Orchard Valley Golf Course
Played On 11/20/2020Get it Together!!!!
This course has had it's ups and downs ever since Billy Casper Golf took over. After not playing here in two-years due to extremely slow play, I came back in October of 2020, found the pace of play to be very good and conditions "good", except for the very rough greens understandable with recent aeration and charged accordingly, $34.00.
Gave it one more shot Friday November 20 - worst greens I've played on in years. Aeration from over a month ago still not healed (no watering!). Area around the greens was covered with old branches and sticks, grass around the greens looked liked it had not been mowed since October.
Cost was $40 for very sub-par conditions, no value and just another bad golfing experience at this very nice laid out track - too bad they cannot get their stuff together!!
Blackberry Oaks Golf Club
Played On 07/22/2020Needing a little work
The course overall conditions are good. The greens however were quite slow and inconsistent.
Got held up by a group of kids and adults who decided it was okay to become a group of seven, for the last two holes.
Instead of a drink girl meeting us on every other hole, a ranger and some greens maintenance would have been more valued.
We played at a Hot times discounted rate otherwise, it would not have been worth the rack rate. Other local courses are in better playing shape!
Edgebrook Country Club
Played On 05/02/2020Coming back!!
Bobby, Scott, and the entire staff are working hard, and are very welcoming to everyone.
As a former member of this country club, I'm looking forward to the latest improvements to come this year.
I'm confident, this new management is going to get things back to the true "Country Club" it once was, in years past.
The layout is great, the amenities give you everything you need.
A little TLC, and regular groups of players WILL bring Edgebrook C.C. back to its heyday!
Phillips Park Golf Course
Played On 05/23/2019Nice local course but, pace of play can be slow
This course offers a moderately challenging and yet, forgiving layout. Unfortunately due to current weather conditions many areas are fully saturated and ball plugging is frequent. (mother nature's fault, not the course)
Level of play, and players here; mid to high handicap friendly.
Based this, the facility staff should keep the rough areas mowed lower, or have a first and secondary cut. People spend far too much time searching for shots just off of the fairway.
This is a real detriment to pace of play!
Settler's Hill Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2018Golf Visions spoils another course
This course has always offered a challenge with nice tee options and generally, overall good conditions tee to green. (Prior to Golf Visions management)
Much like other Golf Visions managed courses, conditions have turned to far below "good".
One player with us lost a ball off of the first tee in piles of grass clippings, just off of the fairway.
The greens are horribly slow, inconsistent and many require repairs. While a course cannot oversee all players; given the recent weather we have had, even a low quality superintendent and crew with daily course maintanence should provide much better conditions.
My back yard is in better shape than these greens!
Just like at other GV courses, the greens are terrible and can help to spoil a good round.
Waste of time and money!
Oak Grove Golf Course
Played On 05/26/2018Terrible greens, spoil the day
Made the trek to the middle of nowhere to play what has previously been well worth the venture.
Understaffed facility proved to be only a minor inconvenience. Pace of play for a Saturday/Holiday was great but.......
The greens for this time of the year were the worst I have seen recently.
This was a shame and when asked the staff, they apologized and agreed that Golf Visions management has left them hanging. Very limited maintenance support proves to result in greens that are still full of last fall aerations, soft, slow and inconsistently bad!
A spoiler to a good day at a usually good track.
GreyStone Golf Club
Played On 04/25/2018Regulars enjoy, when it's path only first timers stay away
Booked the course on-line, just passing through the area, called to inquire about conditions and recommendations. Staff welconed us newbies and made little in the way of warnings (path only conditions).
Got a great Wednesday rate and, due to a series of events had to alter from 4 to 3, players without incident.
Staff was very accommodating until...
Course being path only and, on course yardage identification was minimal; I wish I was "pushed" to purchase the yardage guide $2 for each cart.
I carry gps but, for my threesome (all first timers), path only made the challenge of the course and terrain a bit tme consuming.
I would have given a higher star rating if not for.....
On the 7th green my playing partners were told by the Marshall to, "pick up the pace", the group ahead was 2-holes ahead.
Never did we see this group from first tee to last. Who knows how far ahead of us they tee'd off but, we played the unmarked path only front nine in 2h:14m. For path only, I felt acceptable and felt harassed.
Presumably the two foursomes behind us (who were together) called in. After acknowledging them twice on and off the course we were given (we're regulars and we play in less than four hours scowls of death). We also saw them on the range prior and recognized they were not new to the course.
This course will challenge any player nicely, with a good choice of tees but be warned;
Several blind shots are a bit of an unfair challenge. (Especially hole 12)
For times of "path only" I would say staff should promote yardage cards and advise no way a good "first timer" play choice.
The terrain makes "path only" a "bring your hiking shoes" day in which I'd suggest one choose another option to play.
Sorry your recent visit to GreyStone was not as enjoyable as we would hope. With the amount of rain this spring we have had an unusually high number of days where we've been limited to the cart path only. Thanks for your feedback regarding the on course yardages, we are working on improving those markings. Thanks again for your review. If you are in the area again, we hope you will give us another try.
Tunica National Golf and Tennis
Played On 04/06/2018Great Tunica Amenity-Can be busy
I play this course every year when visiting the local Tunica area.
It rarely disappoints!
Staff is nice and the only negative is weather can make the course tough (lot of rain and wind) and,
every year the course appears busier and busier.
It shows that their good work is paying off!
Hill Country Golf Club - Lakes/Creeks
Played On 03/14/2018Nice Track - Good Value
The SA area has many very nice courses and playing at this Hyatt Hill Country is always enjoyable.
Pace of play can be slow but, this time all was good and course conditions were in good shape for this time of the year!
Blackberry Oaks Golf Club
Played On 08/11/2016Blackberry Oaks
The course is in generally good condition. The club championship was upcoming and the rough was so long that even shots, in the first cut(s) and just off of the green were tough to find.
Greens cold use some attention. Many unrepaired ball marks and inconsistent grass length made the overall green conditions only fair to average for a public course in the area.
A few traps had exposed ground covering, something I would expect greens keepers to tend to on a daily basis.
Bliss Creek Golf Course
Played On 09/22/2015Nice little course
This facility is always nice. This time the fairways were a little in disrepair and the "super" apparently decided to let an old tree and pile of ag waste smolder on the front-nine - IT SMELLED REALLY BAD!
Also three-balls lost by our three-some in the "First-Cut" of rough - seriously just off of the fairway. That really needs some mowing.
The staff is always nice and the beer selection along with food is really quite good!
Nettle Creek
Played On 03/31/2014Searching in Old Tom Morris, IL
Nettle is a nice stand-by for low priced play. Too soon to tell if this year's conditions will be up to Par out in Morris.
Settler's Hill Golf Course
Played On 5/14/2013Expect to WAIT
This place's play management is a disgrace.
While course conditions are very good, they absolutely refuse to provide drinking water on the course and there is no place or way to stop at the turn. Also, they NEVER have a ranger.
The starter pushes you to get off on-time and then if there is slow play it log jams.
Today's round SIX-HOURS on a friggin Tuesday. All this thanks to one foursome holding things up. People were hitting up on us and we explained and then showed them. They left, then a course “guy” came around in a cart and when we advised him of the issue he stated, "We know we have spoken to them twice already".
That is just unacceptable. It is highly unacceptable on a weekday especially to spend six-hours and watch as multiple holes are empty! I will NEVER-EVER play this mis-managed course again as this is NOT the first time for this here!
Thank you Tkveton for the four star rating and feedback from your recent visit with us. It's a bummer you experienced unfavorable conditions due to Mother Nature. We do hope you can join us again this season for another round when the weather is more forgiving.
