good bang for the buck

played twilight and had a good time. lots of variety, back 9 definitely more challenging. one hole - 13 is goofy AF as its a 90 degree dogleg with a fairway that goes off a cliff. greens bumpy. course goes thru a vineyard.

Fun course if you are willing to pay

After reading others' reviews of #9, I was excited to play it. Course was very wet, and greens were marked up a lot. Every green complex was a challenge, and almost every hole was unique and pretty.

The trouble is that when paying 200+ dollars, I expect course conditions to be immaculate and they were not. bunkers weren't raked, and there were many instances of casual water. This is the 2nd time in a year Pinehurst has disappointed in this regard. I was glad to check the course off my list, but honestly it isn't worth the money to play.

Fun course. Greens are the challenge

Fun golf course, and a brute when the wind is up. Greens are tough, especially when you are approaching from wrong side of fairway. You can score if your putter gets hot. Par 5s are the best feature -six of em!!!

brilliant

Yes it's only 9 holes, but well worth your time to play again and again. The places is beautiful and the conditions are superb. There's challenge, two tough par 3s, a driveable par 4, and two great par 5s. I played 27 holes off different tees each time and loved it.

Great - but those greens!

Great layout, friendly staff, and a course that you need to play more than once to score on. Sadly, some greens were in bad shape. Which is too bad, because they had subtleties that really would be a delight in good conditions. Oh well - hope they can bring the greens back after summers over.

Tough From the tips

Played the tips - 6850 yds, 140 slope. Many long par 4s that will give your long irons a go. Greens are smooth but tricky.

You need to play this course once before you even think about scoring well.

The Back 9 was much more challenging than the front - 15 and 16 will be tough to figure out the first time around.

Course was in great shape and hole 13 was amazing.

Great bang for the buck

7 bucks for 9 holes? Yes please. Republic is a fun track that takes about 1.5 hours to play. The conditions aren't great, as the greens are in rough shape, and the grass is patchy in places.

But there's excellent routing underneath the scruffy exterior, and the greens are SMALL. The last is a plateau par 3 that finishes just under the clubhouse.

I really enjoyed my round, and if I ever find myself in Great Falls again, I'll come back.

Entertaining Experiece

At first I thought this round would be terrible. I was called to the tee by the attendant/starter 20 minutes before my tee time, cutting my practice time short. I then waited for 20 minutes while other groups teed off. I told the staff about this and they were very responsive as to why I was upset. Probably a bad idea to have the attendants double as starters, but that's what they do there.

We played from the tips - which gave some added length to some already long 4s. The front nine is somewhat gentle, and the fun really begins on the 12th hole. There's a lot of variety, and opportunity to score. The last few holes are very challenging.

The course could be maintained better - there were a few greens with patchy grass, but everything rolled fairly fast and true. The only negative about the back nine is that a few holes were right next to a highway - kind of noisy.

Overall Falcons Fire is a good challenge. I'd certainly play here again.

A Must Play

Brilliant course. Firm turf, a variety of shots needed, nothing tricked up. Greens not that receptive yet but give them time. Par 5s and Par 3s are excellent. #9 is one long par-4 if the wind is up. Driver/3 wood didn't even sniff the green.

It's expensive to play, but completely worth it. Great facilities. Breakfast sandwich was delicious.

Great Layout but...

Tee to green, this course is wonderful. Very challenging, with a tremendous variety of holes. The par 3's are really cool, especially #16.

The staff is incredibly friendly and interacting with them was a breeze. Pace of play was slow, which was due more to the skill level of golfers in front of us. A ranger came by frequently to assist.

HOWEVER - the greens are terrible. Bumpy, inconsistent and not true - to the point where you just don't know whether a perfectly struck 4 footer will go in.

The sand traps are awful. There's at least 4 different types of sand on the course. Few traps were raked, some had visible gravel. I played out of footprints, muddy sand and a fried egg lie in a fairway bunker.

The tee shot on 18 is borderline crazy, as a huge pine tree blocks the center of the fairway. You can either aim towards a bunker with fine loose sand on the left(leaving you with a bad lie and no shot to the green), or the woods on the right.

This is not a walking course, as there are huge distances between some holes.

For me - if a course has bad greens - I won't play it because there's no point if your good shots to the green and solidly struck putts aren't rewarded.

I'll come back when the greens and traps are in much better shape - I don't really know when that will be though.

Response from on 09/01/2017:
Thank you for the honest review. We appreciate your patience as the course is currently transitioning into the cooler fall months. Many of the greens have been affected by the hotter summer months and will be back to normal in a few weeks. Thank you so much for coming out and we hope to see you again in a few weeks.

Bad day

Played just 9 holes. Was greeted in friendly manner on arrival, checked in and made my way to the Starter. He would not let me go to 1st tee until he saw I had a ball mark repair tool. Not a good feeling to have the Starter be so mistrustful - but maybe he was mandated to be so by mgmt.

Once on the course, all was nice except for the greens. TERRIBLE. Covered with ball marks and sand. Putting wasn't fun- one green even had the hole cut in the center of a 3 foot circle of sand

At the 9th hole, our group was held up by a maintenance worker mowing the green (10AM on Friday morning?) The worker had no clue how to operate the mower and actually tore a big patch of grass off the green. Unbelievable.

I shared my experience with the pro shop, but they didn't seem apologetic. $35 for 9 holes deserves better. Overall not a fun experience, and not sure I will return.
