Ak Chin is my favorite course in the Phoenix area and I've played all of the "best". Great sightlines, consistent greens, enough difficulty built in to challenge any level of golfer. Well worth the hike to Maricopa!
I'm a big fan of courses that reward good shots and punish bad ones. Ak Chin gives you big landing areas off the tee and while the course is heavily bunkered, just check the cart GPS to see where to miss when going at the green. This place is a textbook on how to design a course.

This may be the worst golf course in the whole valley. Poorly maintained, slow play is the norm, and the people who run it are jerks.
While trying to putt on the 18th hole, I had a groundskeeper drive by with an air blower and blow grass shavings and dirt all over me and into my eyes. When I went to complain they tried to buy me off with a free round instead of disciplining the worker.
You couldn't pay me to play this course again!

I've played all 27 holes and it's the same thing over and over. Lay-up off the tee, long iron into green. Par 3's are long irons over water. Even the par 5's are layups off the tee unless you can carry 330. Huge greenside bunkers with no sand in the bottom. After about 5 or 6 holes, you wonder why they don't just put windmills on the greens...
For a place that wants top dollar in high season, the staff sure lets you know that you're not welcome. Smart aleck comments right off the bat from the gang of bag boys who know everything about everything and aren't afraid to let tell you.
Definitely a course that doesn't care about repeat business.
