It was a bit moist when I was there, so flag hunting was in season. But when they dry they are fast and a different approach is needed.
The greens rolled very true, with only a few misreads or surprises.
Retail prices make this an elite course, but thanks to their Golf Now participation it is reasonable for more players to appreciate this gem.

Weather has been horrible. But, this course was in decent shape considering the elements.
They have lost some trees, but none that affect play.
For the first time out, the greens were a little slower than normal. But, from tee to green played amazingly well.
We played the Silver tees, which is a nice option, 60 and 64 year old players and made the round more enjoyable.
The food at the turn was a little pricey, but good.
All around a great day. Look for specials, makes it a greater value.

As you peer from the tee box, a bevy of rolling terrain and Bunkers face you. After negotiating around them, protected greens that are extremely fast is the next challenge. After great shots and a 2 put, you card a 7 on a part 4.
As you look back, the bunkers are no longer visible. Just a mild rolling mounds. And you wonder.
How did I get a 7. Welcome to battlefield.
With discounts on same day replays the 2nd tour is always better.

I have been playing this layout for a long time. Spacious fairways, a moderately challenging layout, and superb greens always makes Charleston a Fun play.
The absence of any real rough makes finding and playing errant shots very easy. Which picks up pace of play, I understand. But an Honest rough with tighter fairways this course could be a Bear.
Either way, a short drive from Rochester, this is still a Gem. Look for discounted times, Retail is a bit stiff.
You can also play Island Oaks at the same facility. A tighter course with more terrain. You may spend a few buck more, but a great place for 36.

A shorter course, so it plays well for medium skill players. But without course management, many holes can jump up and bite you. Greens are fair. Not too fast but roll true. Mild subtleties make the short game fun.
The long game challenge comes at the ROC. A long links style layout that is hit and rip fun.
A gem that needs more play.
So, what are you waiting for? Just a short drive off the 90.

Even with the undulating fairways, I got to the green with little difficulties. The short chipping and putting was the problem. Not a fault of the course in no way. But, rather with the uneven terrain, reading the greens for me was a problem.

Out side of that, some tee boxes were a bit narrow.
But over all a great afternoon of Golf.

These greens at Charleston pines are not undulating but very true and fast. A medium difficulty and yardage makes it very playable for most players.
The Island oaks side is more peaks and valleys. A more difficult layout, the greens are true just not as fast. A worthy test if either are your choice.

I played from the Blues and i should have gone next tee box back. At 60 years old i don't hit it as far but it seemed short from the blues. Plenty of challenge on the course and the greens were superb. Truly the best course that I played in Canada on a 4 course trip. A little pricey, But an overall value with the product given.

I have played this course forever and the front 9 is great. Crossing the road for the back nine takes you into Atlantis. Fairway plugs, Bogs and Marshes. Not Fun!
The elevation of the 10th hole sends you into a water world that seldom dries. I major reconstruction to get the water to pool in designed areas would be great. But as a public course... It hasn't happened in 40 years, Don't hold your breath.

It is built on a hill,. Which makes a lot of holes challenging. It also makes it hard for the course to hold water and the fairways are dirt dry. Much of the trouble shots under the teed areas are played off if stones and rocks.
Though the layout shows promise utilizing the terrain, some spots are just rough.
The play on and around the greens are very nice. But trying to hold these greens was about impossible. Course knowledge may have helped this experience, though I believe it will never come.

An open layout with some twists and turns. Greens seemed very true. The fairways have seen some damage, probably from water.
The sand traps had great sand to play out of, for the northeast that is..
Good thick rough, so keep it in the middle.
The last time I played, it was a very hot day and the course had no water. Again, not as hot, but no water. Put a jug out on each side. Customers remember inconvenience.

I actually played the day after my golfnow tee time. I was told that I should have called first to make sure the tee time that I had booked at 11:30 pm the night before was available. What?

So I drove 40 minutes to learn this. They did accommodate me the following day. That was another 1hour and 20minute round trip.

After playing the back nine first in 39. The club pro Bob caught me at the turn, told me he was a great coach for beginners and intermediate players, and that he could help me. Wait, 39 with a lost ball? Am I a beginner or an intermediate player? This man has huge standards.

Great facility. Shorter and narrow. New grounds keeper is given credit for its rejuvenation. Greens are fabulous.

Pace was a little slow. Layout was challenging for intermediate players. Good greens.

A Nice old build front nine, with a different look on the back. Played very well. Some blind tee shots from the tips. Play to the greens was challenging. The greens played slow on the front and seemed faster on the back, but that could just be later in the day drying. Fun.

For the love of the short game. Wedges and flat stick make this fun. Many options in the approach and short games. Great layout.
The staff person seemed as if I was bothering her.She seemed less than happy that I used Golfnow.com. The attitude may decide any further patronage

A short challenging course. Forgiving off of most tees. Sand traps placed around greens keep you sharp. Challenging par 3's and very true greens. Great price with Golf Now.
