South Padre Island Golf Club - 18 Holes Course
Played On 06/01/2015Scenic links course with lots of variety
we got a great deal on golfnow and I guess opening day of snapper season kept some locals off the course, because it was quiet out there. Hardly saw any other golfers on a Monday afternoon. Te gentleman in the pro shop was super nice, and we were very pleased with the quality of the course/value.
Kingwood Cove Golf Club
Played On 03/28/2015Decent 'value' course for North Houston residents
First off, dont make the drive here from Houston as there are much better options that are also affordable. However, if you are in the area give it a shot. In my few times there, I have found pace of play to be slow, lots of hackers, too many people booked at one time, slow/poor customer service. The course is in ok condition, it plays long and has a few challenging holes but nothing spectacular. Some of Houston's muni courses are just as good if not better.
Heron Lakes Golf Course
Played On 03/18/2015Nice little executive course, great pace of play
I gave it 4 stars not to compare it to other larger, full par 72 courses, but 4 stars for what it is. A short (par 68) local banger that you can get through in 2 hours or so. Pace of play has never been an issue, conditions are ok (although the greens are always a bit long), staff is ok but dont go out of their way. What makes this course for me is the layout, several challenging holes with lots of par 3's and 4's so its great to practice irons. Dont expect a lot for amenities, come prepared and youll enjoy the course.
Brock Park Municipal Golf Course
Played On 02/09/2015Good muni for the money
Nice course with a fun layout near the northeast corner of Beltway 8, kind of in the middle of nowhere. The pros are the fun layout, conditions of the greens, lots of matured old trees, and peaceful setting. Cons are that the facilities in general need better up keeping (ballwashers broken/missing, rough cart paths, etc. The pace of play tends to be a bit on the slow side, too. But, for the value its a good course to play if it's nearby.
Heritage Oaks Golf Course
Played On 02/07/2015Great service, peaceful setting
Beautiful course with some really challenging holes. Lots of water made for some strategic club decisions, and the track was laid out well. Pace a bit slow, but folks were very friendly and considerate of my wife and I. Greens and fairways in good, not great condition. Any slight flaw in the course was forgotten quickly because of the excellent service and the general scenery of the beautiful, matured course. Rates looked reasonable, but if you can find a hot deal its an excellent value.
Pine Crest Golf Club
Played On 01/19/2015Fun course, great location
I wouldnt go out of the way for this course, but if you live nearby its certainly a must play if you can find a good deal on a tee time. Can be a bit noisy, and the course can get pretty crowded on nice days. In general the course is 'good', but nothing about it really stands out as 'great'
Tour 18 Houston
Played On 01/05/2015Great course, excellent conditions and peaceful setting
I have had the privilege to play some of Houston's better public/private courses, and for a public course I think this is the best course in Houston and competes with some private tracks. Each hole is spaced out so you dont see a lot of other golf courses, fairways are nearly as nice as some muni's greens I have played, greens are nice but unforgiving, and the setting is peaceful and beautiful. Fun playing famous holes and reading the history. Try and find a good deal, but if you cant cough up the dough for this bucket list course.
