Glen Eagle Golf Club - Blue/Yellow
Played On 09/22/2019Great Tournament Hosts
I've played Glen Eagle many times over the years but mostly in tournaments - both those which I've organized for my company and those hosted by others. From a tournament point of view the club is extremely accommodating - look after all the details, very friendly, deal with any issues and the banquet room and staff are great too. For the Toronto area it's a decent value and the course is always in good shape when I've played it. The layout provides interesting and challenging holes with no Mickey Mouse holes. Unfortunately due to COVID I was not able to run our tournament this year but hope to return in the future.
RiverEdge Golf Club
Played On 05/27/2018Better Hit it Straight
Pretty course, well maintained, not too long but better hit it straight as trouble lurks not far off of many of the fairways.
Cardinal 18 Golf Club
Played On 07/26/2016Tight Fairways, High Rough or Water Beyond
As mentioned by other reviews, local knowledge is key on this course. Accuracy is also a must - if you stray off the mostly small landing areas you'll find yourself (or more likely not find yourself) in the tall grass or water. Course was in ok condition, a little dry, but greens mostly good. Tee boxes were not though. Guy who checked us in was very chatty, he thinks he's funnier than he is, and some comments might be taken the wrong way, I think he was trying to be friendly/funny so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Stagnant water on 16 holes makes golf a challenge, but the bigger challenge was avoiding the mosquitoes and deer flies that love the environment. All in all, I've played at worse places and paid more, but I don't think I'll play this one again.
Annandale Golf and Country Club
Played On 07/12/2016Hard and I don't mean difficult
Usually try this course every couple years or so to see if my memory is wrong or if they've made improvements. No and no are the answers. While the cost was good through Golf Now, I don't think I'll be back for another couple years. I'm not sure they water this course. While 300 yard drives with all the roll are great for the ego, the playability of the course is not. More than a couple holes that seem squeezed in too, making them a bit too clownsmouthish.
Wolf Run Golf Club
Played On 06/06/2016Rained Out! Back for Back 9 Later!
I hadn't played this course in 5 years but made my way back because of a great GolfNow booking. The course was in much better condition than I recalled it to be. It's got some interesting and enjoyable holes. Biggest challenge for some may be there doesn't seem to be many flat lies on the course! Unfortunately we were chased off the course by a thunderstorm after 8 holes but had already decided we'd be back anyway.
Summerlea Golf Course
Played On 05/06/2016Friendly Country Course
The staff here are very friendly, the clubhouse was nice, good wings, ballgame on the big screen. The course is short, so you'd think it would be good for beginners, but it is also very hilly, which makes it difficult. The greens were just punched and it is early in the year, so putting was not great, but I've been here before and know they won't be tour-level, but they will get to be smooth and they have some character too. If you're just looking for a quick cheap round after work with a beer afterwards this is a good place to go for fun. If you take it more seriously than that then this probably isn't the place for you.
Canterbury Golf Club
Played On 10/11/2015Sadly....CLOSED
This was a great little course for a quick 9 holes after work. Sadly it is being bull-dozed for more houses.
EastWood Golf Course
Played On 03/28/2015You Get What You Pay For
This course looked like it was maybe, at one time, a very nice course. When we played it, in mid-March, it was already pretty baked. Now, if you stayed on the fairways and greens (guessing if you're paying $25 for golf you probably don't do that all the time though), then the conditions were "Fair" and not "Poor", but stray off of the fairway and there's a good chance that you may be in a lie that's dirt or sparse grass. It was worse around the greens (though the bunkers were good), it appeared that there was a cart path in many areas where there's a decent chance you'd be chipping from. But, if you can look by those things and are just looking for a cheap day on the course then this place is OK - that's as high a recommendation I can give it.
Royal St. Cloud Golf Links - Red/White Course
Played On 03/26/2015Great Value, Great Course
I play this course every time I come to Orlando. It was in excellent condition this year (an usually is in at least very good condition). It's an interesting and challenging layout with 3 nines and multiple tee decks that accommodate beginners to pros. All that and it's a great price too!
Kissimmee Bay Country Club
Played On 03/22/2015Enjoyable Round
Got a good deal through Golf Now, made this a good value, even without it it's not too bad. Course was in good but not excellent condition. Many interesting holes. I was concerned about pace of play, having read some of the other reviews, especially when our tee time was delayed half an hour waiting for three groups in front of us on the first. After we got started it wasn't too bad though and I think the delays were because of one group, not the course as a whole (and the marshal actually did move them along at one point). On my next trip to Orlando I would consider this course again but if I missed it I wouldn't go home feeling unfulfilled.
Upper Canada Golf Course
Played On 08/04/2014Good for all
Upper Canada is a nice course, reasonably challenging but still mostly fair. It is also playable for golfers of all levels. The course was reasonably well maintained and greens were in decent shape. We took a cart because it was included in our fee, but it's easily walkable.
Staff was friendly, well, other than the restaurant, they didn't seem to want us there.
I rated the value as average, it's not great for prime time, it's OK for afternoon but it's great if you grab one of those Hot Deals which just happened to be offered for the time I wanted to golf anyway.
If I'm in the area again I'd definitely consider playing it again, but I doubt I'd go to the restaurant (though for the quick beer we had there it did look nice, so maybe another chance...)
Winchester Golf Club
Played On 9/7/2013Good Course for Fun
This is a short course that is very playable. It is a par 70 that has many par 4s that are very short, but too long to be a par 3. It is fairly open, the kind of course that you can hit a few errant tee shots and still not lose your ball. It's fun and is good for what it is, but don't go there expecting it to be a real test.
Shadow Ridge Golf Club
Played On 7/5/2013Great Value in Kelowna
This is a nice course, well maintained, probably the best bank for your buck in Kelowna.
We played there on Friday, July 5th, the afternoon before flying out. After a bit of a slow front nine I was concerned we might have to miss the last couple holes, but in the end we were around the 4 hour mark, so not too bad.
The greens were smooth and fast. The fairways well-maintained. The course overall is shoe-horned into a small area, but the way the fairways are lined it didn't seem to be too crowded.
Overall it was a good experience, I will probably play again if I have a late-day flight out of YLW again.
Whirlpool Golf Course
Played On 4/27/2013Nice course, but nothing special
This was my first time playing Whirlpool, I had heard it was very nice and was looking forward to it. The course was in good condition, especially for April, but it wasn't much of a challenge and there were very few 'interesting' holes - everything was pretty much straight away. Still, it was a good course, just not great and got a good early-season deal so it was worth it.
One note - beware where your GPS takes you, my TomTom brought us closer to Legends and had a 20 minute run to the right place!
