Fairways and greens need some help

Positives: The staff were friendly and made every one in our group feel welcome. Pro shop also accommodated one of our players so he could play after his spot was sold on GN. When we arrived we couldn't use the practice green because it was being cut, but the practice areas seemed adequate. Negatives: The course layout is very tight, especially the back 9. The fairways on the front 9 were terrible. I felt like I was hitting off 2nd cut rough in most fairways. The fairways were slightly better on the back 9. Almost all the greens had major amounts of divots on them. I had to fix at least 2-3 divots each time I made a putt. The pace of play was okay for us, but there were a high number of walkers which could slow play for others. I paid $26 for a 7am weekday tee time which I felt was fair considering the condition of the course.

Great Course

When this course first opened it was one of my favorites in the Southside area of Hampton Roads. After a while course conditions declined, and for the cost, wasn't really worth playing. In recent years the course's conditions have approved, and it's a great course to play for the average to above average golfer. The greens are in excellent condition and the fairways are on the edge of being in great condition. The rough is very difficult compared to other courses in the area, but I embrace the challenge of staying in fairways. The only downside to playing this course was the pace of play. It almost took 5 hours to play my round, but it was Memorial Day weekend, so I wouldn't read too much into the slow pace of play on a typical "in season" weekend. Overall, if your up for a challenging course, in great condition, give this course a try.

Average course

Average course, short yardage. Usually well maintained, but rather pricey in season.
