Empire Ranch Golf Club
Played On 04/02/2021Good course. Lousy tee boxes.
Played here on Friday April 2nd.
The course was in decent shape overall, but the tee boxes were deplorable. I didn’t see aeration marks, but they were half-covered in wood chips/mulch. Every tee marker was at the extreme back margin of the box where they hadn’t even mowed it down to normal grass height. You were basically sticking your tee in a poorly maintained fairway (or even rough, depending on the hole). This should be an embarrassment for a course charging $60 per round (with another $10 because I didn’t want to share a cart with a stranger during Covid). That’s absurd. And it’s a real shame. It’s a nice track on a nice property, but come on. Sad to say, I won’t be back anytime soon.
Teal Bend Golf Club
Played On 01/04/2019Teal Better than expected
I’ve played Teal Bend at least a dozen times and always thought it was a solid value. The fairways this time were a bit iffy, but totally understandable for the time of year with largely dormant grass. The greens however, were in terrific shape. Bravo to the greenskeeping staff. They were fast and pure. Will play again soon.
Yocha Dehe Golf Club at Cache Creek Casino Resort
Played On 05/24/2018Near perfect
Aside from the rather hefty price tag, Yoche provides a perfect day of golf. Stunning scenery, challenging layout, pristine condition, and gracious staff make this my favorite golf experience in the Sacramento area. I don’t care that it’s a bit of a haul. It keeps the crowds away...
Morgan Creek Golf and Country Club
Played On 08/23/2017Conditions let this course down
Patchy fairway turf (overwatered muck in some spots and dried hard-pan elsewhere) really spoiled the experience. The bunkers were pretty poor too, but that's more the norm at this price. I don't remember it having been this bad on prior visits. The layout is fine. The staff is nice. They just need to work on those fairways if they wanna be among the higher end of public courses in Sac.
The Lincoln Hills Golf Club - Hills Course
Played On 07/31/2017A disappointment
Conditions really let this course down. The fairways were over-watered with sprinklers running on some holes at noon. I had mud balls all day. The bunkers were appalling, seeming to not have been raked/conditioned in weeks. The pace of play was quite slow even on a Monday (although I can understand this on a retirement community course). The course is reasonably designed with some interesting holes, but that's not enough to justify my drive from East Sacramento given the major drawbacks.
Teal Bend Golf Club
Played On 07/21/2017Solid value
A very solid golf course reasonably close to central Sacramento. Greens are a bit shaggy, but not out of the norm for a course that sees a lot of play.
Whitney Oaks Golf Club
Played On 07/17/2017Solid value
A very nice course with a good design (the back might even be great if not for the somewhat silly 10th hole). A real test from the mid-back tees. Condition sometimes lets it down a bit, but for $40--50 that's to be expected. You'll have fun here if you're on your game.
Dear jcoll,
Thank you so much for your kind review and for visiting Yocha Dehe! Come see us again soon.
