Nice course

Played this course for the first time. It has a nice layout. Pretty generous landing areas if you are hitting it straight. My only criticism is the food. I had the chicken sandwich. Every other bite was full of gristle. I threw half of it away because I couldn't stomach the rest. Other than that, I would play it again. The gps in the carts was nice!

I moved on this course 13 years ago. Thought I would get tired playing it. I'm a 10 and it still kicks my butt!! Great layout. Stay out of the native. It's like playing in Scotland. Deep and nasty.

Golf with Chris

Got paired with the assistant golf pro Chris. He was very friendly and a great playing partner. I am actually planning to take lessons with him!! The course was in good shape except for the greens, which had been aerated 2 weeks earlier and hadn't fully healed. Other than that, I will absolutely play there again!

Great winter golf

Played here in the middle of winter on a nice, sunny (albeit windy) january day with temps in the 60s. The course was in excellent condition for this time of year. The staff was friendly. The carts were nice with GPS included. Pace of play was ok...I still finished in four hours but a gentleman that started a full hour behind me caught up to me by the 13th hole. I would definitely recommend this course, especially for the great deals on winter golf!

Walked

Great short course

Emerald Greens is great for working on your short game. Longest hole is approx 197 yards. Some holes require mid-irons, most require wedges only. The course was in good condition for January and it is an easy, short course to walk. Some nicely placed hazards make this a little more challenging than most par-3 courses. My few constructive criticism points:
First, the young man running the pro shop was nice to me. However, during my round, some senior residents were walking their dogs along the paths on the course. There are numerous signs stating no dogs, but the employee came out of the office (with his own dog by the way) and berated the residents walking their dogs for about 5 minutes while I was waiting to tee off on the 9th. I felt it could have been handled better.
Second, the pace of play is a little slow. Lots of beginners at this course. It still went by quickly since it is a short course, but if you are in a rush or impatient, you may want to play/practice somewhere else. Finally, I could not figure out how to get in to the bar area. All the doors were locked and to get there from the pro shop required you to take off your golf shoes. I would have really enjoyed a beer during my round.
All of that said, its a great little course for short game practice and I will most certainly be taking my girlfriend there when I buy her a set of clubs this spring!

Slow....

I always love golfing at park hill. Just be prepared to be there for a long time...no ranger means rounds take a long time. Had a group in front of us with a young player (no big deal), but whose dad thought he could drive the par 4s...needless to say his drives barely cleared the red tees. In general, very poor golf etiquette at this course. My playing partner walked off after 13 holes. Course is great, just bring an extra sleeve of patience...

Nice

Overall was a positive experience. The greens over the first few holes were a little slow and sandy but they improved after that. Only real negative thing I have to say is that a five-some was let out right in front of my group and many were walking so it was pretty slow to start but like any good golfer, I had a beer and relaxed. Course was in good condition for early in the season. The back nine was more challenging than the front nine, in my opinion. I would play here again.

great value

Played here just to get out and enjoy the Phoenix weather before it gets too hot. Bought a "hot deal" on golfnow and I could not have been more thrilled. Course was well maintained. Staff was friendly. Tee boxes and greens in great shape. Its an executive course but I still found some holes challenging. Its a great workout for the irons and putter!! I could see it being busy in the afternoon but I started at 2 PM with a few groups ahead of ours on the front nine and the whole back nine to ourselves. Gorgeous views next to the zoo and of tempe and papago park. Will absolutely be coming back to play more here!!

great except for...

I played this course with my roommate and his parents. It happened to be on a day with 50+ mph winds so it made golfing a little more difficult (as if it isn't a challenge already...#
I felt that the course was in pretty good condition. My roommate complained of poor greens but I felt they were in good shape for the most part. A little thin in places but overall well maintained. Fairways and tee boxes were gorgeous.
For the most part, the staff was very friendly, particularly the bag drop young men and our waiter was nice as well.
However...I would probably not come back to this place solely because of the ranger. My group of four allowed a twosome to play through on the 5th hole. We finished our front 9 in 2 hours #right on pace of play). We made a pit stop and started on the 10th tee. By the 12th, the ranger was all over our group for slow pace of play. The twosome we allowed to play through on the 5th was on the 13th green as we pulled up to the 13th tee and we had twice as many people in our group!!! And we werent holding anyone up behind us. Nothing wrong with our pace at all!! So needless to say, his rudeness put the final damper on a windy, difficult golf day and we called it quits because it was too frustrating dealing with the ranger. Other than the interaction with him, I thought it was a nice course for the money.
