Blue at University of Illinois Golf Course
Played On 10/07/2022Better than I expected
I have not played this course before partly because of the so-so ratings. I don't see what the fuss is about though. The course was in good shape and well-manicured. The greens were a bit small but that is not uncommon in the Midwest, and I think the price is a little high. My biggest issue was finding my ball with the fall leaves on the ground. I would play again.

Its not that long but these days neither am I. The course as always was in good condition. It did get a little slow late in the front nine but improved in the back nine. Still no water on the course or anyone selling it.

Played On 09/05/2021Weekend pace of play
This is a nice course which is why it is busy; especially on weekends or holidays. Why is it anyone with 3 clubs in a bag think they should drink and play golf. One twosome in front had a guy hit 6 balls off a tee until he was happy with the result. It was wet from rain so it was cart paty only which slowed it down further. By the 14th I had enough and as I made my way back to the parking lot I passed 6 or 7 foursomes all backed up on the last 4 holes.
Ironhorse Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2021Extremely slow
I guess that Monday was officially a holiday so the price on Golf Now was not correct. It was very busy with a lot of once a year hackers so it was very slow. Close to three hours for the front nine. No water available on the course and no beverage cart. Since it was 90 degrees, made it hard to go 18 holes.
Eagle Creek Golf Course
Played On 06/23/2021A challenge for beginners
This course has a lot of trees and doglegs. Be prepared to come up with some strategy instead of reacing for the driver all the time. The greens are a little small and there are bare spots in some of the fairways but pretty decent for a course in the country. No drinking water to be found anywhere. This may be a covid aftereffect but its hard to do 18 with what you carry in your bag.
Moweaqua Golf Course
Played On 06/21/2021Nice for beginners
It is a nice short course in very good shape for a small town. I got stuck behind some hacking ladies and they didnt think to let me play through till the 16th tee. Just a hole ahead of them was another pair that was taking its time. They could use a ranger and some water. No water on the course anywhere and no cart coming around. But still given my level of play it was pretty nice and cheaper than the Decatur Munis.

Played On 08/11/2020Pretty nice course.
Always interesting to play here. No one is coming around with water or anything. Also this time an oddity; I guess I hit a greenskeeper on a mower with a drive that went left and I didnt see him or where the ball landed. It was at the end of the drive but he made sure to sit there to let me know I hit him but I would think its an occupational hazard.

The course is in good condition but with Covid there is no water on the course and I never saw anyone come around with any.
Grand Oaks Golf Club
Played On 07/08/2020Nice place
This place is in much better condition than I remember it from years ago. The tee boxes and fairways are nice the greens are a little sparse. The sand does need work though.
Outstanding! Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Grand Oaks Golf Club.
Meadowbrook Park Golf Course
Played On 07/02/2020Good for practice
In the case of this course you need to manage your expectations. For the money and the pace of play this is a good place to just get in a round. Bring water.

The course is pretty straightforward with no sand and little water in play. I purchased the hot rate and didnt know it was the walking rate so they charged me for a cart when I arrived. It wasnt really worth that much considering the 40 mile drive. But if you fear sand this place is for you!

Played On 08/09/2015Ever hear of a mower?
I played this course about 18 months ago when I was just learning the game again. At that time my complaint was they had not mowed the fairways. So I give it another hot deal shot and I get there and they say they have a tournament on the back nine in a bit so I can do the front 9 twice. Its not too busy so I take off, cant ever find my ball because the fairways are not mowed. You could be standing on it and not know it. A local pair of guys start in front of me on the 3d hole and I am waiting for then when not looking for my lost ball.
One nice thing, that far out and near the bay, it was cooler than in DFW area. The greens were ok on most holes and soft to hold a shot. Too bad the locals decide they dont need to wait or fix ball marks. They were very pockmarked.

This course acts like they are something special. They only allow you to book 2 or 4 players on their website and they rarely offer a special. A sign at the course states 'no pull carts.' When I arrived and the group I was originally paired with didnt show they insisted I play with another group rather than by myself. The clubhouse and carts are nice but the fairways were hard as a rock and the greens did not roll true and were splochy. Given the recent rains, I didnt think it should look like this with almost no real grass. It is also very short. Given I paid $15 it was fine, but one dollar more would be too much.
Southern Oaks Golf Club
Played On 04/11/2015Excellent Condition
I have only played here twice now but both were great times. My only regret is that I let the group I was put with talk me into playing from the champion tees. I just dont have the distance for that. It is just easier to hit good shots when there is real grass even if it takes me 3 shots to make the par 4s.
At least you tried something new and now you know which tees you prefer to play from next time you come back!
Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
Played On 05/17/2014Pace, what pace
This course is close to home and I have used the driving range a few times and have played the East Course. Today I tried the West course. It is challenging but I gave up after Number 6. The wait was unacceptable. We were the third group on the second hole. The second. By the time we arrived at 6, we were the fourth group waiting. This is just unacceptable for any course. I dont think Ill be back.
Timberview Golf Club
Played On 8/18/2013Fairways are pretty burnt and barren
I did get a very hot deal, about $12 for a Sunday afternoon but the course is in pretty poor shape from tee to green. The greens are not too bad but they are very small. The other issue I had is the course is not very interesting, there are no bunkers and almost no water hazards. The holes are all pretty straight away with not a dog leg to be found. If you are looking for a place to practice all of your shots (other than sand) it is not bad and at the price I got, about the same as at a driving range.
Awesome! We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Grand Oaks Golf Club.
