Should be renamed “Quagmire Links”

A nice walking course, but if you can’t walk, be aware that this course drains very poorly and is usually cart-paths-only. All year long there are spots in some fairways where a ball will plug. (Maddeningly, even if rain is certain, the sprinklers still will be working overtime.) As you might expect, MANY of the traps are better described as water hazards than sand traps, and it should be no surprise that place of play is usually quite slow.
Possibly the most frustrating aspect of these conditions is that city-owned Yankee Trace has no mortgage, and as much play as they want, but they choose to spend their millions on clubhouse expansion rather than the actual golf course. As a golfing resident of Centerville, it’s easy to feel our business is taken for granted.

Always satisfies

Yankee Trace may not be the most interesting layout, but at a time when many courses are not able to sufficiently maintain course conditions, Yankee excels. Last year was the highest rate of play yet, and the course is in great condition. From the blue trees, the course is all the challenge I can handle. The clubhouse facilities are excellent, and the prices for food and drinks is reasonable. All in all, it's easy to recommend Yankee to friends.

Terrific Layout

Apparently a victim of the economy, this once spectacular course is suffering a bit from lack of care. ($$). That said, the layout is as fine as you are likely to see in southern Ohio, and that makes it a pleasure to play. I would not hesitate to recommend it, even if it is not immaculate. (Few courses are.) It certainly doesn't disappoint.

Response from on 05/01/2017:
Hi, Daniel.Thank you for reviewing the course. We appreciate the 4-stars and are interested in learning what we can do to earn a 5- stars next time. We are working hard to get the course ready for the 2017 season and are making dramatic improvements every day. We will pass on your feedback about the conditions to the team in charge. We also see you rated the pace of play and value to be less than ideal, so we will work on that too. We are glad to hear you found the course to be an enjoyable challenge and hope you can give us another chance to show you a 5-star round. Thank you for playing Shaker Run Golf Club.
