Ocala National at Golden Hills Country Club
Played On 03/24/2024Decent greens
Grabbed a cart and noticed it was filthy and asked did I get the right cart because I was worried if it could make it . Was told sarcastically we'll get someone to clean it and went to the 1st. tee at my 3pm tee time and found a threesome and no starter. Even tho they had the same tee time they refused to play with me because they had a bet going so they let me play though.Everything was cut nice but with the dead and fallen trees and grass in the deep bunkers made for a strange day. Tough course from the unlevel blue tees but the greens were large and decent to putt but it was obvious with the lack of animals and the pond scum it was not maintained very well.

Got right off and played in 3 1/2 hours even tho it was crowded. Everything was cut very good, tees weren't too level and had some bare areas and greens very fast an also had bare areas . Wind blew Spanish moss and leaves on the rough and fairways and made finding your ball alittle tough . Worth the $20 green fee to get out and practice but watch out for deep cavens and the pond on 11 in the middle of the fairway

Cart patches that are like mine fields, downed trees and limbs everywhere. Half the greens had areas that were bare and diseased and fairways mostly filled with dead crab grass. Tees were mostly crowned which made for wayward drives by golfers who don't play alot like me. Sure your saving money playing here but is the aggravation and high scores worth it?

Everything was cut fine but when I got golf cart 55 it had blown shocks and with the ruts and roots it was painful for my back.. Alot ot of the greens were bare and spotty and the holes seemed to be crowned like the tees .

Played On 06/27/2023Average conditions
Went right off and played 18 holes in 3 hours. Tees and fairways we're decent and greens had some bad spots usually on the outer parts but great when on the good parts. The rough was long and flowering but they were cutting it as I was playing.

I guess they found the keys to the mowers because I didn't didn't lose any balls in the fairway but it still took time to locate them. I doubt this course will ever be a 4 or 5 star course but the grounds crew were out there doing their best.

How can a company that is building more condos have no money to put into a golf course. Alot of tees were temporary but I saw nothing being down to the permanent ones . craters in the fairway ,rough and cart paths make for a. bone jarring ride. Weeds all over even on the greens. Maintenance sheds and bathrooms look run down and unsafe but I played in 3 hours and the carts were newer.

Airated greens, great staff, lots of sand but no water. Plenty of sea grass to catch errand shots but great lies in the fairways but all the holes kind of seemed the same.
Plantation on Crystal River - Lagoons Course
Played On 05/14/2022Good course
Played on a Saturday with no one in front of me, haven't played in 3 months because of an ankle injury. and teed from the gold tees which played like 500 yards less and did good considering I usually play from the silver tees but i'am 65 years old and avoided a lot of hazards. The tees, greens and fairways weren't pristine but very playable with very fast green. Thoughly enjoyed my round with 6 pars and an 86 so now I may start playing from the senior tees instead of trying to relive my younger years.

Nice staff, decent layout and good conditions make for a enjoyable afternoon. It's obvious they maintain the course as I witnessed sanded greens and working sprinklers. Bring bug spray this time of year because the nats will fly around your eyes and ears which makes it hard to concentrate.
Plantation on Crystal River - Lagoons Course
Played On 12/10/2021Decent
I haven't played this course in about 6 months since the rainy season so it was a lot dryer. Seemed to been mowed regularly but the greens had some Sandy bare spots. I can't complain too much for $15 and I had a wonderful female golfer as a playing partner.

Played On 10/27/2021Groomed
Fairways, tees and rough all outstanding, greens were bumpy and spotty with some kind of fungus but still fast. Played with Two very nice golfers and had a great time even tho I myself didn't play to great. Cart paths could be repaired some but it's gonna be tough for the snow birds to pay $90 with the condition of the greens and cart paths when they arrive soon.

Played On 09/24/2021Ok
Paid $13 and that's what it was worth, seemed to start off good but after 7 holes the conditions got worse. I don't mind getting in the rough but when there's broad leaf weeds mixed in with normal rough it hard to get the club though the ball. Staff was great and people I played were too but tees were patchy but I wasn't expecting much and wasn't disappointed.

Played On 04/28/2021Spotty
If you book with golf now don’t expect to tee off before your tee time even when you come early and the 1st. Tee is wide open. Most fairways are spotty and require you to move the ball to get a grassy lie which I hate to do. Some tees and greens are decent and others are spotty and could use some attention. Maybe the punching of the greens next week will help improving them. The course has a decent lay out except the the over abundance of water which seems to be exactly where my ball ends up.

It was nice to see workers out on the course for a change, greens, tees and fairways were top notch. It shows what a good grounds crew can do on a well designed course. Not as short as some reviews said when playing from the white tees and I think the yardages are measured as the crow flies with most of the greens higher then the fairways.. the fairways were wide which leads to a false sense of security and when you do miss them there’s usually a tree your behind that leads to a low flying 3 hybrid shot out of the rough.
Citrus Springs Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/13/2020Good layout
A different kind of golf course with a lot of elevation changes, reminds me of courses in the north east. A lot of dog leg lefts and hardly any water to speak of and seemed to be cut regularly. Nice big greens with very subtle breaks which make them a challenge to read but with plugs of crabgrass sprinkled around. The only other bad points would have to be the patchy tee boxes and the bone jarring cart paths and fairways but the carts with headlights was a first.

2nd. Time playing ( check spruce goose ) Greens and fringes much improved. Rough is high from not being cut so bring plenty of balls and fairways and tees are full of ruts and bare spots. Be careful because I twisted my ankle coming off a tee, I quit after not being able to locate the 12 tee. Needs plenty of maintenance because I can count on one hand how many times I’ve quit a round in 40 years of playing golf.

I showed up early for my tee time and was told the back nine was being airrated so it was closed. Told me just to play the front nine twice but to my dismay the front nine was probably airrated yesterday. So the greens were like putting on peg board with sand on them, I wish these courses would say something on their websites. The course itself was on the short side but almost every tee shot, fairway and approach shot had over hanging trees to deal with. The tees and fairways were spotty and needed a lot of water and seed, so I wouldn’t play there again till they do some maintenance but you get what you pay for.
