Apple Mountain Golf Resort
Played On 7/31/2013This course never lets me down
Course is in fantastic shape, from tee boxes to fairways, to greens and bunkers. It may be in the best shape I have ever seen it for this time of year. I got out today by myself, and actually played the front 9 in just an hour. I didn't catch up with a group in front of me until #12, and still finished in 3 hours. The couple I caught up with had been waiting all day, and it made the last few holes quite difficult for me to find a rhythm, after such a wonderful pace on the front. My hat goes off to the staff for the amazing playing conditions on the course today, and I couldn't be happier! Now, if only Darkhorse would get their act together!
Rocklin Golf Club
Played On 7/20/2013Awesome, old-timey course
Played this course with my buddy, and it is a really great find. Great value course, in excellent shape tee to green. The course is set up to score very well, if your game is with you that day (I was massively hungover following a late night @ the state fair, my buddy wasn't, and despite not playing well, dropped a 76 on my 90ish round). It is not a boring flat course, a large number of fairways are wide open, and not challenging, but have well placed contours in the fairways to create a large number of blind tee shots. It has a throwback, classic country club feel, but has been well maintained. I would, however, like to see the bunkers get the TLC they sorely need.
The Reserve at Spanos Park
Played On 7/16/2013Nice track, good shape
Played this course for the first time in about 3-4 years, and it was in solid shape. The back 9 got a bit windy, and I'm not familiar enough with it to determine if the front 9 was more protected, or if conditions changed (conditions were the same in sacramento when I left that morning, but seemed much calmer through the first 9). No complaints about the course, It is just as I remembered it.
Winchester Country Club
Played On 7/14/2013Great challenge for avid golfers
Winchester is one of the best courses in Northern CA. It is pricy, but well worth the experience. The course is in fantastic shape, although they do seem to be having some trouble with the greens, but not to an extent that detracts from the value. The staff is incredible, and the facilities are in a class of their own. If you aren't breaking 80 with any consistency, you may want to avoid it, as you will probably have an incredibly frustrating day. But if you are able to have fun while struggling, simply to enjoy a spectacular course in tranquil surroundings, then by all means, GO FOR IT!
