Oaks Golf Club at Oak Mountain State Park
Played On 03/08/2016An enjoyable golf course!
Early spring conditions. Dormant grass and muddy spots to plug your ball, but what a layout! This
state course is much less daunting than the state
course in Guntersville. Oak Mountain does not have a lot of ups and downs but winds through beautiful forest. Greens need help.
The General Golf Course at Joe Wheeler State Park
Played On 01/13/2016Short all day except on the greens!
Always had an extra stroke to get to the greens...maybe one greenie all day. Deceptive approaches... Wide fairways. Greens rolled very well
given the frosts the week before. Want to play it
again when it's got some green in the fairways and on the greens. Decent price for AL state park course.
Several deer...no bears or coyotes.
Dogwood Hills Golf Club
Played On 05/17/2015A hidden jewel
Small courses can compete with the big boys. Front 9 feels a little cramped but back 9 is beautiful. Well-maintained and the flower gardens were icing on the cake. Greens were undulating and quick. Some narrow fairways and approaches add to the challenges. Lots of fun if you choose the right tees for your distance and game.
Cumberland Lake Golf Course
Played On 01/20/2015A pretty decent way to spend a beautiful day.
A GolfNow Hot Deal made this outing a very good deal. Generous gouge from senior tees was much appreciated. Water carries are eliminated for Seniors on all but 2 holes. Cumberland Lake is a mountain course so you are often penalized heavily if you miss it too far left or right. The greens are rolling better than I have ever seen them at this course. The rye grass used for the winter over-seeding does not have a lot of grain and the ball rolls pretty true.
Links at Briarmeade
Played On 01/04/2015Not easy to find.
Thought I was lost several times on the way to the course. A first round at this track was an adventure on a couple of blind holes. Lots of unseen hazards and very steep approach shots. Greens played pretty well but fairways have bald spots.
Timber Ridge Golf Club
Played On 09/26/2014scenic walk in the park
the course has apparently got new money that was used to clear roughs between fairways. much of the brush still to be removed. nevertheless, had nice views of the Appalachian mtns. Side benefit was to ramble through the Talladega historic district.
Knoxville Golf Course
Played On 05/08/2014Needs maintenance
Fairways and cart trails were terrible. Pitting and ground under repair everywhere in fairways. Had to drive at 1/4 speed because of lumpiness of fairways. Cart paths in dangerous shape. Greens in reasonable shape and tricky/challenging. For first time player, pay the dollar for the course yardage book...cartoons on scorecard were useless and
misleading.
Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course
Played On 12/05/2013A fun course, but bring your A game!
Lots of risk/reward opportunities. Play it wrong and it will cost you. Nice conditions. Never did figure out the speed, grain, hills, and undulations of the greens, but would love to try again. Beautiful grounds and ambiance. One of those courses you need to play twice to score decently. Enjoyed the opportunity to play it at Golf Now prices.
Highland/Grove at Errol Country Club
Played On 12/04/2013Classic central Fl layout
Somewhat long and several uphill holes that play longer than they look. Greens were medium fast and in good shape. Fairway grass needed some maintenance and TLC. The woman at the check-in was very helpful.
Alaqua Country Club
Played On 12/03/2013Challenging and wild
Course was wet almost everywhere and based on proximity to the Wekiva and adjacent swampland it will be a chronic condition. Tight and plenty of ball-eating hazards. Saw at least 3 gators but no bears. Lady had just been mauled by a bear the day before in adjacent neighborhood.
Lake Tansi Resort
Played On 10/5/2013Emerald green beauty! Deceptively difficult without A game.
Played this course every day for a week-long stay in Lake Tansi.
Most of the fairways are average in width and lengths are reachable from the correct tee box with a good shot. Beware the
roughs. They are filled with "sticky" grass and late weekend and early in the week were long. Deep rough was like US Open.
Last 4 holes are sneaky tough. Pace of play was the only negative. Course was busy most of the day and there was a
4-day tournament in front of us during the week days.
LPGA International - Hills Course
Played On 9/27/2013Wet but great maintenance made it playable.
Soggy everywhere due to regular rains all week and rain the morning of our round. Cart path only. Nevertheless the greens were fast. Approach shots were tough... would roll through the entire green even on lofted shots.
Grand Haven Golf Club
Played On 9/5/2013At GolfNow prices: a great value
Very enjoyable.Well maintained. Front nine more recently
aerated (2 wks?) made it more difficult to judge speed. Water and wet lands demand some carry on tee shots, but not insurmountable. Lots of choices on tee boxes to get the right distance from the tees.
Patriot Hills Golf Club
Played On 5/23/2013Good conditions in a rainy week.
Nice track. First 3 holes have wet conditions in a rainy week but it is nice after that. Confusing yardage on par 3 6th over water hazard but worth playing it more than once, so no problem after the first round.
White/Blue at Dandridge Golf & Country Club
Played On 5/23/2013Great little course.
Love the elevation changes and views! Conditions were good despite heavy rains that week. Made some greenies, but they require good length for this senior; can't make it if you miss any shots, even par 5's. Fewer hazards make it very playable.
Pine Harbor Golf Club
Played On 2/20/2013Wortha play.
Greens are sneaky fast even though they are VERY dormant. Fairways need a lot of attention. Maybe they will green up OK. Design/layout is OK.
Cypress Head Golf Club
Played On 1/10/2013Despite crowd in the parking lot and at the starters table, play moved right along
Greens, fairways, and even the roughs were in great shape! Water everywhere but no carries on approaches. Houses all along the course, but did not affect play. Funny story ... we laughed at a posted sign on par 3, hole 16 that asked golfers to use the provided toilet facilities (and not the woods which were right across the street from houses). Later in the parking lot, the assistant pro said he had received a phone call from a resident and asked us if we had ignored the sign. We assured him we were not guilty. Either the resident is harassing the staff or golfers in front or behind ignored the sign. The pro was courteous despite the awkward situation.
Spruce Creek Country Club
Played On 11/14/2012Enjoyable home tour over slick greens.
Homes overlook every foot of 17 of the 18 holes. Not my favorite layout! Greens in great shape and tricky...sometimes fast (I think it was all about grain, but light was flat and hard to read) and sometimes average speed.
