Slow play at Crooked Tree

We played Crooked Tree for the 1st time. Check-in was quick and friendly. Range and putting greens are very nice. Course was in good condition and weather was warm and slightly breezy at times but a great weather day for golf in December.

The round was very slow, nearly 5 hours to play. No course manager on the course and walking 4-somes seemed to be the hold-up on the course. The "beverage cart" lady was extremely friendly and she kept apologizing the the slow play.

In summary, we enjoyed the course play and conditions and our only disappointment was pace of play.

Wonderful, yet Windy

This is a great course, well laid out and well maintained. The pro shop is very accommodating and the pace of play was excellent also. Course conditions were fabulous.

Our day of play consisted of constant wind and a few rain showers throughout the day. Temp was in the upper 50s so it felt cold during the round - still, we had a great time and can't blame Mother Nature for a little rain.

Definitely will play again and would recommend to others.

Rapid City Elks is worth playing

We played the Elks Golf course on Labor Day. The weather was warm in the lower to mid 80s but quite windy all day. The course was in great playing condition and we really enjoyed playing the Elks.

Pace of play was quite slow with a slow 4-some holding up a 3 some, 2 some and 4 some - sometimes all on the same hole. No one on the holes ahead of the slow 4-some and no course marshal to move the slow group along.

The 19th hole was a refreshing treat immediately after golf with lunch specials and a good selection of beverages following the round of golf.

Definitely suggest play at the Elks - we will return.

New Back Nine is a dogtrack

We have played the original 9 holes many times - a mature course in decent condition. Maintenance seems to always be an issue with the original 9.

We played the back nine for the first time and were extremely disappointed. Poor layout as if the course designer/architect had no experience in course layout. Fairways were rough to the point of bouncing the kidneys and liver inside you. New nine has few course markings to show where the next Tee Box - ugh. Nothing but rocks for cart paths. On one hole, the drive must be hit through 3 high-line wires and 3 utility support wires in the middle of the fairway. Extremely disappointed in the new nine and will never play it again.

The Ranch is a great course

A friend from Alaska is in town for 2 months and loves golf. We played a round at SaddleBrooke Ranch and had a fabulous time. The course is a very fair course to play, relatively flat but with plenty of natural beauty surrounding the course. The greens were in great shape and consistent from hole to hole. The well manicured course was fun to play and not excessively challenging - a fair course to play for the average golfer and would challenge the best golfers from the tips. Highly recommend play at the SaddleBrooke Ranch course.

Don't waste your time or money - Deplorable

I am struggling to find anything good about the recent round at Boulder Canyon. It was a Horrible round at best for the following reasons:
1 - we played behind a 5-some that wouldn't let our 2-some play through - we waited on every hole - UGH.
2 - mowers everywhere that interfered with your play - we were forced to wait for not only the 5-some, but for the mowers - until we finished at 11:00 am.
3 - no tee markers placed until we reached the final hole. All tee markers were laid off into the rough - i assume waiting for the tee boxes to be mowed for the day.
4 - players ahead of us drove their 2 club carts up to every green and trap regardless of the request on each cart to remain 30 feet away.
5 - as I am playing one hole, a golfer from another hole saw my ball in the rough and drove his cart to my ball, picked up and disappeared - ouch...
6 - check-in lady was very short tempered and unfriendly.
7 - cart paths look as though they didn't survive the bombing - rough and holes in the asphalt everywhere. Much smoother to drive your golf cart next to the path than on the path.

Bottom line, this place is in a state of turmoil - I suspect money is low and can't afford to keep the place in play conditions. Very sad.

Southern Hills - a great course

Our first time playing Southern Hills was a great experience with the one exception of very slow play in the group of 10 (3 tee times) playing ahead of us.

The course is well laid out, in very good condition, and a great selection of tee distances for all levels of golf play.

As a first time player on the course, it was difficult to determine where to hit shots - a gps system in the cart would really be beneficial to golfers on this well laid out course.

Great course at Meadowbrook

Although the wind was blowing hard and thunderstorms threatened, we managed to get in a great round of golf at Meadowbrook. The course was very well groomed, freshly mowed and it was impressive. Pace of play on the front nine was slower than the back nine, but as a twosome, we expected some delays.

Overall, we recommend Meadowbrook as a great public course in Rapid City - fun and a bit challenging, too.

Needs more attention to detail

Boulder Canyon is a beautiful course setting. That said, we played 9 holes starting at about 7:30 AM and most of the 9 holes were being worked on by the course maintenance staff. We had to wait for mowers to finish mowing before we could hit our ball. At least half of the tee boxes had no markers on them - they were set aside as if workers were to work on the tee boxes. On one hole, we had no flag to shoot at.

It would benefit golfers if the course maintenance was complete before golfers arrived at each playing hole.

New carts since we last played are great - much better than the old carts. Still, our cart was filthy from not being cleaned from previous players the day before we arrived. It was littered with "peanuts" on the floor and other trash in the cart.

Mountain View Course is good, but slow play and no marshalls

The weather was perfect. The course in very good condition. The pace of play was unacceptable. We played as a 2-some with a 2-some in front of us on the front nine and a 3-some in front of the 2-some in front of us.

The 3-some were very slow and didn't let the 2-some in front of us play through. Also,, the 2-some in front of us played multiple balls and slowed us further . because of this. Waiting for nearly every shot bacame a thing to do.

At the turn, we noticed the 3-some and 2-some dropped off - good news we thought. Not so much, we pushed a 1-some on hole 10 because a 4-some in front of him were slow. For some reason, the 4-some wouldn't invite the 1-some to play through but the 1-some invited our 2-some to join him. That didn't help since our 3-some waited the entire round for the 4-some in front of us.

Based on the slow play and no course marshall, I would hesitate to recommend this course.
