Nice Views, Decent Track

If it weren’t for the palm trees, mountains and a couple of ocean views this would be on par with an average muni. Greens were decent but doesn’t seem like they roll them. I actually played here on Sunday 10/22/23 and again on Tuesday 10/24/23. We played it because it was near a resort where several of us were staying for an event. The other courses were further away and more expensive still. Golf in Puerto Vallarta is generally way over priced. This course ranges from $160 down to $70. If it were at home in the Austin area where I live it would have to be $50 or less to stay competitive.
It is a pretty thanks to the natural landscape and it’s an interesting course due to a challenging layout and hidden water. For me green condition makes or breaks a course and for a resort course, these greens were not even close to my expectations. Again, they were below standard of the municipal course I play back home. That said. Because everything in PV is overpriced, this is probably the best bang for the buck. Even though it leaves you wanting. Also, if you have a non-playing spouse or friend who wants to tag along, they won’t allow it. They wanted a green fee for my wife to ride with me. She never plays and rides with me at many courses. Occasionally we have to pay have a cart fee but never a green fee like this course required.
If you do end up going, the cart girls make a great margarita, and it helps you not care as much about paying above average prices for an average or slightly below average playing experience.

Great As Always

Always love playing Avery. Sometimes the price point is too high and sometimes it is a little slow but I love the course. Had a great round today. Just over 4 hours. Recovering from a week-long hard freeze so it was cart path only and not quite in its usual condition, but considering our recent weather it’s plenty good. If you’re looking for a good golf outing and have never played here, do yourself a favor and book a round. You won’t be disappointed.

Too Slow To Be Worth It

It has been several years since I played this course. I like the course quite a bit but the pace of play was so slow I stopped playing it years ago. I thought I would give it another chance today. I teed off at 1:44 PM thinking at worst case it would be getting dark as I finished up (gets dark around 6pm)
Unfortunately, in four hours we (a 3-some) were only able to complete 14 holes. At every hole we had to wait every bit of 15 minutes before we started playing... sometimes more. As we drove in we passed nine additional groups on the four holes between us in the clubhouse. This is completely unacceptable. The Pro shop is obviously stacking for too many players, too close together. There was also no Marshall on the course all day. It was quite a frustrating experience to say the least. It may be several more years before I try this course again, if ever. What a shame, it’s a beautiful course with a great layout but apparently the reputation holds true that you need six hours to finish a round of golf here.

Great Hill Country Track

First time playing this Hill Country treat. Very much enjoyed the course. Lots of great holes and great scenery. There’s one or 3 that felt like it was sort of forced and a few other blind holes that made it tricky for a first timer. Now that I’ve gone through it I’ll definitely be back!

Beautiful Course, Terrible Customer Service

First things first. This course is beautiful. It's certainly in the top 5 I've played in terms of visuals. Not just surrounding beauty as you can get with mountain courses, but the course layout itself. It was also a very challenging course. Especially playing from the Gold box. If you don't have a 260+ drive in your bag, then bump up to silver.
Fairways are in really good condition. Greens are mostly in good condition but they are peppered with divots that neither previous players nor greens staff ever fixed. Tee boxes are in rough shape, but you can tell they are working on it. And they didn't really factor in. You can still find good footing and that's all that really matters.

The real disappointment was the first 30 minutes. I was playing as a single with a 3 group and had asked ahead of time if I could have my own cart due to COVID-19 concerns. I was told yes. When I arrived, the pro-shop echoed that and told me I could ride solo. From there I went to the starter where I encountered what has to be the rudest starter/marshall I've ever experienced. First, as I pulled up another cart was coming towards me the wrong direction, so I pulled off the side to let him by. He stopped and told me "get that cart back on the path". That was the starter. Then when I made my way to the range, I was first hitting some leftover balls before breaking into my bag and he promptly came over and told me I couldn't hit the extra balls and could only hit mine. He promptly scooped up all the leftovers. Finally, when I and the threesome I was paired with headed out to the first tee, he stopped us and told us that that the two of us in carts riding solo had to combine. I and the other golfer protested. We let him know we didn't know each other, didn't' come together, and had been told by the pro-shop we could ride together. We again protested and expressed concerns about COVID019. He said he didn't care and they didn't have enough carts to outfit all the golfers and that if we wanted to play we had to combine carts. We ultimately agreed, but it was an uncomfortable experience for a while. It was pretty shocking to have a starter at such a nice course treat us that way and to readily admit that cart availability was more important than human safety. That experience alone would give me pause about recommending this course to anyone else flying solo. But, because the course layout is so nice, it's still worth it. Just hope this track can upgrade their customer experience people.

Good course if you catch a hot deal

First time playing this track and I enjoyed it quite a bit. 3 greens are under construction and the rest of the greens weren’t in the greatest shape, but the course layout is really fair. It rewards great shots and offers some forgiveness for bad ones. It’s a short course, so I’d recommend dropping back a tee box from where you might play at longer courses. Over all it’s worth playing and you’ll enjoy it. Especially if you don’t have to pay full retail.

Great Bang For The Buck

If you don't live in Burnet TX (I don't) then it can be a bit of a drive to get out to Delaware, but the price point and course conditions make it worth the trip. This course offers a mix of challenging tight fairways and more forgiving broad ones as well. They are typically in decent shape at all times of the year. Being able to turn the ball both ways will definitely make a few holes more approachable, but it's not a required skill to put together a decent round. The best feature on this course are the greens. Most are large giving you a better chance at GIR,s than other courses in the area and they are all in great shape. Pace of play can range from 3 hrs to 5+ depending on the day. Delaware is accommodating to large groups, which is great if you're in one, but brutal if you get stuck behind one. I would suggest calling ahead of time to make sure you have a typical grouping in front of you if you're playing with time constraints. It's really the only draw back though and is easily avoided by doing a little homework before booking.

The bottom line is that if you live in central Texas you owe it to yourself to take a trip out to Delaware.

P.S. - make sure and have a cheeseburger while you're there. It just might be the best you ever had!
