Maderas Golf Club
Played On 08/04/2017First time
We played last Friday for the first time. The course is in great condition. I thought the course was tough with many forced carries. The setting is beautiful. I would recommend playing. The $105 we paid to play in the afternoon seems like a fair price. No GPS in carts.
Aviara Golf Club
Played On 08/03/2017Great par 3s
On my previous visits my group was amazed at the course conditions. It seemed that every blade of grass was perfect. Fast forward to last week: Even though the layout is still great, we were all surprised that the course is no longer immaculately maintained. Not sure its is worth the $170 we paid. Great par 3s!
Summitpointe Golf Course
Played On 06/04/2017First visit to Summitpointe
My first visit to Summitpointe was disappointing. While the layout is challenging with lots of narrow fairways, the condition of the fairways was sad. The fairways vary from 80% - 100% dead grass. Most of the bunkers had little sand in them. The greens were in very good condition. The driving range is short (no woods allowed).
While the course has lots of potential, the very poor conditions will keep me from returning.
Rancho Solano Golf Course
Played On 04/23/2017I'll be back
I had not played here for 20+ years because there are a lot of courses closer to home. I forgot what a nice course this is. Conditions were excellent. Great sand in bunkers.
I look forward to playing here again.
Mare Island Golf Club
Played On 04/22/2017Poor course conditions
My group had taken Mare Island out of our rotation for a year due to the poor course conditions. We played again recently and, unfortunately, the management has done nothing to improve the conditions of the course. I love the course layout, so it was very sad to see that the owners of this course are not doing much besides watering and mowing.
Specific issues:
No sand in bunkers. They are just dirt. A number of bunkers are full of weeds. Dead spots on some greens. No divot mix was available to fill in divots.
I found out that the course was purchased by some developers in the past few years who want to put a hotel next to the course. It seems like the owners won't put any money into the course until they can build a hotel.
We play a lot of golf around the bay area and Mare Island is definitely in the worst condition of any course I've seen. It's sad because it could be a great course if it was well maintained.
