Nice layout but better courses within 45 minutes

Nice enough course, but even at the whites it was rather short for me. (Guess I should have moved back a little.)

Most of the reviews read like this is "the go to" course in the area, but I found the course to be rather "lame looking." Number 1 and 10 look identical. No "wow" type holes I found. The greens were in pretty bad shape too, very bumpy and slow.

Do not play without calling to make sure they are not hosting high school matches!

The assistant manager was nice and signed me in at 12 noon. He informed me that the high schoolers were teeing off at 1 PM but they would not be a problem for me. Well he was a tad wrong. I only completed 7 holes on the front nine (at one over by the way), before one of his assistants came up to me and asked me to actually skip the 8th and 9th holes and go straight to 10, to accommodate the high school kids.

I never had such a request, but I obliged. Problem is by the time I got to hole 10 it was packed with two foursomes of old guys like me.

By the time I got to number 13 I had been out three 3 hours (to play 9 holes.) I just left, couldn't take the waiting anymore knowing it would be dark before I even came close to finishing 18.

Was gonna ask for a 9 hole pass next time I came back but I don't wanna go back as "the Emerald" just ain't worth the $ nor the drive for me.

When you are around New Bern save yourself a lot of headaches and go play Harbour Pointe or Carolina Colours and even better go play the best course in a 100 mile radius of New Bern, The Beaufort Club in Beaufort NC!

Very nice layout, great money value!

As a resident of Havelock NC, Harbour Pointe has been on my bucket list for a while. It's out in the middle of nowhere but worth the drive.

I found the staff (well I saw one staff member, who cooked my hot dog, took my greens fees and was washing carts when I got done.) She was exceptionally nice to me and made sure I knew everything about the facility.

Many of the low reviews on here are kinda questionable in my mind. I found the course to be very enjoyable and challenging. Yeah the cart paths are pretty bad no doubt but I don't judge a course by cart paths. The fairways and greens were and traps in pretty darn good shape. I did find that I had to pretty much whack the ball as they were playing on the slow side.

The best part is the $20 fee after 1PM!

I will definitely return to Harbour Pointe and you should go too! Try it at least once, I really think you will find it worth the drive.

Finest course in a 75 mile radius bar none!

The Beaufort Club is far and above a nicer facility than anyone you will find, including most in Myrtle Beach!

Immaculate greens!!!! The best I have EVER played! The only problem I had with the place was the traps were horrendous at best, nothing but a collection for black sticky muck. Obviously I should have not been in any of them but I managed to get a close up look at three of them!

If you love a tight course go elsewhere, you can slice two fairways over and still make par no problem.

I love Beaufort Club! It is the GO TO course for anyone living or visiting the Outer Banks area !!! It's worth riding 18 without swinging a club just to see it!!!

You gotta go see AND play it!!

Not a a bad Air Force course, played better

Being an AF retiree I have played tons of military courses, some great, some not so much. This one is barely down the center. I drove down from Raleigh while the wife was on a business trip to try Seymour out.

I found the staff very very friendly, Ron checked me in and I got the feeling that he appreciated me driving down, he even gave me a logo ball on the house. He gave me some helpful hints about the course, which came in very handy.

I found the course to be fun and challenging, u have to hit the fairways here or u will be lucky to break 90 (coming from a 12 handicapper. I found the greens to be in good shape and roll fairly fast.

The course could use some work, I found a lot of bare fairway sandy patches. I found the white tees are a tad long for an old 64 year old like myself so I just moved down to the golds when I felt like it. They could use another set of tee boxes between the white and gold.

F 16's will be flying right over your head the entire round so get used to the sounds of freedom! I was really surprised that they had no drinking water in the coolers as it was 80 degrees the day I played, I asked about this and was told that management had not got around to filling the coolers yet.
I found it weird that the driving range is snack in the middle of the back 9 so u gotta walk or ride a ways to get to it.

Overall the course is fun and challenging but it's not overly scenic and has little aesthetics. The closing 18 green has a huge water tank right next to it which is about the strangest thing I have ever seen. Not a "go to" destination but if u are in the area check it out for yourself. More good here than bad.

A Gem Must Play!

If u are ever passing through between Knoxville TN and Chattanooga, u really need to stop in the small town of Athens, head west halfway to Decatur and follow the signs to White Oaks golf course.

This is a true hidden gem tucked away out in the middle of nowhere but is well worth the drive. The layout and raw country scenery are just awesome.

The staff is very friendly and the whole place has a genuine warm country feel to it. The course condition is very good, complete with sloping valleys and hillsides, with some very nice and fast greens.

It is very fun and very challenging as well. It is locally owned and operated. They treat u like family.

It's one of those courses that just make u sorry to leave.

U have to try it if u are passing through!

Not a bad muni at all

Golf courses (good and bad) are at a premium in the Athens TN area. I found this out while on a business trip here for a few days. Ridgewood is an adequate muni, it's fairly wide open, not much trouble here. I hit from the white tees and am a 9 handicapper/63 yrs old. First time out at an 85 I was happy.

The greens I found to be in very good condition, average speed. The fairways were in fairly good condition and will get better by mid April/May. I played in March.

The staff were congenial but not overly welcoming.

Watch out for hole #13, any straight drive off the whites of 220 or more will put u over a huge hill OB. U need to lay up with a 3/4 iron off the white tee or drive it from the blue tee. Then it's a 90 degree dogleg right into the green.

Hole #14 was one of the most ugly designed holes I've ever played, everything slopes to the left off the tee and it's kinda downright boring.

Hole# 15 normally plays as a par 5, but due to some recent flooding it was playing a short gap wedge par 3 the day I played it.

#16 is a gorgeous par 4 with a great view of the TN mountains behind the green

This course is fairly pretty, average in length, and is in fairly good condition and not difficult even the first time out. I recommend it if u are in Athens TN, as there is not much competition around.
