Good Golf Course

Cowan Creek GC has nice, wide fairways and great greens. Has a good mix of par 5, 4, and 3s. Sand traps and fairway bunkers are well maintained. Friendly staff. A huge negative is lack of snack, food, and drink amenities. Uses GolfNow for online tee time booking. Not the best choice for their online bookings! All three Sun City courses would be much more efficient with EZLinks, which is less of a hassle and much more user-friendly.

Good Place To Play Near Austin

Since pairing with the other course at Avery Ranch, the Teravista course has improved. It is currently in good condition, especially the fairways. You get a good lie if you hit the fairway. The greens are in great shape, with a couple of exceptions that had some places that needed attention. Noticed a big improvement in the bunkers/sand traps from previous years. Have always liked Teravista’s putting green and also the practice range, which are by far the best around.

Course has potential but needs work

Highland Lakes GC could be a very nice course if some $$ was put into some improvements. For example, the grass on the greens is not cut close enough thereby putting drag on your putts and preventing a true read and tough roll for the golf ball. The greens are also mostly postage stamp in size and could be enhanced by enlarging many of them. The fairways are in pretty good shape and we liked the lies we got in them. The tee boxes were also pretty good. The overall layout of the course is nice, with a premium on shot placement off the tee box. There are great views of the lake although the water level is still way down. The pro shop is operating out of a makeshift building and does not have much in the way of amenities such as food or golf equipment. Hopefully this situation is just temporary. The golf carts are nice enough--gasoline powered carts that are new. This golf course could offer much more if there were dollars to put into improving the greens. With the population booming in the Austin and Hill Country area, there is a great need for some quality golf courses to enjoy. Until we see some improvements in the greens, which are the most important part of any golf course, we are reluctant to recommend this particular course. On the other hand, if you are just looking for a place to whack some balls around then this may be the place for you.

Disappointing golf outing!

Teravista course can be a fun track when in top condition. When the wind is up there is no hiding from it and course plays more difficult. Wide open course. The greens are usually in very good condition and roll true. Sand traps and fairway bunkers are quite a different story. For years now the traps/bunkers have been seriously neglected. There is little sand left in them--just mostly hard-pack. Grounds crew does not rake them routinely, if ever, and the fiberous liners are showing through what little sand is left. A puzzle for sure as to why the grounds crew and management will not tend to their sand. Until this is taken care of, I am reluctant to recommend this course, as a major course feature is a negative and no longer a plus. Not sure what company (Eagle Golf??) owns this course, but some big-time work on the traps/bunkers needs to be done and someone needs to get to it!

Quiet location in Burnet, TX and good value for the price.

Rated the course as Moderate in difficulty. However, reading the greens takes a few rounds in order to score well--one round there just won't do it for good putting. Greens are very nice and of good size but very tricky to read. Fairways could use a good layer of fresh dirt in some places. Sand traps and fairway bunkers are very well maintained and have some of the best sand you can find anywhere in Texas! DS is a pretty course to play, and you feel like you are in a peaceful place out in the country. Carts are speedy but no GPS, so bring your own range finder. This is a laid-back golf course where the locals are friendly, and the price is certainly good .

A nice course with a good layout.

Cowan Creek is one of the trilogy of courses at Sun City in Georgetown, Tx. It is the newest course of three and is a pleasure to play. Most of the holes on this course have wide fairways and encourage you to let 'r rip! Greens are well-maintained and of good size with putts rolling true. In my opinion, there is not an "unfair" green on the course. The fairway bunkers and sand traps near the greens are kept in great shape. Be aware that the pace of play can be a bit slow on the weekend. My oldest son can drive the heck out of the ball and absolutely loves this course. Note that there is no food nor drink service for the non-member players. Carts are good but not equipped with GPS so bring your own range finder. Good practice range and putting green for warmup before the round, and the range balls are included with the green fee. Also, golf tees are free and plentiful so help yourself to some tees in the pro shop. Pro shop is very small and not geared for serious merchandise sales. Overall, thIs is a good value for your money.

This is a fun little "boutique" course.

Point Venture is a fun track to play. It is a short, nine hole course at just slightly over 6K yds from the back tees. Layout has lots of angles/doglegs to test your skill with ball placement off your tee shot. There is a short practice range and a small putting green for warm-up. There is a small clubhouse that includes a pretty good snack bar with outside seating. The golf carts have seen better days but still have plenty of life in them and get you around okay. The greens are well kept but are small in size; this is actually a good fit for the short yardage of the course. Nestled in a residential area very close to an arm of Lake Travis, you can still see some great views even though the lake level is way down from normal. Lots of wildlife out there, and the quiet is almost deafening! The course does not have sand traps nor bunkers, but their absence was not a negative and you hardly notice this. The course is located a good distance out in the Texas Hill Country, so be prepared to drive a while to get there. The green fee is very reasonable; a real steal at a cheap price. So if you do not mind a drive to get there, Point Venture is worth a try for a rather unique golfing experience.

Very challenging layout, especially on the front nine holes. Beautiful setting in the suburbs not far from Austin.

Played this course just after the greens had been "sanded", so not a true indicator of how this course normally looks and plays. Sand on the greens definitely detracted from the action on the greens and made the putts much slower. It appears that the winter months have affected the greens and fairways of this course to a much greater extent than other courses I have played in this area. When the greens are in good shape and the dormant grass begins to come out with warmer weather, this course should be back to it's normal great condition. Lengthy holes are the norm here, so be prepared with your long game. Offers very different looks and challenges on each hole, so you will not be bored when playing this course. Has creeks/ravines that enhance the challenges on several holes. Also plenty of trees. Two thumbs up regarding the bunkers/sand traps ; they are very well-maintained. Plenty of wildlife to see throughout the a typical round--deer, chapparals, and squirrels. If you can get a good price through GolfNow, do this. Otherwise you will pay a rather stout fee to play here as compared to other area courses. Note that the carts are not equipped with GPS, which is an oddity for a couse with this kind of fee scale. Has a nice practice range. However, the putting greens are a glaring weakness; could use a complete make-over of the putting greens. Overall, when the course is in top condition it is worth it to go and play it.

A pretty layout but very challenging. Got a great price on a Saturday afternoon via GolfNow.

Legacy Hills is one of the 3 courses at Sun City Georgetown. I have played it several times and always find it to be a very challenging round of golf. The fairways are not yet coming out of the winter dormancy but are close with warm temps now upon us in this part of the state. The greens are in surprisingly good condition for winter. There is a premium on keeping your drive off the tee in good position. Trees line most fairways and that can mean trouble for errant drives. The maintenance crew has definitely improved the care and condition of the sand traps and fairway bunkers. Many have pure white beach-quality sand and are raked nicely. Had lots of fun playing this course on a very beautiful Central Texas day. The membership of Sun City are a welcoming group of seniors who are friendly and do not mind sharing their courses with the public on the weekends. Legacy Hills is a great value. I recommend this course to anyone looking for a fun round of golf.

beautiful Hill Country location; very challenging layout.

course is in pretty good shape for late January. the layout is very challenging. most holes require a lengthy second shot into the green--this can be tough on windy/breezy days. hole #9 is most unusual, not from layout standpoint but because of a "Danger" sign in a clump of oak trees about 75 yds out and to the left side of fairway. reason is to warn players of a bee habitat that should not be disturbed. have never seen such a warning before on any hole on any golf course. although bees are good things out in the country, they have no place so close to a fairway and green on a golf course. bees can be easily riled when disturebed. would be easy to do so with them located in this habitat so very close to fairway and green. player safety dicates that these bees should either be removed to the country or eradicated. not sure what the management of Falconhead is thinking on this! sounds ludicrous the way it currently is. greens are of average size, grass pretty good shape on them. traps are well-maintained. however, several holes have elongated monster traps and bunkers that seem to be way overboard. makes approach shots that much more difficult. got my tee time on a Hot Deal through GolfNow--great price and would play here again despite the course difficulty. have always met friendly staff and other players whom I have been paired with. realize this golf course was once a PGA designed gem. those days are long gone, so there should be some re-thinking done on how best to serve the average club member and daily fee golfer. a little thought and some minor tweaking would go along way toward creating an outstanding golf experience. some changes should be made. thanks for reading.

Great value and good layout.

Teravista golf club offers a great value for the money. Plus it is a good layout with a blend of some easy and some very challenging holes. It has a good practice range and one of the best putting greens that I have seen. In fact, the condition of the greens is one of the best features of this course. The greenskeeper does a terrific job of keeping the greens is pristine condition. I will state that if you are looking for large greens, you will not find them at this course. The greens are average size. There is a premium for accurate shots on this golf course. While not much in the way of trees, there are multiple ponds (a huge one on hole #12) that will easily attract an errant approach shot. There are plenty of sand traps and fairway bunkers--some of these need work as the fiber liners below the sand are showing in some of them. Currently there is a great deal of residential development going on around the course. While this does not interfere with the play, it is a reminder that Teravista is a relatively new course and will someday be a really top of the line golf club. Overall I really like this golf course. Be aware that you will struggle on a windy day, as currently there are not many trees to block the wind. This should improve as the surrounding residential development takes hold. Oh, yes--almost forgot to mention that Teravista recently obtained a brand new fleet of Club Car golf carts, each equipped with a ball washer and club head cleaner plus a state-of-the art GPS system on board. This GPS has the latest technology with very cool graphics. You can leave your individuall range finders at home with this baby on board! Thanks, and happy golfing!

Very tough layout for most golfers. Always a challenge to get pars.

Have played Crystal Falls GC many times over the years. Presents a great challenge for most golfers due to the sloping fairways and very fast greens. Some improvements have been made on several holes by re-routing the cart paths and cutting some timber for better layup to hit into the greens. More improvements are needed, however, to make this course a truly unique and satisfying golfing experience. The course is gradually getting improvements which can only help to make the playing better. Nestled in the suburbs of Leander, this hidden course offers privacy and great views of the surrounding hill country. Wild game (as in turkeys, deer, etc.) are seen quite often crossing the fairways. The creeks and rock ledges carved out over many years give the course a real wilderness feel, even though it is located in an upscale development area that is currently booming. A great value, but take your "A" game with you to this course. It is a tough layout that will punish an errant drive; lots of sloping fairways and trees to "get close to nature". Greens are almost always kept in very good condition; very fast greens, with one or two almost "unreasonable". It would be very cool if the course would add a second 18 holes to augment what is becoming a real Texas Hill Country gem.
