Best Muni in SD

Agree that anyone who writes a bad review of this place has no appreciation of good value. One can walk this championship golf course for under $30 and finish. Unheard of in a place like SD. Greens have been rolling great since the brief closing during C19. Totally disagree with the reviewer stating they r bumpy. I can afford to bring my kids to this place and get in an old school legit round of golf. Cottonwood used to be the Monday qualifier for The Buick which is now The Farmers. Not surpirsed college golf is being played here. Great to hear. The driver can be used on almost every par 4 if you want to as there are essentially no gimmicky holes. Would prefer a great course with average off course amenties to keep the price down all day every day. Thank you Cottonwood. Lucky to have you in SD.

The Wood

Championship golf course that is affordable. Done a great job on and around the greens as they roll nice and the rough around is cut low. Nice look. This not a luxury resort. The value is in the course, not the amentities. Its walkable as its reasonably flat , has shade trees, and it gets a breeze.. Been in SD a long time and deserves to stay. Support Cottonwood. Were lucky to have such a place.

Appreciate U CV Muni

Not a course for golf snobs. Excellent for the rest. $18.00 for 4 1/2 hrs of fun/tough golf. Great location of SD. Lift clean and place in the fairways but the greens are good to real good. Reasonably flat tee boxes. Yes they could probably make the tees and fairways much better and therefore triple the price but I appreciate them for not. Without courses like this the game will not even survive let alone grow. Had enough money left over for a large pizza for the family on the way home. Winning!!!

Championship Golf Course

Championship Golf Course - and, at times, you can play it for $20 if you walk. Incredible deal and it is a great walk if your healthy enough to do it. If you tee it up from the black tees and the normal afternoon breeze is in effect, after #1, your in for a war. #5 and #7 give you a break but the rest are really tough. #3 is a brutal par 4 and #8 one of the toughest legit par 5's around. The back nine is a little easier. The whole course is really nice. Huge cottonwood trees all over, essentially no houses, and the course is in the best shape in many years. Its not one of those places you will lose a bunch of balls if you do not play well either as there are not many hazards and no gimmicks. Straightforward classic golf course. This place has a lot of history. Hopefully still a lot of life left. Enjoy. Totally appreciate you Cottonwood GC.

Good question but probably 13. Dig how the hole looks from the tee box. Such a cool spot of the course. Peaceful. Maybe because its a birdie hole as well :). If you dont give up as no one should in golf, the scoring holes are 11 thru 15. This is right in the middle of this stretch.

Nice Morning

Let us go out early. Everyone was nice. Great design. There was little wind when we played so it was gettable. Looks as if it would be fun in the wind tho as the course appears to be built to handle that afternoon push that the wind turbines rely on. Looking forward to next time.

Cottonwoods Strong

This course probably has 500 old cottonwood trees so it lives up to its name. Old beautiful trees that were looking super healthy yesterday. Like an earlier reviewer said, if they could only get the range back, it would be real close to fully revived. I feel bad for what this course has had to endure over the last many years (water prices, competition from surrounding courses with more money, the declining of recreational golf, etc.) but they have hung in there no doubt. Only one of two courses left but Ivanhoe was always been the better track. The tee boxes are looking much much better and the fairways and greens remain in great shape. People forget this used to be the Monday qualifier course for the Buick Open back in the day (now the Farmers). Its much more of a championship course than essentially any of the older public tracks in SD. Essentially no houses on the course. Again, one gorgeous cottonwood tree after another line the fairways. Hoping so bad this course can stay around for years to come. They and golf deserve it. Thanks for doing what you can to keep a great golf course here in SD.

Paradise

10 stars if I could. The practice facility is top notch. A great mix of easy, kind of tough, and flat out hard holes. Incredible Bermuda grass greens. 80 degrees, uncrowded conditions, and, essentially, an immaculate golf course. Super appreciative of this great place. Best wishes for the rest of this season and beyond.

One of the Best in SD

Tough fun course. Always has been. Like many have stated, this course doesn't have a plethora of water to deal with but they are using what they have well as the fairways and greens still look good. The layout is a classic. One shouldn't miss this place if looking to play one of the tougher/funner courses in Dan Diego.

Good Fun

Played 36 the other day. This is a nice layout. These people know to take care of there course. Greens were superb, the bunkers have plenty of sand, fairways were fine, and even the rough was well kept . Challenging enough even for the claimed single digit handicapper IMO. Despite105 deg forecast, it didn't feel that hot. Staff was super friendly/accommodating. Great place to get away for the day (drive from San Diego was easy and scenic) or a couple days. There open every day in June and from Thurs - Sund thru August. We appreciate you stating open for the summer. Great golf for the price.

Still a great place

I cant believe all the poor reviews. What a shame. They must have had a tough day and are blaming the course as so many do. Ive been playing this course for over 20 years. Its still a great place to play. Yes one of the courses has closed but Ivanhoe remains open and remains one of the best true golf courses in SD (straight forward old fashioned golf). My son and I played yesterday and had a fantastic time. We showed up early with no tee time. The staff was great and got us out quickly. And yes it was a Saturday morning. The course was in great shape overall. Greens and fairways freshly mowed and playing true. The weather was outstanding. We were done within 4 hours or so and only paid $35 to walk. What a deal. Thank you Cottonwood for doing what you can to hang in there in these tough days for SD golf courses. Yes the old range in closed and they have a makeshift one on the old Monte Vista course but its still enough to warm up. The practice putting green and short game area remain fantastic and I even noticed new sand in the practice bunker. Overall, you folks have done a fantastic job in hanging in there and I absolutely commend you for your efforts. Again, cant believe people are telling others to stay away. I say the exact opposite....support Cottonwood Golf Club!! The place has a serious history in SD golf (Ivanhoe used to be the qualifying course for the Buick which is now The Farmers at Torrey Pines. They made the course the qualifying place because its a classic tree lined legitimate 72 hold championship course) and deserves to stay around and be supported. I guess if your a complete primadona and want perfect conditions all day every day for cheap, this place may not be for you. How, if your a true golfer who appreciates a good deal and a real course, you owe yourself a round at Cottonwood. Yes the afternoon wind can be tough but that just adds to the tradition of this course. I am in no way affiliated with Cottonwood and am merely a local resident who has appreciated this place for years. I can only hope my kids can appreciate this place in a way that I have and it stays around to enjoy. I will be crushed if it goes away and we will have lost a classic in SD and one of the best deals in the county. Perhaps a little more support for this great place will allow them to spice it up again a bit. Negativity breeds bad scores. Stay positive and support public golf!! You will shoot a better round for it.

I haven't played there in years. But in my opinion the comment written by vacuum 1969 is obviously from someone associated with Cottonwood Golf Club
