Harkers Hollow Golf Club
Played On 10/26/2019Much improved. Great potential.
I played this course 4 years ago under the prior ownership and it was in terrible shape. I was very impressed with the progress that has been made. The greens were in great shape and were fast and challenging. While I managed to avoid the sand, all bunkers have been restored and had plenty of sand. Fairways overall were good. There were some thin spots but very little weeds and recent over seeding looks to be well established. Tee box are still hit or miss but all appear to be getting attention. This course is challenging and has a very interesting layout, particularly on the back nine where the holes are working across the hillside. Leaves were being blown off the course in the day I played and the foliage was great. I look forward to seeing continued rejuvenation but there is no doubt current ownership is committed and on the right track.
Thunderhart Golf Course
Played On 05/07/2017Very poor conditions
We played this course 3 years ago and it was in average shape. The conditions we experienced today were the worst any of us had ever played in. Fairways were either lacking in grass or saturated and soft. Carts have destroyed many areas where there is grass. Mud coated most every area frIom tee green. One of our carts needed to be pushed repeatedly. The greens were recently aerated but appear to be in reasonable shape. We weren't told of the aeration or conditions and were charged $31 for 9 holes which was absolutely ridiculous given the conditions. Even absent the rain the overall conditions wouldn't warrant half of that amount.

Played On 04/22/2016great historic course
First and foremost....have realistic expectations about this course. It's a historic private course that went out of business during the great recession and is being brought back to respectable conditions under experienced owners. This is a Robert White course with great bones. the front nine works up and down the mountain on holes 3-8. The back nine works side to side up the mountain on holes 10-16. The course was built in 1929 and really takes advantage of the terrain to give you a variety of lies and shot shapes. Greens were all in very good shape. Tee boxes were a mixed bag but are usable with a sand base. Fairways are gradually recovering, particularly on the back nine. Traps are still a work in progress. For the money, you cannot beat the value of playing a course with this underlying character. And if you land on a bare patch, move your ball to some grass! Same with the bunkers,, rake and place will get it done. This place has great potential given continued time and investment.
McCann Memorial Golf Course
Played On 06/28/2014Terrific municipal course
Played on a Saturday afternoon as a twosome. Finished in 3 hours and 15 minutes. Course was in beautiful shape tee to green. Excellent William Motchell layout. Great variety of holes. Well struck shots will lead to scoring opportunities. I would take on e Mitchlell. Purse over a dozen "destination courses" that grind you up.
Putnam County Golf Course
Played On 11/11/2013Nice course. Two different nines.
Played on Veterans day. Generous fairways....tough greens. The front 9 holes are very close together. Errant balls create issues with slow play. Nothing can be done about this...just a product of the acreage. Back nine is more spread out with a greater variety of holes. Course is very well maintained. Greens have a lot of contour and are fast. Overall, a classic Mitchell course...very enjoyable.
Red Hook Golf Club
Played On 9/22/2013Challenging layout, great conditions, good value.
Very nice track. Had the course to ourselves on a Sunday afternoon. Nice variety of holes, nicely maintained. Only negative were greens that were not fully recovered from recent aeration. On the slower side and bumpy. Based on the overall conditions, we assume this is not their normal condition. Golf Now hot deal was a great bargain.
