Pistakee Country Club
Played On 05/24/2018Old school north shore cc in mchenry county
This course is much older than previously indicated. Probably 1915-1920. Probably designed by Harry Collis who designed Phoenix cc and remodeled Flossmor cc. It makes excellent use of its rolling terrain and is very similar to old school northsore cc’s before they were remodeled. Holes 3, 5 and 6 are a test for most golfers who can’t drive 280. 6 is essentially a volcano hole where misses left leave a 40 ft pitch uphill and right a very steep approach. Holes 7 and 8 are n at short par fours with 7 drivable. The par 5 s are weak but fun for normal players. I have been playing this course for over 40 years and never tire of it. You really need a good short game if you want to score and will have many unusual lies. Unfortunately conditioning of fairways and traps leaves a lot to be desired but geeens are decent but small.

Lake Barrington Shores Golf Club
Played On 10/21/2014Solid private course
Excellent condition. Nice mix of holes. Big greens. Much more elevation change than expected. Holes nicely framed. Fun to play. Pace outstanding but it was late October on a private course. Bad driving range mats only but does have a short game practice arrea.
White Birch at Brighton Dale Links
Played On 06/24/2014Excellent value
This course is always a good value. Good pace of play every one of the many times I have played it. Course was flooded by weeks of rain, cart path only, and we still finished in under 4.5 hours. Typical muni condition with fairways and greens slower than high end courses but in good condition Sandwiches and breakfast good. Staff stopped to help look for an errant shot
Meadowbrook Country Club
Played On 06/14/2014Why golf is losing players
5+ hour round. No marshalls. No effort at all to speed play. Course and greens were in good shape but all is overshadowed by slow pace of play. Did not have food or beverage so can't comment but cart girl was able to visit us every other hole because it was that slow. Staff seemed a bit overwhelmed especially since we got carts just as we were teeing off (all in use).
Rivermoor Golf Club
Played On 9/5/2012Nice original design with good greens but now too many trees
Selected tree trimming badly needed to restore playability. Deceptively difficult course with long par 3s and most par 4s over 400 yards often uphill with small greens.
I'm researching the life of Harry Collis (1878-1937.) What information do you have that indicates Harry Collis was the course architect? Anything to help my research is greatly appreciated.
