from the higher elevation, a little over 7000 feet.

So overall, I would definitely play this course again.

Really fun, but can be windy

We liked this course so much we played it twice on our vacation. It had some problems with some fairways, but the layout was fun for me playing from the back tees, and my girlfriend playing from the ladies tees.

This area evidently can be windy quite often, so be prepared for that. But the course winds up and down the hillside making for some fantastic views and challenges with elevation changes on your shots.

Ok muni, but be careful.

The course was Ok as a muni course, but when I read other reviews, I assumed this was more of a resort course. It's not! The course conditions were fair for a muni, the driving range was pretty poor even for a muni since it was all chewed up.

The staff was great, but beware of reviews. There is no way to interpret the reviews based on context. Giving this course a 5-star rating is very misleading, when a course like Paiute will also get 5-stars, and deservedly so.

I assume those who gave this course a 5-star rating are generally playing muni courses and not resort courses, which most courses in Henderson and Las Vegas are. So be careful when making your evaluation of a course based on a reviewers rating and don't make the same mistake I made.

I was looking for another good resort course in Henderson since I played many of the other courses already, and this course had many stars.

Understand that this is a muni course and NOT a resort course. The amenities you are used to with a resort course and the general course conditions will not be found here at Chimera.

And let me be clear, I am not berating Chimera as a golf course. I just issuing a warning to others that reviews of golf courses can be very very misleading as to the quality of the course. And if you are looking for something specific, do additional research outside of Golf Advisor to make sure that the reviews in Golf Advisor are consistent with what you want.

Also, having the GPS screen on the golf course issue a warning about peeing in public is not something you will normally see on a quality resort course.

Great, but...

The golf course was in great condition and a nice layout and the weather was perfect, 94 degrees. The overall course layout isn't that difficult, but there are some holes that play tricky depending on the tees you play, like 5 with the trench stretching across the fairway close to your landing area.

The only complaint I have, and it's important, is the tee box on 17.

I play from the back tees, and from the Black tee box on 17 the fairway was half obscured by a large bush that was literally 10 yards in front of the tee box, not to mention there is a home 6-feet to the right of the tee box.

I have a hard time fading or slicing the ball, which this shot required. I usually either hit the ball straight or with a slight draw.

The management needs to pay more attention to all the tee boxes, even the black tees for the few of us who still play them. I was barely able to snake my drive past it and keep it in the fairway. I was lucky enough to par the hole, but it shouldn't be this hard just to get off the tee.

If you only hook the ball, you would have absolutely no shot on the 17th black tee.

But otherwise, the course was a nice layout and in good condition.
