Greens horrible, carts need work

I’ve been wanting to play Tour 18 for awhile but heard the greens were in bad shape. I figured what the heck and would try it because surely any place that charges $60-70/round can’t have greens that are that bad. They were absolutely awful. If there was grass, most was dirt/sand, the grass was bumpy and you didn’t get a true roll. It looked like there was some type of invasive species on the greens. Another grass or fungus, I’m not sure. Either way it was awful. I would say it cost each person in our group an average of 8 strokes per round because of how poor they were. We talked about just giving each other two putts once on the green to make it fair to everyone.

The carts also need work. We hopped on a cart and started driving to tee 1. All the sudden the cart started swerving left and right. We looked down and you could see the front wheels wobbling. We told the starter and he said a lot of the carts need work. He said instead of going to tee 2 go back and get a new one. So we went back and got a new one after number 1. We started to drive off and that’s when I realized the steering wheel was upside down and we were still swerving left and right. I didn’t want to turn back around because I didn’t want to slow play. But we definitely felt unsafe driving/riding in it. I thought we were going to hit a tree.

Now for the good. The course could be absolutely awesome!! The idea behind it is amazing. For the most part the tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. Being able to play all those famous holes is amazing. But because the greens were in such poor shape, and the carts were unsafe, I won’t be going back. I wish they would invest the money to get this course to what it should be. I told friends if I had the cash and time I’d try to buy it and get it fixed. That’s how good of a course this could be.

Pricey course with perfect views

I played this course while on vacation in Breck this past week. I waited until twilight because it was $85 with a cart vs $125-135, plus I needed to rent clubs so it was going to be expensive. For my wife and me to rent play twilight and rent clubs it was about $260. The course was great. Super challenging. A lot of dog legs and blind shots, but then one par 4 that was reachable from the tee box so it tempts you to go for it. Greens were in amazing shape. Bent grass, so soft you sank in when you walked on them and could easily stop your shot on the green, but were very quick putting. They were awesome! Fairways were soft, but a little patchy. I don't know if that's the normal or if they were working on it. Either way it was fun and challenging. If I lived in Breck, I would get a punch card and go back, but I can't afford $85-135/round regularly.

Great Value for Money

I was committed to playing golf today either by myself or with someone and for under $20 with a cart. Golf Now app was under $20 for a 1252 tee time. It was close to the house so that's a plus. Driving range closed, that's a minus. Course layout is through houses the entire time and sometimes you wonder where you go next but I got over that quick. I'm not going to say the greens were spectacular, but compared to most courses around here they were amazing. You could at least hit a shot and stop your ball on the green and putts were pretty true. Greens weren't covered in sand like most around here. Fairways were in good shape too. It rained this past week so it was cart path only. That kind of sucked because the cart had GPS yardage. It was an easier course but me me, around a 25 handicapper, it was perfect. Once the course dries up a little I will definitely be back. Especially for under $20. I feel like that was a steal.

Thank god a course with greens instead of yellows

I grew up playing Firewheel but it's been a good 10 years since I've played there. Especially the old course side. A friend got a coupon so I reviewed the course layout and it brought me back to my younger days. I forgot they redid the Lakes course and made it go across Brand. Great course layout. Course is tough, especially if you are just starting up again like I am. Course condition was pretty good. Fairways were nice and you could stop your ball on the greens with your second shot. Greens were slow for putting but I remember Firewheel always being like that. I can't remember if the old side has bent grass greens or not. I don't know if I would pay $40 to play the Lakes or Old course but I would pay $30. I'll get a golf now rate and definitely go back. One of the better courses I've played in the last few months.

You get what you pay for

I had never played Los Rios but heard great things about the course from growing up in the area. Went to play and it was the opposite of good. Fairways were decent. The first two or three holes had temporary greens that were sand and dead grass. It was awful. After about 5 holes the greens started getting a little better but still not great. Had a lot of sand and the fairways were blah. Tee boxes were bad. If the course was in better condition it would be pretty fun. You have to make good shots to shoot decent. Maybe after a couple months if rain I'll come back but only for $12 from Golf Now. Anything more seems ridiculous.

Thank you for visiting The Club at Los Rios. We appreciate your business, while we are working to make the improvements the course needs. Our two temporary greens on 1 and 2 should be up within the next few months, and we expect to see noticeable improvements around the rest of the course during that time.

If the "Yellows" become greens I might play again

I played this course because a friend be paid for me. If I paid any money to play this course I would have been upset. Most of the time I couldn't tell if I was in the fairway or the rough because it all looked the same. The greens were rough. Like I had a better chance chipping the ball to the hole than putting. It probably would have bounced fewer times. It seems like it would be a fun course but the fairways and greens were just trash. Especially for $30 or whatever my friend paid. Hopefully all this rain the last month has helped get the course in better shape. I will let my friend play again before I spend my money to play there.
