Good Course

As is true at many Florida courses in June, Stoneybrook just underwent aerification on their greens, making putting a bit challenging. The course layout is very good, and we played from the blue tees which played at 6,600 yards. You can find trouble if hit in the wrong directions but get rewarded for playing to the proper sides of the fairways. Midday rains came into our round which totally changed the scoring pace for the worse. Overall, a very good course that you can score well if you play to the proper areas.

Course has improved a lot since I last played 2 years ago

The course is in good shape. There have been good improvements with bunker changes and making the course just more playable. I played with 2 members, and they were very friendly and gave good advice on a few holes. Green speeds were average - not fast, not slow. The rangers and entire staff were extremely friendly and made me feel welcome to this course. I will definitely play here again.

Playable course, great day

Was looking for a course that both my wife and I could play. For me, par 67 at 5900 yards, The course was in very good condition. Greens so flat they looked like AstroTurf. Green speeds today were a bit slower, and you had to read the breaks correctly. Course has some trouble areas, but you had to really miss your shot to find it. Enjoyed the pace and spending time with my wife. All in all, great day at a new course.

Wife and I enjoyed the day

Staff was excellent and super friendly. Our tee time was on schedule. There were a few holes we had to wait about 15 minutes for the groups in front of us - it took us almost 4 hours to play 18; sign in carts suggested our round should take 3 hours or less, so slow play was encountered. Gave me more quality time with my wife waiting for our next shots. Fairways and greens were in good shape. Despite slower play, friendly executive style course good for family and spouse play.

After Hurricane Ian, this course was in good condition

I played in a foursome, and we found the course to be in good condition - there were still a few wet spots, but that could have been from the heavy rains the night before instead of Ian. The greens are not in growing season and are showing some wear, but still very playable. The greens are exceptionally large so getting to the green in regulation was a little easier, and if you could 2-putt, you could score well. I played the green tees which were 6,017 yards - I am a 9.6 handicap and shot an exceptionally good round for me of 77. Weather was perfect. Give it a shot!

Challenging if playing the Blue tees

The weather was near perfect for the first 14 holes and then dark clouds and a light rain made it nearly impossible to track ball flights for the final 4 holes. I played the blue tees (6,700 yards) and the course does play long. Most challenging was two of the par 3's that played 225 and 230 yards, one over water and one to carry a large sand bunker. Unfortunately, we were stuck behind a foursome that did not play ready golf and backed up the course a little bit. They stopped at the turn, but we jumped ahead of them which really opened up our pace. Greens were fair and you had to read the subtle breaks properly. Good track and I would play again. Finally, the cost to play in January continues to jump, and this year was no exception - expect to pay $25-$30 more than last year to play any course in the area.

Nice course

I had a 1:14 tee time, but due to a member-member event that day, tee times were delayed almost 30 minutes. I was worried that I would not get the round in before sunset. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see the pace of play got us around the course in 4 hours. The greens were faster than most in the area (stimp meter posted at course was 10.5) but rolled true, and there were subtle breaks to read to get the ball home. I played blue tees at almost 6,600 yards and found the course very playable - my handicap index was a 9.9 and I shot 79, so I had a great day. I did find myself in many fairway bunkers, but I was able to get out of them reasonably well, so no problem with the bunkers on this course. I will definitely play this course again in the future.

NIce new course

Played on a nice day from Red tees (6,478 yards). The course is in good condition. Greens are true - not too fast and not too slow. Some holes are similar with wrap-around fairways around a body of water, but distance is not too far. Course was using gas powered golf csrts. The clubhouse is nearing completion (I think it will be done in March 2022). Driving range balls were included with golf fees which was a nice amenity. I'm a 10 index and shot 80. The course is fairly wide open and not many trees - mostly have to deal with water and sand. I liked the course and will play it again!

Different tee boxes changes the challenge

First impression - minor disease attacked practice putting surface, but no issues with this on any of the holes on the course. Playing in January, the fairways were thin and a few bare spots; hopefully overseeding will improve this. They were installing sod on hole 18 after the tee boxes (eliminating the large waste area) which will be a nice improvement. The course is not overly hard nor overly easy - wayward shots left or right can bring the palmetto pines into play and block your next shots. Greens were average speed and fair. I played Blue tees and my playing partner played green tees, a whopping 1,000 yard difference for 18, but appropriate yardages for skill levels. Enjoyed the day and really the only negative was the thin fairways.

Nice Course

I was pleasantly surprised to see a Golfnow tee time available to play this course - it is hard to play this semi-private course and only a few tee times open to the public. I booked a later afternoon tee time - 1:46 pm. I arrived early and was told that I was moved to a later tee time, but since I was a single player I should check with the starter. The starter was fantastic and was able to match me up with a group of 3 going off at 1:30 pm. Two of the three players were members (Brett and Tony) and they were great hosts for our round. All the driving range balls you want to hit are included in the cost. The putting greens were slower than most - looks like it had been a while since they had been cut, but the greens did roll true. The course was immaculately maintained. The course had alligators, snakes, deer and hawks. The groups in front of us were a bit slow but we finished just before sunset, playing in 4 hours and 20 minutes. By far, the members who I played with kept me laughing and really made this one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf I have played in south Florida.

Playable course, great day

Playing in the early afternoon in December is way easier than playing in January! As such, our pace of play was excellent. My wife and I started as a twosome, and we were going at a brisk pace until hole #4. Another twosome was behind us and we paired up to a foursome. We finished the round in 3 hours and 40 minutes. The course was in good shape. The fairways are wide and open, and the greens are forgiving and good putts are rewarded. I am a 10.7 index and played the Blue tees at 6,658 yards and shot 81, so even playing that distance was forgiving. My wife played the red tees (4,786 yards), and she played the best round of her life. It was nice that the different tee boxes provides fair compensation for handicaps of all levels. The staff was wonderful and truly made this just a spectacular day of golf for us.

Quirky course

Always a risk playing on a Saturday afternoon, and the gentlemen in front of us did not understand pace of play and turned in a 5+ hour round, even after one of the rangers talked to them to speed up or jump ahead. First time playing this course - it is a short course with a lot of quirky holes, especially the South course, so target golf and iron play needed most of the day. As others have mentioned, wet areas on the course when no rain has been around for 2 weeks suggests they are overwatering or have water management concerns on course. Quite possible I may have enjoyed this round more if I didn't have to wait 15 minutes for every single shot. Nonetheless, my overall impression is that there are better courses to play in the area.

Morning league backed up tee times and course pace

Had a tee time and when I showed up, there were more than 6 groups waiting to play. When I asked the starter why the backup, I was told the men's morning league had more playing than planned. After nearly a half hour past our tee time, we finally went off. Unfortunately, pace of play by men's league was horribly slow. This greatly distracted from the experience of playing a well-reviewed course.

Horribly Run Golf Course

Our 12:45 tee time was delayed by 15 minutes on a perfect weather day. Tee times spaced 8 minutes apart. Starter Jesus was rude when trying to start groups at the tee boxes. Pace of play front 9 was 2 hours 20 minutes; made turn and surprisingly there were 4 groups either playing or waiting to play hole #10. Called Chris at pro shop and he said he would send ranger out. Never saw a ranger. After 2 more hours to play up to hole 14, called Chris in pro shop again. He said again he would send out ranger - again, never saw one. Round took 4 hours and 55 minutes. Always waiting to hit - never could enjoy the round. Heed the reviews that mention slow play and be ready to wait all day at this course. The couple we played with mentioned this was their 3rd time playing this year and every time their tee time was delayed by at least 15 minutes. Constructive criticism: space tee times 10 minutes apart instead of being a golf factory money machine, or actually have rangers monitor and maintain proper course pace. Also, the carts have GPS for the course to see where the problems exist - they must not be monitoring. And be ready for a sales pitch on several holes to buy properties as the GPS system displays homes for sale on your left or right side of the hole you are playing. TRUST ME - PLAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Playable course, great day

My buddy and i chose to play the Blue tees at 6,658 yards. A little wind in our face on the first hole, but the yardage played appropriate to our skill level. The greens were fast but true. Landing areas are generous. The weather was perfect and scoring pace was low. Staff was friendly and the 2 men we were paired with were very nice. If you are a single and concerned about riding in a cart with someone else, they do have cart clear dividers to keep you separated - a nice option that many other courses do not have.
It cost a bit to play this course, but I enjoyed the round tremendously and would recommend it to others.

Would play again

First time playing the course. It rained in the morning making the greens receptive. The Starter was awesome and gave us all the pertinent information that came in handy for a couple of the more difficult holes. Like others have noted, there is water on the course but it really takes a bad shot to find the water. Some par 4s are shorter and other longer, giving a good mix of opportunities. We played the round in under 4 hours - caught up to the crowd on hole 15, otherwise we would have played in 3-1/2 hours. All in all, a good course that I would definitely play again.

I played the blue tees at nearly 6,600 yards. That was the right yardage for me. The course has some tighter areas but is playable. You have to pay attention to the water on the course, but only for errant shots. The pace of play was ok - took a little less than 4-1/2 hours to play.

Excellent Course

From the time you pull up to the bag drop to the time you walk off of your last hole, the entire staff was friendly and welcoming. Rangers often made rounds to keep pace of play reasonable. The greens are in great condition as is the rest of the course. There are 3 9's at University Park - I played 1-9 and 10-18. I played the White/Platinum Tees at 6100 yards, and with the cooler temps and 10-15 mph winds, this yardage was plenty challenging. I am from the midwest and needed to take 1 more club than I usually do back home.
You can feel the professionalism that this course/staff put forward to make your round enjoyable. The course is maintained very well and signage and cart paths are clear to follow. This was one of the best courses I have played in the last 3 months. I liked it so much that I am playing again tomorrow!

Friday, slow day

Teed off at 12:10 and finished at 4:55. Cart said we were 5 minutes ahead of schedule. P:uzzling that a round of 4:45 finished early. I know it was a beautiful day after Thanksgiving, but no ranger on the course passed us. Clearly 2 groups in front of us have not played golf before and backed up the whole course. Despite that, the course was in good condition and played well. Just waiting 15-20 minutes between every shot was very hard to get into any rhythm, detracting from the experience of playing this course.

Solid course

The course was in good shape. Played the blue tees which felt like a mistake - many blue tee boxes were almost back at the tips, probably played closer to 6,900 yards. A bit of wind in your face on first 2 holes made for a challenging start. Greens were not too fast (would have preferred faster greens) and you had to read the breaks properly. I played with a grandfather and his 16 year old grandson who also played the blue tees - he is pretty much already a scratch golfer - it was fun to watch him play.and hit nearly every green near the pin. In all, a great day for golf!
