Extremely Windy

I play this course a few times a year and the staff is always friendly. It's always windy here, but today it was very windy which made club selection difficult and the course play harder than usual. I was a little disappointed as some of the tee boxes were not in very good shape.
The fairways were pretty thin or clumpy. And some of the greens had weeds growing in them, which was surprising because the greens have always been good and usually fast.

Also the carts were getting pretty rough. One did not have the GPS screen. The club cleaners did not have any brushes left in them and the seats were split. The GPS on my cart was not giving correct distances, as we checked with different range finders.

So I was a little disappointed, but perhaps they will be getting new carts and the course conditions will improve as we get into the spring weather.

One suggestion, although it's nice to have GPS to show layouts of the holes, it's useless if they are not calibrated. And most people carry range finders so I think most golfers would rather save a few $$ , than pay for GPS.

I do look forward to playing here again next month, and hopefully it will not be as windy as it was yesterday.

The course was closed

Thank you to the staff at Atlantis. I have an hour drive from my house to Atlantis and the morning of my reservation I received a call telling me that the course was closed for the day.

It definitely saved me from driving there, as I had pre paid for the round.

So thank you for your consideration. I will look forward to playing Atlantis again.

Best condition ever.

I've been playing this course a few times each year for about 30 years. It was always a difficult playing course and in various conditions over the years. But they have been making improvements the last few years and it's now in the best shape it has ever been. Cudos to the maintenance staff.
The tee boxes and fairways are in great shape, better than other courses in the area. There is one temporary green , #13, Otherwise the greens were all full and rolled well. A few were a little bumpy, but who cares. And these greens are tricky, with very subtle undulations.
Overall I was completely impressed and therefore probably the highest score I've ever given in a review.
I drive an hour to play here, and will now be doing that more often.

January in NJ

What a perfect day to play golf in January in NJ. It was about 60 degrees with a little wind. The only negative was it was CPO as the course was wet from rain and melting ice from previous week. Other than some wet areas in the fairways, and some very poor bunker conditions, the course is in great shape for this time of year. The pace of play was right about 4 hours, which is excellent for CPO and having a few 4somes in front of us. Cudos to those playing in front of us!

I have brought a few different friends to Twisted Dune over the past year or 2, who have never played there. You can blame me if it gets harder to play this course in the future, as every one of them loved the course.
Happy New Year !

First time playing after 20 years

I had previously played the original 18 holes approximately 20 years ago. So this was the first time playing the 19-27 holes.

The course was in very good condition with the exception of the greens. We were only informed when we arrived that the greens had been aerated the previous 2 days.

The course layout was also a little confusing, not being familiar with the course. Some very interesting holes and elevation changes. I recommend having a rangefinder with slope and always going with an extra club when in doubt, to avoid front bunkers. A good mix of long and short par 4s, and reachable par 5s for long hitters.

I enjoyed playing the course and hope to return to play again when the greens recover from aeration.

Becoming A Favorite !

Another great day at Twisted Dune. The staff is very friendly, the course is in great condition, and the weather cooperated to a degree. It was hot, but always a breeze here, and some areas for shade. The starter was friendly, gave us clear instructions re: CPO holes and areas to avoid.

The course is in good condition and requires some shot placement. Good mix of holes and some of the shorter holes are difficult. Definitely some bunkers to avoid at all cost. Some very challenging par 3's . Some very scenic holes.

Tee boxes, fairways, and greens all in good to very good condition. Bunkers contain a lot of pebbles, so be aware. Some water hazards on the course, but should be able to avoid them. Forced carries are over mostly dense growth areas.

Drink cart girl was available more than other courses, and there was drinking water available on the course. Also they do have a ranger , but we moved along at a great pace , playing in 4 hours as a 4some, and were never pushed by the threesome behind us, or waited for the 4some in front.

Listen to the starter

We enjoyed playing this course. There are many blind shots, so listen to the starters instructions. The course plays long and we played the combo, which is still quite long for us near 70 y.o.
The wind plays a part in almost every hole. And being a links style course there is very little shade, except a couple holes on the vack 9
Some of the tee boxes were a little rough, and there were a few burned areas in the fairways. The greens were mostly in good shape but were slow. But that's to prevent them from burning up in the summer heat.we started as a 4some, but we played ahead after the turn, and there wasn't anyone in front of us, so pace of play on the back 9 was excellent. 1 hour 10 minutes.
The starter and the ranger were great assets to this courses. We intend to play it again in cooler weather in the fall.

Better Than Expected

I decided to play Cedar Creek after playing with 2 guys at another course, who said it was in great shape. I was pleasantly surprised, by conditions, since the last time I played there about 2 years ago.

The course still needs work on most of the tee boxes and bunkers. But the fairways were pretty good (a few bare spots which you can avoid) and the greens were mostly full. There were a few with some real bad spots, I think #3 and a few others. They were slow, but I know they can't be cut faster in the summer heat here, so very acceptable.

One thing I noticed was that people drive golf carts everywhere, and abuse the course, especially some wet areas, or soft spots. If they could stop that, it would also improve conditions.

I will return at the right price because they have improved and there are some challenging holes, but next time I will create my own combo as the course has gotten a little to long for me !

Pleasantly Surprised

The reviews I read prior to playing were all over the place, Even based on the same day. So I didn't know what to expect.
But I was pleasantly surprised with the course conditions.. Tee boxes were in good shape with perhaps a few exceptions. The fairways were good except for some thin spots but can find acceptable relief from those areas.
The greens were very good compared to what I expected. They rolled a little slow and were recently aerated with small tired.
The bunkers needed some attention but most courses still do having been neglected during and since the covid pandemic.
Pace of play was slow on the front 9, but much better after the turn and we finished in 4 hours.

Having seen what the new owners have done at Vineyard National I expect continued improvements here at LBI National.

I understand that this all comes at a price. I just hope the course is not priced out of range and there will be some discount opportunities.

Dogwood to Azaela

The course conditions were the best I've played recently.
Fairways and the first cut around the greens were excellent.
The only reason I did not give5 stars for conditions, there were a few greens with problem areas and the bunkers were not as well kept as the rest of the course.

Pace of play on our front 9 Dogwood, was quite slow and there were some groups backed up early in the round. But the slower groups were either finishing their 18 or only played 9 and our back 9 on Azaela was like a private club. We did not see any others the entire back 9.

Some very challenging holes on each course, and water comes into play on tee shots and approach shots making you decide how to play those holes.

Slow Play

What can you do? I've played this course a few times, maybe once a month, based on close to where I live.
It is always windy at this course. The staff is great, very friendly. Carts have new GPS systems.

But the last few times I've played here, play is very slow. The GPS keeps informing you that you are 24 minutes behind, 32 minutes behind, but what can you do? You are stuck behind probably the slowest group on the course and there are 2 holes open ahead of them.

I enjoy playing the course, and always the people I get paired with, but every round has become at least 4.5 hours and usually closer to 5.

Frustrating when you get those messages, but there's nothing you can do about them, and they don't do anything about them.

Wet and windy, but warm

Played as a threesome as the weather wasn't very good when started. Rained hard just after we started, and then a few showers the rest of the front 9.

The course is quite challenging and plays long. The fairways were in fair to good condition. The greens are always slow, and bumpy. Holes 9 and 10 are long par 4s and par is a great score. holes 15 and 16 can ruin a good round with a pond fronting # 15 green, and 16 being a long par 3. Number 18 also plays long as it's up hill all the way and usually plays 2 clubs longer on your second shot to the green. You have to avoid the bunker front left of the green.

This course just needs some loving care and can become a great track again. They are replacing greens the last few years, and all they need to do is some work on the bunkers, roll the greens once in a while, and clean up the debris (branches, leaves etc.).
I think they're trying and it has improved .

Great Greens for February

I played with 2 younger guys, both very good players and we had an enjoyable afternoon. I was informed that they had rolled the greens earlier that day and the greens were excellent.

The course is in good condition, except for where people drive in some low wet areas. The staff is always very friendly from the pro shop to starter to the on course
cart lady. .

The only negative is the slow play, and today it was a twosome 2 groups in front of us. The GPS reminds you how far behind the pace you are, but they do not speak to the group that is slowing down the play.

Play this course

I was a single paired with 3 others. We played Azealia/Magnolia. One hole (M1) was CPO. The course was in great condition for February. Winds made it a little difficult to play. Most important the greens were in excellent condition.
We played in just under 4 hours. That was exceptional as we played from 3 different tees..
Staff and facilities are terrific.

Need a Ranger

I play Castle Bay about once a month, and the price is reasonable , staff is great, conditions are average to above average. They have new carts with GPS which should help with pace of play. There is a range and a chipping and putting practice area. I usually get paired with friendly playing partners, and enjoy my round.

The last round was a little disappointing, taking close to 5 hours. The annoying part was the GPS tracks your pace of play and after each hole displays how far behind the pace of play your group is. The problem is you can only play as fast as the group in front of you !!! So it should be very easy for the staff monitoring pace of play to see which group is causing the problem, and have a ranger speak with that group.

You do not even need a ranger on course at all times. If our group is 35 minutes behind, and the group behind us is behind, and the group ahead of us is behind then it is either the group in front or possibly in front of them. As it happened to be the group in front of us, as we were waiting on every shot from the 3rd hole on. And by the 11th hole, there was a par 5 open in front of them.

Good Day

The only complaint I have is I booked it on Saturday for a Tuesday round with a friend on GN and there wasn't any mention of aeration of the greens. I had even checked the Vineyard National website and it wasn't mentioned there, until a friend told me you actually had to try to book a round on the website and that's where they had a warning! The rest of the course was in pretty nice shape except the greens were punched and sanded, and the plugs were left next to the greens, just past the first cut .
I wish all courses just posted their maintenance schedules.

Great Day, Great Tournament

I entered a 4some in the Labor Day Scramble,, which had to be the best organized tournament that I have ever played in.
1. First they requested prepayment prior to the tournament, which eliminated the check in problems and delays, in the pro shop..
2. The cart staff had the carts organized and our clubs were placed immediately upon arrival.
3. he fee did not include range balls, but they were conveniently located by the cart check in.
4. The tournament started on schedule, and even though it was a scramble , with mulligans, and A and B groups on some holes, we played in under 4 hours.
5. Lunch was included , buffet style in the beautiful clubhouse and the staff was excellent and courteous. The food was also better than the typical hamburgers, or hot dogs, serving chili and pulled pork sandwiches along with the usual beans, cole slaw etc.
6. It took a little while for the later groups to wander in which delayed the awards, somewhat (we failed to place in the top 3) so I do not know what the top teams rec'd.
7. And it finished with the raffle prizes which included a number of Callaway clubs, from wedges, putters, fairway woods and drivers and a Callaway bag.

Now in regards to the course it was in excellent condition, from tee boxes, to fairways and especially the greens. Thank goodness it was a scramble as the greens had very slight undulations by most pin placements, which made the first putt very difficult if over 6 or 7 feet away. I think our 4some only made 3 of our first putts.
And a final comment the golf carts are probably the nicest carts on the grand strand, and so are the on course bathrooms.

When these reviews ask if you would recommend this course to friends, not only are we doing that we are playing with 2 friends tomorrow, who have never played this course !!! I've even recommended this course to strangers !

Very Nice Staff and Course

We had an exceptional day, from dropping our bags, thru the end of the round. The pro shop and clubhouse is one of the best and the staff was great (friendly and helpful).
from the minute we were on the putting green we knew we were in for a great day.

The course was in terrific shape, from the tee boxes, to the fairways, to the greens. The rough was pretty bad and you were penalized for missing the greens, with some gnarly rough surrounding them.

The carts were equipped with coolers with ice, and diagrams of the greens with pin placements.
My only negatives about the Pines course at Seaview, were: no ball and club cleaner on the cart, which I expect at an upscale course., no diagram of the course layout on the scorecard or cart and there were quite a few holes that were blind or deceiving, and the bunkers were not very good. Mostly hard sand or water puddles, which could be expected considering the amount of rain recently. But no soft white sand.

Pace of play was excellent, finishing in about 3.5 hours, and we will definitely play this course again when we can book a discounted price.

Beautiful Day of Golf at Farmstead

I always enjoy playing Farmstead as the course conditions are always good, the staff is friendly, and the course is a mixture of somewhat challenging holes, especially when windy. Strategically placed bunkers both in the fairways and around greens seem to protect most pin placements. No putt is straight as every green has subtle breaks. And the greens are true. Players who can chip well from around the greens and who can read the speed of the greens can score well. There are birdie opportunities, on # 1 and 5 0n the front, and # 11, 12, 14, and 17 are the best opportunities on the back. So good luck and enjoy your round at Farmstead.

Inconsiderate Group in front of us, otherwise a higher rating

I have played this course a few times each year, and I think the course may be in the best condition ever. Fairways were excellent. Bunkers had sand not hard pan dirt. Greens were very good. We played Bay to Sands and the greens on the Sands were very plush and slower than the Bay, but perhaps they alternate cutting greens on the 3 different 9's.

The only problem we had were a group of 4 women playing in front of us, would not wave us up, and had the entire course backed up as we were playing as a twosome, and the 4 some behind us caught us on the third hole and had to wait on every hole. We actually had to wait 10 minutes on the par 4 8th tee, while the group in front of us were driving back and forth , both people would get out of the cart for each shot etc......
The par 5 9th was almost completely empty before we could tee off on # 8.. Then it got worse as we approached the 9th tee they had not finished teeing off yet and we would have had to wait 3 more shots, so we decided to skip that hole and play the Sands in less than an hour and half, to eliminate an over 5 hour round.
So it would be nice to have a ranger drive by once in a while, just to try to maintain an average 4 hour 20 minute round.
