Some interesting holes, but not a must play

I played here for the first time this weekend and was actually disappointed. We paid full price and the course was more difficult and expected with high rough, thick lies and lots of woods. Lots of bugs too. The overall condition of the course wasn't terrible, but not great either. The back 9 is much more open.

Through golfnow, we got a $19 round so went to give it another shot and for that price, it was a great deal. Also knew what to expect and it was a very enjoyable round.

Both days, basically had the course all to ourselves which is awesome for pace of play. Not much in way of pro shop, just a smelly little club house with small bathroom, one cooler for drinks and a coffee pot.

2 was an interesting, blind, up hill dog leg right. 7 is a near 90 degree hole which leaves you with decision to lay up or try to hit it over the trees and cut the dog leg. 9 had a very isolated tee box hitting on to an open fairway. Along with a couple short par 3s, I would definitely say those were memorable holes.

I wouldn't recommend for the full price, but would entertain the idea of going back at a discount.

A Fun Round

I really liked this course and for $42 on a weekend morning this was an absolute steal. Most of the water hazards shown on the scorecard and the signage at tee boxes were more of like marshes then actual streams/rivers, which is pretty typical anywhere.

I do not profess to be a good golfer by any standards and don't really go much by yard markers, but if they had some stakes on the a fairways instead of spray painted on the card path, my buddy that I was with would've complained a lot less.

Pace of play was fine, only had to wait a couple of times, if anything we held up the group behind us slightly.

Easy drive from Philadelphia and a great spot to meet people who live in the suburbs/Lehigh Valley.

A Fine Option for a quick round of golf

Surprised no one has reviewed this yet.

A nice little course in Easton, PA that I play pretty often based solely on closeness. No tee times required, just show up and play so that's a plus for getting together a last minute round.

Not the most pristine place around, but it more than adequate. 12 is a memorable short par 3 and also very like 8 a slight dog leg into an open fairway out of tee box in the woods (16 plays similar). That is what I like in a course - to have a couple memorable ones.

Greens fees are good all day so if you're a walker you could play as many rounds as you'd like. They charge for the cart each time and when added up if only playing one round on a weekend it comes to $40. Which I think is okay, not great.

Unless the advanced golfer is really looking to tear up a course, probably not the best place for them. Would be way too easy. I routinely shoot in the 115-120, and I hit 80% of the fairways, multiple bogeys and a couple pars to end with a 104.

That's why I like it for someone who doesn't hit a long tee shot.

Loved it All!

I have not a single complaint about this golf course. It was it very nice condition, perfect for any skill level with open fairways and water that make it a challenge for anyone. We got paired with another twosome who played the course regularly and said they still found some of the holes to be difficult.

Oh and the price. What a great value. $35 on a Friday, are you serious? It's not much more for a weekend tee time. Been recommending it to friends since I've played here, can't wait to go back.

A Great Round of Golf at the Shore

Played on their "Super Wednesday," of whatever they call it so expected to wait when you're paying $55 for an $80 course. Most people who would play this I would imagine be on vacation so who really cares if it takes a little longer?

This was as nice a place as can be, but what takes it down a star is that they expect a packed course each Wednesday. Why wouldn't they move their course maintenance schedule up a date? On that day, with a crowded course, we came across a jet dryer, a lawn mower and sprinkler systems. Just bugged me that we had to deal with those when they should've been prepared.

Two par 3s that require you to hit your tee shot over massive ponds. Fun! Good range of holes too.

We stopped in to the club house for a drink too and it was very nice. Their menu looked good even though we did not eat. The beer prices on the course are great though!

Rip Off

What people say is true, this course is pretty awful. I suppose if you like dragonflies, it may be a fun time. Yes, I get its a Philadelphia public course so I wasn't expecting the course to be top notch but rivers in the middle of the fairway, mud and massive holes everywhere. I can take some of it and expected it too, but to charge $41 is absolutely shameful.

The Byrne public course in Torresdale has a similar feel, but those greens are nice and not even a fraction of the fairway messes FDR has.

I'll give it two stars for location, but feel I was robbed of my $41.

One of my favorites

This course is a nice little gem and probably one of (if not) my overall favorite. Nice array of holes that keep things interesting, but also nothing too daunting for a beginner. A couple short par 3s help that.

The back 9 has some very memorable holes - a blind up hill tee shot on 10, downhill dog leg right on 11. 12 is a 90% turn and a strong driver may be able to driver the dog leg. 13 is a long flat par 5 then back to a short par 3.

It's just great, everything about it. The price, the halfway house, even some interesting water hazards.

This isn't Pebble Beach or Augusta, but it is a nicely maintained course which is perfect for everyone.

The place to play in Philadelphia

If you live in the city, this is the place to go if you don't mind the drive. Yes it's a city course, so not the nicest course you'll even play, but the greens are very well maintained.

River runs through the center of the course and seems like you play the same hole twice or two occasions, but its a nice hazard that for someone who doesn't drive the ball far makes it a nice and makeable challenge to drive it over.

Two (minor) grips are the cart paths are almost non-existent and there are three par 3s in a row. Good for practice, but you don't really see that anywhere else other than a Par 3 course.

Like this place a lot.

Just Okay

There wasn't anything special about this course. It was very well maintained and a little pond that made for a nice hole, but for the weekend price not something I really need to go back to. Maybe a little later in the day.

It was pretty wide open and I had a fun round, but the holes seemed a little close together and like mentioned above, nothing that really grabs your attention.

Probably in the minority here, because I know people who play it regularly and enjoy it.

I hear the restaurant on site is very good as well, but never eaten there.

Worth playing...

Pace of play states 4:30 hours and we finished in about 5, got held up on back 9 a few times but no real issue with that.

I was a little disappointed in the quality of the course. I went in thinking it would be pristine but some of the fairways were a little beat up (not terrible). The greens were awesome and even though most have lots of elevation changes, none all that sudden so as long as you get on the right level, putting didn't prove too difficult.

The scenery is outstanding but makes for a challenging time. This was only my 9th round ever so don't let inexperience deter you. I had a blast and played maybe by best round ever (by performance not score). I don't drive the ball far so unless I hooked or sliced it way out of play I didn't have much trouble finding balls. The other two people I played with would have long drives and would end up losing balls because of all the hills as they couldn't see where it went after teeing off. Blind shots are fine but after awhile they were pretty frustrated because there was so many of them.

Not sure I would go back because it was so physically taxing - the hills made it hard to drive a cart to your ball at times which led to hike up a large incline. Perhaps in the early spring, I'd consider going. The $35 after 2:00 is an absolute steal. I played the day before elsewhere and paid $60 for a pretty ho-hum course. This is anything but and 100% worth checking out regardless of skill level.

My recommendation is to play a round and judge for yourself. It might not be for everyone but for us it led to an enjoyable and memorable afternoon.

Long Round, Nothing Special

Not a bad experience by any means but really don't think this course was anything special. The pace of play was over 5 hours which was a tad long in my opinion (we had to wait before teeing off at every hole on the second 9).

Some of the greens were neat but it lacked any real memorable holes. If you don't keep it on the fairway the grass is real thick which makes things difficult. There are a couple short par 3s which are always fun if you hit the tee shot right. It probably should've been priced $10-$15 less than the $57 we paid though.

Not bad, just nothing that would make me long to go back here.

Walked

Nice Place, Slow Pace

Went to play a quick 9 after work, figured I'd walk it alone for $16.

First hole was nice length for starting hole. Then a single behind me in a cart played it fast and I let him past only to be 4 groups deep by the third hole par 3. I paired up with the other single and a twosome for the rest of the 7 holes. It was one of the first nice evenings of the season, so I don't blame the course and we did get all 9 on the front in. Yes it was slow, but I accomplished what I wanted to (albeit playing rather poorly) after work and it was a nice course too boot.

Pretty open and had a couple memorable holes on the front 9. Has is a long hole with a lake/pond near the green. It was a fun hole to play.

Want to come back here at some point with a foursome and really play the entire course and enjoy the round, because I feel like I would. Weekend rates also seem reasonable but to walk 9 for $16 on a weeknight evening is a steal!
