Conditions not as good as before

I’ve seen this course much better in years past. The greens held good speed but were very bumpy. Overall conditions were a step down from last time I played here. Course could also use some tree removal, especially around a few of the lakes, with trees growing right on the water line in the middle of the fairway (Hole 3).

A Course with Major Promise

2 Stars but I tend to review on the harsher side. I would definitely play here again. In an area (Coral Springs/Tamarac) with an above average amount of value golf, I would actually put Colony West Champ’s course as the one with the nicest design from a visual perspective. A lot of tree-lined holes, many dog legs, variety of play off the tee, and holes that make you think about what you’re doing. There may only be 4 or less straight par 4s/5s. I really enjoyed many of the looks into the greens. You can tell this was designed originally as a very high-level course.

With that said, sadly the conditions are nowhere near the quality of the golf course itself. I’m not a stickler on tee boxes, but a couple were barren if that bothers you. Fairways and bunkers were in average to above average shape throughout.

The real turn off for me was the play around the greens. Good luck hitting chips or pitches within 5 yards of the fringe - very thin dirt lies, sand holes, pot holes, crab grass, and no real fluffy grass to really be able to play creatively to the pin. With these lies oftentimes the best and only option was to putt, but with all of the little pot holes and crab grass and sandy patches around, it turned into more of a mini golf affair.

Onto the greens. Speeds were inconsistent. Most were very fast, which I appreciate. But they were nearly all very bumpy, scabby, holey, making it nearly impossible outside of pure luck to hit long putts. Balls would bounce in different directions.

Quickly on the other fronts - very nice new clubhouse, including great patio and indoor bar. Hopefully this is a sign of money being invested into the course. Beverage cart came around twice through 18 holes (on a busy Sunday).

This is not meant to be a review that turns people away. I live nearby and would actually come back and play here again soon. Frankly I am really not a condition snob and I can have fun in pretty much all course conditions. But when I see a course like this with so much promise to be truly fantastic, I can’t help but feel a little bummed to see it not being taken care of the way it should be. Even if the greens and side green areas were just brought up to average conditions, I think I would bump this up significantly and the course would be a hidden gem in the heart of west Broward.

Good hole, bad conditions

Grand Palms is a you-know-what-you’re-getting course. The conditions are on par with the price. Hole layouts are interesting and fun. Better conditions would drive up rating tremendously. But the mixed/poor grass, muddy tracks, terrible bunkers, etc drag it down. Greens were fair/slow. On course bar/lounge is the strangest such bar I’ve ever seen in a golf course. Would rather go to a dive bar.

Fun Course with Below Average Greens

Love the layout. Greens were long with some fertilizer and dry patches. Could be a gem with better greens. Good value for price. Definitely would play again, even in the shape it’s in.

Hidden Gem

Perfect green speeds. Fairways and tee boxes in great shape. Some dirt patches under thin grass the only thing keeping it from a 5 star rating (but this would be a perfect, resort-style condition, not something I would expect for this price).

Love the fun layout with a few risk/reward type holes. Makes you think off the tee. Cool tree placement on numerous holes.

Staff incredibly friendly and helpful.

I haven’t tried the food yet. But there’s an old school looking bar and grille inside.

Nothing not to like here! Big value for the money.

(Also one of the coolest course logos in south florida, maybe the best).

Great deal

Played for $40 in the afternoon. Not sure why Golf Now had an aerification warning. Greens were the best I’ve seen them in a while.

Still though, I wish the greens keeper would roll the grass down to make them play faster. Speed is just average. Kind of a let down with such a great and challenging course design.

I’ve also noticed the course staff moving tee boxes up little by little on a handful of holes, so I don’t think the tees are playing the card numbers anymore.

Bunkers have also shrunk over the last couple years. What is left of them are not properly maintained. Less than 20% of them are in decent shape.

I wish an investor would come along and restore the glory of this place. It would be the best public course in all of Broward.

Gem of course design, but conditions not stellar

Eagle Trace is one of my favorite course designs in South Florida. Apart from the strange near identical first and second holes, the remainder of the track is a true pleasure to play and a real test of the entire golf game. The recent green renovations and bunker touch ups have done the course very well. The greens are not fast, but I would rate them as slighly above average in terms of speed and very good in overall in condition. There are no dry patches, bumps, etc on the greens.

My major gripe with this course has always been the areas of rough and outside fairway grass. You can easily catch a dirt/rough lie and sometimes it is very difficult to tell the difference between the fairway and the rough.

I wish this course would be taken care of the way it deserves to be. It could truly be a spectacular loop with the right makeover. But I don't see that ever happening with ClubLink. Clubhouse/Pro shop also needs some major TLC.

8-8.5/10 would be a fair rating.

Fun Change of Pace

Greens were in very good shape and rolling at a slightly above average speed. This is a simple but fun course to swing the irons and occasional wood. Beverage cart around frequently. Dining room nice with a friendly bartender serving good refreshments with a simple golfer’s fare menu. Not much more you can ask for here if you go in with the idea of a simple, fun half-day of golf.

Greens are pure and quick. Bunkers in great shape. Fairways were punch and patchy, thin in other spots. Course layout is nothing to brag about but there are a few nice holes. Great value at $40 for a fun around.

WARNING - Do not waste your money

This course is a complete dumpster fire. Made my 830 tee time early last week. Arrived to be told there were no golf carts for me. I was given a pull cart. I was given no discount on my $55 round. I didn’t mind walking until I saw the course. Every hole was muddy and slogging. A couple holes should be completely shut down because there was huge ponds of rainwater in the middle of the hole, creating a hazard-like area. Tee boxes are in awful shape, dirt and divots, old grass. Fairways were long and covered in weeds. Even drives in the middle of the fairway were not awarded with good lies. Some fairways very muddy. Greens are by far the slowest I’ve ever played. Surprisingly not too patchy, but was basically the length of a standard fringe. To top it all off, there is nothing special about the design of this course. I could only last 9 of my 18 holes before calling it quits.

Even if you were a novice golfer looking for a fun round away from more serious courses, I would steer you away just based on the price. There is way better value in the area. This is maybe a $10/round course at best. $55 is a total rip off. AVOID. I will never be back.

Gem

Beautiful looking course set on a small piece of land. Narrow holes built with challenging shot choices. Greens, fairways, tees, rough all in great shape. Loved it.
