The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge
Played On 04/26/2020Would you guys change the grass on the greens already?
I love this course so much except the greens are dependably crap. I have no idea why they insist upon keeping these as bentgrass. They spend all summer with long, furry, mushy greens to keep them alive, but having just played now with aeration weeks ago, they are rolling slow and fuzzy during the time of year when they should be healthy and quick.
The Preserve gets less play, is less popular, and the greens there are almost always better than Chapel Ridge. I would take CR's layout 10 out of 10 times over the Preserve, but I can't do these greens anymore.
I remember asking in the shop last year if they'd considered changing to Champion Bermuda...I was pretty much laughed at and asked why they'd want to do that? Newsflash, because your greens are never good with bent grass.
I really hope they make a change one of these days.
Mill Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/21/2017HORRIBLE Greens
Mill Creek is a great layout and would be a great value except for one thing...the greens are AWFUL. After a few years of having the greens die in the summer, they put in Mini Verde grass, which is horrible. The greens are so inconsistent and spongy, it's basically like a big fringe.
There is a reason all the courses in the area that have champion bermuda are doing well, and the ones that put in mini verde are terrible. I appreciate that Mill Creek tried to go with a new grass, but enough is now known about how the hybrid bermudas perform in this area to call mini verde a failure and switch to champion. I will not go back until they get new grass on the greens.
The facility, the staff, the conditions elsewhere on the course are all very good. But it starts and ends with the greens. I'd rather play Hillandale - they have Champion Bermuda.
You are really wasting your time if you’re asking anybody in the pro shop about their golf course. The greens have been bad for years and the staff has a condescending attitude generally. It really is a shame because the layout is beautiful. Unfortunately it’s outweighed by the course conditions and staff.
