Wil-Mar Golf Club
Played On 03/13/2021Needs Work
Normally the greens are the best part of this course but today they were absolutely covered in spotty crabgrass which made every putt bumpy and get knocked off line. Some tee boxes were completely bare and dirt. Range has you hitting off mats currently but the balls are just old beaten up, rock hard, terrible balls.
Course is slightly going downhill. Maybe because it’s due to be sold for housing development at the end of the season.
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University
Played On 02/06/2021Almost Perfect
First time playing Lonnie Poole. The course has a beautiful clubhouse and really nice practice area. They only have mats on the range which is a bit disappointing.
Course layout is fantastic. Every hole is something different and the views of the Raleigh skyline is amazing. Only complaint about the course is the greens are very slow right now. Once spring comes along and they get a bit faster, it’ll be perfect.
Our group played from the red tees which is around 6500 yards. Nice combination of yardages on the holes. Better bring your A game because this course is tough, especially in the winter time!
Overall, fantastic course in the area that will be even better once spring comes along. Highly recommended.
Thank you so much for the 4 star review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon for a 5 star visit! Thanks for choosing Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University.

Wil Mar is one of my favorite courses in the area. I love the layout of the course. It’s not overly long and difficult but fun for all levels of golfers. The greens are in fantastic shape and pretty fast, even with all the rain and the cold weather. The course was cart path only and very very wet in areas but we’ve had a ton of rain lately.
For the money, this is my favorite course in the Raleigh area.
Hello, we want to hear more about your experience with us! We look forward to seeing you again soon at Wil-Mar Golf Club!
Wil-Mar Golf Club
Played On 08/24/2020Course is in Great Shape
First time playing at Wil-Mar and mentioned it to the guy checking me in...gave me a free course book breaking down each hole. Very cool gift and super helpful and informative.
Fairways and greens were in phenomenal shape. Greens rolled very true and had a great speed to them. Some of the tee boxes needed a little TLC and the bunkers could be a bit better but Covid affects that some.
Overall, fantastic course that lets you use a variety of clubs...doesn’t have to be a driver off every tee thoroughly enjoy that. I’ll definitely be coming back here!
Lochmere Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2020Good Course Layout
Good course, not overly long. Tight tree lined fairways with swift creek running throughout. Course was aerated recently and very sandy on the greens but they marked down tee time prices to reflect that. Good mix of variety on the holes and dog legs.
Only main complaint is the course has a major drainage issue. Don’t play if it’s rained within the last 2 days!
The Neuse Golf Club
Played On 07/02/2020One of the best courses around
Played at The Neuse for the first time and it was just amazing. Looked at tee times the night before playing and saw a Hot Deal for just $14!!
The front 9 played a lot easier to me but the magic is on the back 9. Every hole seems scenic and offers different challenges. They force you to use multiple clubs off the tee. It’s not a super long course but it has a lot of doglegs where you can’t just blast it down there.
Only complaint I had was the greens were very sandy and a bit slow which I know is common for this time of year but I think they’ll come in very nicely soon.
Overall, The Neuse is an absolute must play. Great deal on price, great layout, great course.
Excellent! Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible first time playing our course and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing The Neuse Golf Club.
Raleigh Golf Association
Played On 05/15/2020Decent Course
RGA is known to the locals as an “easy, laid back” place. It’s not a long course and not particularly hard either. The back 9 is slightly more challenging than the front 9. My main issue with the course is the “rough” is basically just dirt and rocks. It’s either fairway, or hard deadpan dirt and rocks. If they could grow up the rough around the edges it would be a lot better. The greens are also full of ball marks where nobody repairs them but not much you can do there.
Overall, a fun place to play when you want to shoot a low score and get some confidence in your game. Great track for beginners and new players.

Played On 12/28/2020Sunset Hills
Course: straightforward and easy. Not a lot of difficult holes or demanding shots. Wide fairways and not penalizing rough. Greens were extremely small, a bit shaggy, and slow. Tee boxes were ok, a lot of them were barren and some are built right on top of other holes.
Amenities: staff was extremely friendly, driving range was grass and not too bad, didn’t see putting green but didn’t look very hard.
Overall: easy course that’s good for beginners. Back 9 is a bit more scenic and enjoyable. Very cheap rates so good value for the money.

I know it’s fall golf and leaves are inevitable but there’s an insane amount of leaves in the fairways and on the greens. Very easy to lose a ball even when hit down the center of the fairway. Took 10 minutes to clear leaves out of your line for putting because the greens were covered in leaves and sticks. The course was in great shape other than that and the greens rolled true. Just need to get someone with a blower out there.
Farmstead Golf Links
Played On 06/18/2020Good Challenging Course
Played after it had rained for 3 straight days so the course was pretty wet but can’t complain about it. Fairways and greens were in terrific shape other than it just being wet. Took almost 5 hours to play though which is a bit long. The par 6 was a fun hole, definitely made you think about how to attack it. Overall, well worth the visit if you’re in the Myrtle Beach area
Riverwood Golf Club - Deer Run/Riverview Course
Played On 05/31/2020Good, Tough Course
Riverwood is a 27 hole course that offers some good challenges. Tough, tight fairways with difficult and fast greens means it’ll be a good day. It’s not overly tough if you play from the correct tee box for your handicap though. I enjoy how it forces you to hit the ball both directions and use almost every club in the bag.
Some of the tee boxes when I played were in bad need of some work but the fairways were very good and the greens solid.
The pin placement on the greens was incredibly tough when I played. They were always sitting on ledges or knolls which made it a good putting challenge.
Overall, a great course and great value. Definitely one of my favorites.
