Mentel Memorial Golf Course
Played On 06/27/2021Nice course for 40 bucks.
This course is an above-average muni, offering some length and some tight driving holes. The greens were very nice and putted true, and the fairways were fine. Had the day not been so windy, the course would have provided fewer challenges. The clubhouse was nice from the outside but had very little to offer on the inside. There is no easy loading area and carts are not allowed into the parking lot. The food selection was minimal, and my hot dog was cold. I had come to find out that the pilot light on the grill had gone out and the grill was not operating. Apparently the person working the counter was unaware of this problem. The one amenity bright spot was the person operating the refreshment cart as she was efficient and available every five or so holes. Much appreciated on a hot day.
We may go back, but this is not a course on my "must play again" list.
Golf Club at Yankee Trace - Heritage Course
Played On 03/08/2021Still in winter shape, but a good track.
For a public, city-owned course, the facilities are fantastic. However, the clubhouse is under construction and mostly unaccessable. Many of the fairways are still grooved from late fall aeration, resulting in bad lies, and the greens are in rough shape. The sandtraps are inconsistent and often wet. Having said all of that, I have played here for years and feel very confident by mid-April it will be back to its awesome shape. Right now though, don't expect mid-season conditions.
Legendary Run Golf Club
Played On 08/20/2017Great layout but looking worn
Legendary Run is a wonderful track modeled after some of the best holes golf has to offer. It provides unique challenges on each hole, and rarely offers a flat lie. Scoring well on this course requires smart course management, but where's the fun in that? My disappointment with the course on this day has to do with the condition of the course, as it is showing signs of abuse. The fairways show ruts and bare divots left behind by careless players. The greens are marked with unrepaired ball marks, scuff marks from shoes, and the occasional wedge rut from a careless club toss. I hate to see a layout of this quality show such a lack of caring by its players.
Overall it is well worth a visit, but I am glad i didn't pay full rate.
Legendary Run Golf Club
Played On 09/03/2016Great course
The course is very nice especially the tee boxes and traps. The greens rolled true, however several of the greens were either under repair or had burn spots, which affected play. The course winds through a very nice neighborhood, which also makes it tough to walk. Not as challenging as I had hoped, but a great track.
Beechwood Golf Course - Creekside/Lakeview
Played On 08/02/2015Nice course, poor course management.
This is a nice country course with 3 nines. It's not long, but has mature trees that offer challenges on the shorter holes. Unfortunately, there was no starter, nor were any course Marshalls in sight. We had a fivesome two holes in front of us, which greatly slowed the pace of play. It was not uncommon to have other golfers shouting on the course, and the greens were marked with unrepaired ball marks. All in all, not a bad track, but I wouldn't pay full price for a round.
The Grizzly Golf & Social Lodge - Grizzly Course
Played On 06/23/2015Very nice course!
The course is in very good condition with a country club feel, as it is bordered by homes for most of the track. The greens were true, and the tee boxes and fairways were well manicured. However, the course shows signs of a municipal as the greens showed signs of golfer abuse, with ball divots going without repair and traps that were packed and hard. Further, the signage and parking were lacking, as we found it difficult to find our way around. All in all, we'll play it again for the course, but the facilities need updating.
Woodside/Valley View at Weatherwax Golf Course
Played On 06/07/2014Getting better
Been playing here for years. The greens are in good shape, and the track is cleaner than I''ve seen it in a long time. Great staff, except we only saw the drink cart once in 18. They have fountains on the course, but I would rather have bottled water. Somebody brought a dog to the driving range, which was disconcerting. Still a good track at a decent price.
Kittyhawk Golf Center - Eagle Course
Played On 04/27/2014Should be much better
Nice layout for a muni, but the couse was in bad shape. The tee boxes were uneven and hadn't been mowed, the greens had multiple bare spots. I hadn't played this course for 20 years and was hoping for far better course maintenance after hearing of many course upgrades. Very disappointed.
