Once and done

I have no real complaints - the course was in decent condition - dry despotic having to dodge sprinklers working on much of the course. good lies in the fairways (I am always surprised to see how many divots are not filled - and there were many) - and the green speed was fair. Bunkers were in poor condition - if players will not fill divots, do you think any would rake a bunker? The real issue - the course was not fun, far too difficult for most golfers with virtually every shot being well above or well below where the shot was hit from. I played with two high handicappers (I am a six) who lost at least a dozen balls between them Uphill shots to greens were beyond their skill level = and they played at 5700 yards.

Been Some Time since I played Old South

Very challenging course in good condition. Fairways plush except where the trees limited sun. Best conditioned course we played in HH area in the last week. There were several fairways where overhanding trees limited approach shots making accuracy to a spot in the fairway important. There were a number of forced carries, and where the winds off those holes on the marsh greatly impacted the ball (as evidenced by huge collections of balls on several holes). Greens were a tad slow but receptive. Pace of play - teed off fifteen minutes late and took 4 1/2 hours. The course could use a set of tees at 6000 yards. NO water available on the course except at the turn or from the cart lady at $1 bottle when she came around. Personally, if Covid precautions limit water, then charge $.50 bottle (still make a profit). A definite must play for better golfers as the course condition and variety of shots required is excellent.

We are glad to hear you enjoyed your day at Old South and hope you have an opportunity to play again. FYI most courses charge $3.00 - $4.00/bottle for water so $1.00 is a bargain.

Rather disappointing

Our review is similar to one posted a few days earlier. Greens very (very) slow with some being postage stamp size. The front nine is tighter than the back and with more character.but short with doglegs that kept the driver in the bag most of the day. More weeds than grass around the greens making chipping problematic as ball would settle between the weed clumps. Pace of play for the front was good (right at 2 hours) but glacial on the back when we had five groups on one short dogleg left par four. The excuse - we were behind a tournament - does not hold water since the last group of the tournament played in five hours per one of the staff. Okay, so on a resort course you expect many non-golfers or novices enjoying the day and slowing everything down but we flooded a threesome following a two some with another threesome behind us. The starter - or the pro shop should have paired someone in fivesomes knowing how glacial the tournament groups were. Took the pro shop thirty minutes to get someone out to explain the issue although more an excuse. For the price - $90 plus $8 for a small bag of balls (BTW, the range was poor with virtually no grass in the teeing area) in high season you would expect better.

Average Course, Rude Ranger

I have played here a number of times. Rather open and straight forward layout, rather short with short par fours and long par threes., make for a very unorthodox pace. Conditions were average - dry.

We were the four group on #3 Red, then sped up and slowed down on a drivable par four. It was at this point a jolly ranger with aa Santa's cap came up to let us know we were 20 minutes behind despite having to wait on every shot. He then snapped - asking what the two guys 80 yards away were doing. And although the starter paired us, I said playing to the green. He then asked, again very bluntly, why we were on the green. I replied - well we hit up - my grandson drive the green and I hit from the fairway. I told him to ask the two guys in the fairway who we met on the first tee. He then chased us for the next five holes despite one of us having a ball in the air the second the group ahead was safely out of the fairway or off the green. The guy was a jerk. He then met us on the back nine with a suggestion on how to tee of to save time. Not sure I have ever seen a more rude ranger.

Personally the starter paired my grandson and me (he plays at college and I am a six) with two guys who hit from two sets of tees up who were weekend golfers - nice guys - who were maybe 20 handicaps.

Regardless, the course layout - Red is a short par five, a short par four and a long par three guarantees a long wait then you hurry up and get treated poorly by a ranger who, rather than get the slow group moving starts telling everyone behind them to pick up the pace.

I doubt we will return.

Very wet, very slow

Orlando has received quite a bit of rain in the last week - thus we expected muddy conditions and were not disappointed. The range was closed and the course was cart path only. They did offer your money back if you quit after two holes but surprising the first two holes were the driest. The front was manageable except for #8 and #9, that were unplayable with no where within fifty yards to drop after the drive and second shots. The back nine - every hole was pretty poor. Bunkers were thin, little sand in many as you could see the places where others hit. The greens were decent - faster than the practice green and held shots. AS expected the pace was glacial, with he two foursomes in front of us playing from eight carts with little understanding of where to park. The Player Assistant were cordial but despite the group two in front of us being at least a hole behind, nothing was done. We were 4 hours and 45 minutes waiting on every shot except for a second putt. Not sure why the two groups were in individual carts as they arrived in two cars. My playing partner and I were not offered two carts (we also came in one car). The kicker - there is no water available on the course unless you pay $3. Are you kidding? If you cannot offer water because of Covid, give everyone a couple of bottles and add a dollar or two to the cost. Dansani water costs WDW less than .20 cents/bottle. There is no excuse, other than to suck a few dollars out of a guest's pocket to do this. A final note - I have played both Disney courses many times. The course conditions continue to worsen over the last five years.

Disappointing

I have played Magnolia for more than twenty years but have never seen the course in this poor condition. Bunkers were inconsistent, greens very slow and unfilled divots were prevalent, Pace of play was acceptable for a course that serves a number of couples or adults with younger players spread throughout the tee sheet. I do think the course condition was not up to prior years. Still, I enjoy the course. and will return.

Great layout, poor condition

I have played Celebration regularly over the last fifteen years but have never seen the course in as poor condition as it was yesterday.. The greens were rock hard with small weeds over much ov=f the surface.. There were large areas where the grass was burned out around the greens and as with many resort courses unprepared divots. Pace of play was unique - playing in four hours but waiting on ever shot after the fifth hole - many times more than ten minutes. Never saw a ranger. Part of the problem might have been that we followed two twosomes where themas was giving his playing partner lessons. Pace of play is not just how long but can you maintain any rhythm.

Layout changed but course remans a must play when in Orlando

My grandson (+1) and I went out a few minutes after sunrise this morning. The course was in great conditions considering the amount play it receives during the winter. I had not played there since the Arnold Palmer renovation - loved the course before but the changes added balance between challenge and playability.. The greens were receptive but very slow, fairway wide, bunkers well maintained and just the right amount of sand. One issue - the course put out a large group on the back that we caught.on #13. This ruined the pace with play on the last six holes taking two hours. We almost left at 16 after waiting more than 15 minutes on the tee then another 15 minutes in the fairway. Slow play is expected at resort courses but today was extreme.

Rather Bland

Played there yesterday for the first time. The course is relatively wide open, thus the windy cool conditions made the course play longer than the card stated. Many fairways and the run up areas in front of the greens were quite wet despite no rain in the past week. Too many shots left the ball half covered with mud. The greens ran true but grainy - and the greens were soft - so soft that high balls plugged on several greens.
The fairway were generous in width but thin. And the areas adjacent to the fairways were not marked (or we poorly marked) meaning a ball off the fairway was in heavily vegetated areas and probably lost.
We made the turn right at two hours although waiting on nearly every hole. The back - 2 hours and 25 minutes as the starter decided to insert a twosome in front of us. Plain stupid as one two holes we had four groups.
In general, the course was flat without any personality or remarkable features. There were many short par fours - 320 yards - but long par 3's (180 yards).
The range was small for the number of players and the hitting area had mats (no hitting from the grass)

Great Layout, very poor course conditions

Falcon's Fire was a disappointment. I played there several years ago and thought the layout was unique (bunkers (seems like a million)line most of the fairways) and not particularly penal. The layout was the same as I remembered but the condition of the course was poor. The greens rolled okay but were sparse at best and did not receive shots well. My grandson played the tips (he is a plus 1) and I played one set of tees up (I am an 8) --- and we both hit the ball high with spin but, regardless of the length of the approach shot, the ball rolled out five to ten yards.

The fairways were sparse (might have been an uneven over seed job) leaving many balls in the fairways in between sitting down clumps of grass. The grass on the back nine was better but still not very consistent. Additionally there were several locations where the sprinklers were either broken or over watered allowing for little roll. Surprisingly, the bunkers were more consistent and better manicured.

Pace of play was average, not helped by a charity shoot out on a par three (for a good cause). As we played 10, we would see three groups on this hole.

The range was worthy of a under funded muni - small clumps of grass surrounded by dirt and divots. Practice balls were extra (why not add a few dollars and give each player a small bucket).

The GPS on the carts was a definite plus. decent over view shot and very accurate distances to the green. Easy to get carry distances as well as from, back and hole locations.

No doubt this course gets heavy play from December through April but the condition was disappointing.

Sweet but ---.

My grandson and I played Celebration after eating lunch in their on site restaurant (which was both excellent and reasonable). The course was in very good condition - fairways plush with a few exceptions, rough just long and thick enough to pose a nuisance and greens smooth. Pace of play was average for spring break in Orlando. The only issue - they moved us up one tee time (not necessarily a big deal but as we were playing elsewhere in the morning requiring a drive, time for lunch and a brief warm up - and then came to the range to move us up another 15 minutes. I asked why we were not notified (they did send me a text reminding me of the original tee time) with the response being "well it was only one tee time". Regardless, I will be back.

Always a winner

I have played the RC Grand Lakes GC many times although not in the last four years. I took my grandson (he is a plus 1) there to play.

We grabbed a bite to eat in the pub before the round. The food was excellent and the service prompt and friendly. The price for our lunch was a little steep but as this was a Ritz property, the rate was fair.

The course was in perfect condition - fairways plush with fast and true greens that accepted well played balls. It would appear that the course staff as well as the guests care enough about golf to fill most of the divots, repair ball marks and rake greens.

The carts were equipped with a basic GPS (front, pin and rear of the greens from your location) but the course is straight forward - no hidden bunkers or hazards.

The day was hot but the course has five or six locations where you can pick up bottled water from large ice chests.

Pace of play was acceptable - just under 41/2 hours. We waited but as a twosome following a threesome of spring break family golfers, the delay was tolerable and expected.

I found a reasonable price on the Orlando Ritz Carlton
web site. The regular price is $185 but usually there is one or two times where a reduced rate is available. If you are only going to play one course while in Orlando, the full price is worth every penny. Make room in your schedule to play here.
