Not worth the time to play

Course in poor condition--fairways, greens, and especially bunkers--for the past 4 years. Summers are worse as there are more brown areas in fairways than there is grass. Fairways cut to 1st cut of rough height at other public courses, and rough can be extremely high and tough to hit out of many times during the year.

No real course maintenance done here.

Not worth the time or money to play this course.

Hello Golfer,
Thank you for your comments and your business! We have a new Super and are committed to greatly improving course conditions. The goose issue causing the dead spots has been resolved as we have purchased a bird dog.

Course in lousy shape

I don't know how others who have submitted a review of 3 Stars, or more, for RedGate come to that conclusion.
The fairways are way too long even when cut--it's like they mow the grass without blades on the mower. The rough hasn't been cut in quite some time.
Leaf removal is a joke notwithstanding the GM's comments in response to Reviews that they blow leaves several times a day. Hasn't ever happened.
He says that taking leaves off RedGate is "challenging". Well, the previous Superintendant and his crew had no problem getting all leaves off the course during the leaf removal season. Not so with the current administration as there are pockets of leaves on several holes, even in late December, where one can easily lose a ball.
The greens are bumpy at best and inconsistent from one day to the next, and hole locations are changed only weekly.
Most bunkers (sand traps) are totally unplayable as they have nothing but dirt and stones/rocks in there. Only 5 holes have had bunker renovation, with new sand, done during 2015--13 holes have not been worked on.
It's been 4 years of the same kind of course conditions--terrible.

Pace of play on weekends, and even some mid-mornings during the week, is at a "snails pace"--5 hrs.+ Too many people playing the "back tees" when they can't break 100.

Hello Golfer,
Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience here at Redgate. Our current conditions are not on par with in-season conditions as it is now winter but we have adjusted our prices accordingly. Thank you for your feedback and a Happy New Year to you!

Must Play course

Norbeck is always in outstanding condition, one of the best kept private courses in the state of Maryland. Greens are fast.
A very playable course, albeit a challenging course.

This course is in horrible condition

People who give this course 4 and 5 Stars must be playing a different course than RedGate.
The pace of play is 5 hrs on weekends. Any course marshal that shows up doesn't have a clue as to how to get slow players moving--and there are many, many slow players at RedGate.
The course conditions have been horrible for the past 4 years, which is when Billy Casper Golf started its lease of the course from the City of Rockville and the company now runs the course--actually they are running it into the ground--little if any maintenance on the course. The bunker renovation started in late May and ended in early June with only 5 bunkers done, and 4 others converted from sand to grass and the grass died from lack of watering. There are 13 bunkers still to be done--sometime in the future.
Grass in the fairways is spotty at best. Only course in the DC area I've seen that has more bare areas in the fairways than grass.
Greens are just awful. All have patches of crabgrass in them!!!! Nowhere else do you find that. And the greens are so slow, like putting on velcro.
People who pay $20 to play weekdays in the early a.m. would be better off going somewhere else and add some funds to the $20. Most of the County courses are in far, far better condition than RedGate.
The poor course conditions have been the same since Sept. 2012--just awful.
Go play somewhere else and you will get your money's worth, even if it's more than $20. The reason the fee is $20 early on weekdays is that Casper Golf is hurting for people to play RedGate as the knowledgeable golfers have seen the poor playing conditions there so they do not come back, even for $20.

Thank you for your feedback. Our goal is to treat every guest to a fun and enjoyable round here at Redgate GC. I was sorry to hear of your frustration relating to our course conditions. Our course conditions are a high priority. We will continue to dedicate both capital and labor in our agronomy department to enhance our guest’s experience. Please know that we have a new management team in place. I will certainly pass your feedback onto our Head Superintendent. I drove the course on Friday 11/20 and it is in very good condition. We hope to see you on the links of Redgate Golf Course again soon.

Kind Regards,
Billy Cullum

No bang for the buck!!

Redgate is vastly overpriced on the weekends for the condition it's in. Bunkers are mostly dirt and stones with little, if any, sand--same condition for the past 2+ years. Fairways ok, but grass is too long; and greens are fair, but very slow. Rough is atrocious--4 to 6 in. high by the weekend. Lucky to find your ball much less hit it out of there.
Course is NOT for beginners or golfers over a 20 handicap as it's very hilly, some water, many trees and lots of blind shots.
At best, the course condition is Fair.

Good morning! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are happy to report that a lot of the bunkers on the course have been redone and the lenght of the rough has been lowered. Hope to see back on the links again soon. Billy

Dear Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your recent visit to RedGate. The team takes all feedback very seriously and would like you to know your concerns are being addressed. We are pleased to let you know that work on the bunkers will start in May and you will begin to see a greatly improved playing surface. Also, with our new equipment and agronomic practices you will not see the rough at a length you experienced. Thank you again for your time and feedback. If there are any additional questions please let me know. Mike info@redgategolf.com
