The Quarry/Preserve at Bay Harbor Golf Club
Played On 10/02/2021Good views. Recently aerated and didn’t tell me or provide a discount. Fairways were nice. Definitely not worth the price considering the other options in the area.
The Ocean South at Pelican Hill Golf Club

The clubhouse is as Nice as anywhere you’ll ever go. The range was nice. Real grass to hit off of with a lot of targets. Ocean holes were pretty. The course conditions were fine. The price tag is not worth it. It’s a resort course so they get away with charging $250+. I didn’t see any caddies on the course but thought that was a thing here. Torrey pines is a much nicer alternative down the freeway a bit and it’s roughly the same price. I’d compare this course with Aviara in Carlsbad. One problem I did have is the bunkers had large rocks. At least the bunkers I had to hit out of.
Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 10/26/2018Great for the price
Definitely the best course I’ve ever played at for $28. I wouldn’t recommend playing here for over $50. The greens are in good shape and the sand was fine. The course is actually pretty difficult. I shot 84 from the green tees and I’m a 8.1 handicap. It’s pretty obvious to me that this used to be a nice country club and somewhere along the way management gave up on it. That being said it’s still a great test, just don’t expect a quick round or super green, manicured fairways and rough.
Steele Canyon Golf Club - Canyon/Ranch
Played On 09/07/2018Nice Course
I played the Ranch/Vineyard courses. Ranch was pretty easy considering what the slope says (134 from blue combos). The greens were soft and some had a lot of poorly repaired divot marks. The conditions are otherwise fairly nice and the rough is very playable as they don’t really grow it out. I paid around $50 on a GolfNow deal which seemed like a fair price. They use mats for the driving range which is unfortunate but they don’t have much extra space.
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa - Legends Course
Played On 05/15/2018Simply ok
I played the legends course for $50 in the afternoon on a Tuesday. First impression is they need signs directing you from the parking lot to the pro shop. It’s kind of a long walk to carry your clubs but I could have dropped them off as it turned out but there were no signs. It feels like more of a resort than a golf course because that’s exactly what it is. It also appears they have let the course get run over a little bit but overall it’s in fine condition. They were doing some repair work on the greens and blamed conditions on the weather. I wouldn’t pay more than $75 to play here. They’re definitely living off the reputation of the past.
Maderas Golf Club
Played On 05/14/2018Tough
Clubhouse and staff are as good as it gets in San Diego. Much better facility than Torrey Pines. The course is tough and greens are always fast. There isn’t much rough and you get a lot of roll in the fairways. The wind makes it even more challenging on the back nine. My favorite course in San Diego County and it’s not close.
Desert Willow Golf Course
Played On 03/27/2018Basically a Par 3
Leave your driver in the car. This course was definitely good for the $23 rate I paid. The greens were very hard and fast. Fairways were fine but you really only have 4 of them to deal with (3 if you can drive it far). Took 3hrs to play which was fine. Nice course to play if you want a quick, cheap round at a par 60 course.
