Cathedral Canyon Golf Club
Played On 05/08/2019Got what I paid for
I paid $22 for a Golf Now hot deal and got my money’s worth. That said, the 1st and 10th holds are essentially out of play and are both par 5 holes that have been converted into par 3s. And there was no mention or warning online or by the pro in the shop upon check in. The layout is okay, there is a lot of water and a few memorable holes. But the overall conditioning was sub-standard. One of the greens was completely sanded. The cart paths are falling apart, the on-course bathrooms are closed and signage between holes is lacking. Even the parking lot had the feel of a ghost town upon arrival. The website photos show a golf course in its glory days, but after playing it, those days seem long ago. If you’re looking for rock bottom prices for 18 holes in Palm Springs then this is the place for you. But for twice the price, you can surely find something that offers a much greater golfing experience. Again, you get what you pay for. Buyer beware.
Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa - Pete Dye Resort Course
Played On 05/07/2019a must play in Palm Springs
The Pete Dye Course at Mission Hills is a terrific golf course. It’s easily one of my favourites in the valley. It’s a fabulous layout with a great mix of holes. It was in mint condition when I played it. The staff was great and got me out much earlier than my allotted tee time. This course is on my list of places to play every time I visit Palm Springs.
Desert Dunes Golf Course
Played On 05/04/2019Great layout, needs some TLC
I recall playing Desert Dunes 15 or 20 years ago when it was a hidden gem in the Valley. So I was excited to go back and see it again. It’s hard to be critical when paying $25 for a weekend morning tee time. But it was sad to see the state of the facility compared to what I remembered. The greens and tee boxes were okay, but the rest of the course has not been kept up. And the clubhouse and range are barely serviceable. The bunkers are overgrown and have little sand in them. It feels like a small investment could return a magnificent layout to its former standards. But it’s not there right now. Oh, and the wind howled which is not unusual there. There is value to be had playing Desert Dunes, but temper your expectations if you do.
PGA WEST Pete Dye Dunes Course
Played On 05/13/2015Good fun, great value
Had played the Mountain Course last year and really enjoyed it and this year wanted to try the Dunes Course. Glad I did. Lots of room off the tee, but the challenge lies in small, contoured, elevated greens guarded by plenty of bunkering. While the course works its way through housing developments, it doesn't feel like it. Great views of the surrounding mountains added to the experience. I would highly recommend either of the La Quinta courses for a fun golf experience. I can't wait to get back.
PGA WEST Greg Norman Course

Got a great GolfNow rate and decided to try the Norman course. Enjoyed it thoroughly. A good test of golf. Have to be accurate off the tee or face some severely deep fairway bunkers that will surely cost you strokes. The greens were a little patchy in places. The afternoon wind gusted for a few holes which added to the challenge. But that's golf! Overall a fun experience and good value for the money.
