Great Experience

This seemed like a higher end Course to me. Even the drive in from the road was spectacular. The practice area was very nice (pay for balls if you want them) There was some dormant grass in the rough but played off season, expected. The greens and the fairways were great. There was one green near the airport (Par 5) that had some odd grass or weed coming through that caused the ball to plinko when putting but the others were mint. Good sand and in the bunkers. The layout was well thought out with generous fairways and some risk reward holes. Saw a few Gators laying about as well. Hole #17 reminded me of TPC Sawgrass in its design. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Had a burger and the food was also good and others peoples meals also looked delicious. Great experience, do not hesitate to play this course.

One of the Best I've Played

I loved We-Ko-Pa. Played 36 holes. Greens were perfect! So were the bunkers and fairways. Hats off to the groundskeepers and course designer here. In addition to pristine conditions the views are breathtaking. Maybe Saguaro has slightly better views. I don't think I could ask much more out of the quality of a course or conditions. Cart staff were friendly, pro shop front staff were OK. GPS on carts, free driving range and practice area. We ate at the clubhouse, the food was awesome but the service was bad / slow. Very expensive for a blue collar guy like me, but I really, really enjoyed it. Got a more reasonable twilight rate for the second 18.

Over-Rated

Don't waste your time and money on this overrated and overpriced course. You'll thank me if you take this review with merit. Its started with the starter being rude. Not just me, several in our group commented on it.

Onto the important stuff. The layout was OK, avwrage for Scottsdale. Nothing outstanding and better options for scenery in the areas. The fairways and tee boxes were good.

Here is this courses biggest weaknesses. For a course that has so many bunkers as to be its major feature.......have good bunker conditions.

In all the bunkers I was in it was shale, pebble-like stones or very course rock like particles. After a very shallow covering of this "stuff" it was hardoan underneath. You wont damage a club in the bunker but they are some old the worst I've played. I'm a decent bunker player but not out of whatever these things are.

OK, and here is the next thing. If you hit you ball out of the fairway into the non-grassed areas (all players do occasionally, even pros) this non-grass areas are all small rocks. Having paid aporx $1000 for new irons there is no way It'd hit them out of this club damaging stuff outside of a money game or competition. Just a dumb design option, stupid actually. I'll hit out of waste bunkers, sand and hardpan all day but not pebbles.

I found some greens to be inconsitent in speed.

I wouldnt play here again. Definitely not worth the money in my opinion. I'm not a hard reviewer based on my previous reviews but this place earned a bad one from my perspective.

Above Average - Suits my Game

I liked this course because it suits my game. WIDE fairways....LOL. The course doesn't kill you if you miss a fairway which gives non-perfect players a chance to be in play and have a shot at the green. Greens were is good shape and speed but generally well protected. Missing the will require a skilled short game. Staff was average friendly and the food in the clubhouse was just OK. We played both courses......enjoyed them both. Free driving range, GPS carts, and great practice area. I'd recommend this course,

Enjoyed this Course

This is a very nice course with nice staff. I would recommend to a friend. Some of the pros were the views were very nice. Generally the course is in average or above condition. This is kind of a short course and is designed to be what I'd call target golf. Driver isn't even required and probably best not played on many holes. I put a premium on greens so I'm going to be a little critical here....SLOW, SLOW greens in average condition, The course does have some neat elevation changes. Also blind shot holes which I hate a a first time player. Average course with above average scenery and a few quirky holes. No GPS on the carts, Driving range balls weren't free. Worth playing still.

Also we had lunch here and the service and food was awesome !!

Wow!!! A must play

I dont normally give out 5 star reviews but I'm going to here. This place is spectacular. I didn't eat in the restaurant do I can't really comment but the sandwich at the turn was good.

Greens - Perfect
Design - Perfect
Overall condition - Perfect, there were some areas off the main play area with bare patchs but who cares. Sand was good, only in it once.

Not sure what could even be better. I'd I had to stretch, the ProShop was a little underwhelming (not the staff) but the content of stock.

Also, real green to hit to on the driving range could evaluate to a new level.

If you're ever in the area this is s must play.

Top 10 in Niagara

We are so lucky in Niagara with so many great golf courses. I've played Twenty Valley many times over the years but my first time reviewing it. Always really enjoy my time here and you won't be disappointed if this is where you decide to play. It's a top 10 course but maybe just falls off the top five. A top 10 in Niagara is better than most other courses I've played in Ontario. Ok, so greens are extremely important in my reviews. Yesterday they were horrible but it fall, they were doing work on time, nothing would roll true. I think they reduced the rates do to this.... $35 with a cart! Forgiven. Normally, Twenty Valley green are excellent in past experience. The layout is very interesting with lots of evevation changes. A smart golfer can do well by hitting the ball in the safe spots. Caveman golf can be penal. However, if you have elite skills and avoid trouble you could put up a good number if you take on the risk. Favorite holes #18, #9, #10. Least favorite #3 (hard, if on left side of fairway still could be blocked out), #13 (very interesting, just don't like this type on shot, super cool hole though)

I've never seen it in bad shape and one of the fewer courses around that actually look after their bunkers.

Play Twenty Valley you won't regret it.

Big Changes Huge Improvement move Sawmill UP

Niagara is home for me, I try to play all of them I can get on, however, I have to admit I haven't played Sawmill in about 20 years. I went out last Sunday and its so much better than it used to be. The practice area is greatly improved - thank you so much. So is the clubhouse with a major renovation. The course conditions are also greatly improved (bunkers, greens, tee boxes) There have been some new hazards placed in tricky places where your drive would typically land. Yikes. I can't remember the hole number but I still love the Par 5 on the very back of the property where to need to ring the bell. In fact, there is no hole I don't like. The trees are all mature now and this is not a grip it and rip it course anymore. Definitely a TOP 10 in Niagara and maybe just slips outside the top 5. I was so impressed I think I may look at Men's League or a membership next year. I played both Twenty Valley and Sawmill this week. They are both close in rank now and in the past I'd give Twenty the nod but with the improvements to Sawmill (especially practice area) I prefer Sawmill.

Kudos on the work you've done!

Buddies trip so first time playing or even hearing about this course. Lived it from the. I mentioned we pulled in the tree lined entry. The Conditions were awesome. If you've read any of my reviews you know I place heavy rating in the greens performance and these did not disappoint. As good as any. The layout was. Very fun and interesting.. I thought it was very fair, even for a first timer I don't know, some places just have a feel to them and this one did....a good one. Clubhouse was high end and the. Eat we had was good as well. Good pro shop too. Staff was friendly. Really glad I played it, would highly recommend. One of my favorites on our trip.

A Must Play

I really enjoyed this course. It's was challenging but fair. If you really got off the tracks you would get penalized but you probably deserve it for hitting such a bad shot. The course conditions were excellent HOWEVER, areas were I believe there should have been lakes or water were completely dry. The greens rolled true and fast. The layout was very nice which made you put thought into different shot options. Very quick round, we had no one ahead or behind us. The Pro Shop may have been the very best I've seen, not much in the way of equipment but clothing that would challenge some golf superstores. The staff were friendly and accommodating. A must play if you're doing a golf Trip in the Orlando area.

Great Experience

I always wanted to play this course and really glad I did. It was neat to play a course where the PGA has been and watched on TV. Everything was awesome. The only thing was lunch at the turn was long and the staff in the hut were getting people's orders mixed up. Other than that I'm finding it difficult to find anything negative to say about the his place. Practice facilities - Nice Greens -fast true rolling and receptive. Fairways - 90% perfect. Tee blocks - well Maintained. Bunkers - consistent. The Mickey Mouse Bunkered Par 3 if tough, but if the wind is up, good luck. A par is a good score here in ideal conditions. If I ever get the opportunity to come back I will. Loved it.

One of Niagara's Classic courses

I'm a Niagara resident and played this course many times over the years. It's a top five in Niagara and part of the Niagara Parks Commission excellent series of courses. Despite severe weather conditions the courses was in excellent shape. I think I may even enjoy this one over Battlefield and Ushers Creek but it close. Hole #2 is my favorite with its signature beauty. The greens roll true and have a nice predictable speed green to green. The guy in the pro shop and starter were both very friendly. I'd give the layout 5 stars BUT hole #5 (par 5) and hole #11 ( par 4) have obstructive tee shots that I have to play a club less than driver unless you hit a dead straight ball flight. Hate this, but a chainsaw would be an easy fix. Makes these holes gimmicky in my opinion. Overall a great experience you won't go wrong picking this course. New carts. Oh by the way, the food is excellent in the restaurant and the beer is cold.

A Must Play

I'm giving this course a 4.5 star. The greens are fast a pure. Well maintained. Very nice practice area. Some spectacular views. I actually stopped on the 9th hole because I needed to take a picture. Two negatives for this course, 1) it's pricey and 2) the bunkers are very inconsistent. All the staff were very friendly and the food in the clubhouse was delicious. I don't care for the tee shot on the par 5 16th, takes some local knowledge to know how far to hit you tee shot. A beautiful drive may be too much. Careful. Also, hole 2 got me, very difficult tee shot and approach. Overall the course is fabulous and I'd recommend you try it. It was a bit pricey for me but it was a great experience.

Very Nice - Could be better

First time I played this course. Was passing through on business and grabbed a GolfNow. I played it from the tips at 6600 plus yards. The guy at the clubhouse was nice and the patrons on the course we even nicer. I played as a single and 3 groups let me play through. I finished in under 3 hours! The course is average to well maintained. Unfortunately nobody seems capable of repairing a ball mark. This is primarily the players responsibility but if I ran the place I'd have my Rangers armed with repair tools and have them repair ar least one ball mark every time they passed a green. I thought the greens were very good generally and I'm picky. Ok, here's my beef with this course, TOO MANY SHUTES! It drives me bananas when you can't hit a normal shot off the tee. Cut back the trees on hole 2, hole 10 and I think 13? (Over the water, thread the needle to an uphill dogleg left - ya that one) These design features left a bad impression of quirky and unfair really. Most amatuers can't hit knockdowns, fades and draws on demand. That's my gripe, but overall a great course and worth playing for sure. I was not disappointed, enjoyed my round and will be back if I get the chance. Thank you.

Better than most. Top 10 in Niagara.

I'd give TW between a 4 to 4.5. Unfortunately I played it before the renovations to accommodate housing and it was a beast then. With many shorter holes now some of the teeth are gone from this Lion. I still have it in the top 10 in Niagara but sadly just outside the top 5. it's wouldn't be fair at this time of year to comment on conditions but it was in great early shape. Historically conditions are high end though. Some neat challenging holes, there are a few where you can drive the green over water or take the smart route. 9 and 18 are great holes. The staff was very friendly in comparison to most.

Enjoyable Course.

I just really enjoy this course. I've heard bad reviews via word of mouth and Internet reviews. Respectfully, I must disagree. The practice area and driving range is very nice and so is the clubhouse. I think I've played here three times now. I love the setup. Suits my game, grip it and rip it off the tee. They give you lots of room. Your approach will require more precision with well guarded greens and water. Escarpment is my favorite. Greens are very good, if I can recall so are the bunkers. Overall, very fair and enjoyable layout. Today, April 3rd, I think their 2nd day open for the season obviously conditions are terrible in comparison to in season. It's not even fair to judge a course at this time of year, I'm just glad they were open. I'm sure things will get back into excellent shape as the season progresses. I got a Red Hot Deal on GolfNow so value for money was excellent.

Great Option for Golf - worth playing

I've played this course many times. It's an enjoyable experience. I have to say the course conditions and layout are average. The course has changed ownership since I played it many yeasr ago and the conditions and greens are getting better all the time. The Staff are very friendly nice people and even though the clubhouse is far from high end the food is good and above average for a golf course.

A agree with some of the other reviews that the back 9 is far superior to the front. Hole 11 is one of the toughest par 3s in the Region. Hole 12 is the most interesting and thought provoking hole on the course. So many ways to play it. Play it smart, birdie chance play it wrong, double bogey is in play.

The condition of the course is not pristine like the Super high end courses in Niagara. They are average, that's not a knock. The value for money here is awesome. I got a great deal on GolfNow. As a single, $20 with a cart. Are you kidding me? Even the regular rate is reasonable.

I'd be happy to play this course anytime.

This is a fun little course

I can't believe this course hasn't been reviewed. Probably because most of the people who actually play this course are just discovering the Internet. .LOL. This is a fun track set at the base of the Niagara Escarpment with some beautiful views and great feal. The course is 9 holes and it's short. 4 of the greens are driveable if you can drive it 300 yards. The greens are in good shape and so are the course conditions. Hole 9, is one of the most difficult in Niagara, par is a great score. I think it's $14 for 9 holes Walking. You can get finished in under 2 hours. Great value for the money and I always have a good time here.

One of the Best in Niagara - USA and Canada

I normally golf in Canada in the Niagara Region. This course is top 5 easy of both Countries. The practice range, putting and chipping areas are nice. The course has great layouts with trouble and lots of risk reward situations. Maintainance is excellent. Very heavy secondary rough and water that can cost you strokes. Greens can be tough with major undulations that force you to hit a specific section of the green or bring 3 putting into play but the greens are also perfect. They roll very very true and fast. If you miss it's because you hit a bad putt or had a bad read. The price point of 40 to 60 dollars is reasonable for what this course offers. I think I like it even more than Legends and would give Grand Niagara a run too. Definitely a better value for money. Pace of play was good. After the round, had a large draft and dinner for 20 bucks including the tip. Food was also good and the clubhouse is really nice too. It's hard to get over there sometimes and you have to deal with the boarder, but well worth it. If you haven't played this course put it on your list. The best one I've played in WNY.

Still one of the Nicest in Niagara Region

I love Penn Lakes!. Not sure how my review will show but I'd give it 4.5 Stars. Points lost in value for money and I don't think they participate in GolfNow. Sorry I just want a better deal. Everything else is perfect. I've never seen the grounds and practice ranage more manicured in Niagara. It extends to the course. Fantastic lay out of all 27 holes. Fairways are like carpets. The course has a feel like you're playing somewhere special. Great greens! Bunkers too. I wouldn't say the course is overly difficult but it's challenging at the same time. Just right actually. There aren't any jaw dropping signature holes that blew me away, but they are all very, very nice. I'll play here as often as I can get a chance. Won't pay more 55 dollars though which I got through some Internet deal from their website. If you get a chance to play this one you won't be disappointed. Long known as one of Niagara's best. Definitely top 5.
