Tired course

The course looks like it needs a lot of work to improve the tees & cart paths in particular. I play a lot of golf at different places & this course is like a lot of others at present - lacking $$ to fix obvious problems. The layout is good but the cart paths are dangerous in places with large deep potholes with no warnings. The greens on the front 9 looked like they had been recently renovated as they were quite long & slow but there was no course warning about this. The back 9 greens were very good.
My biggest concern was the state of the golf carts. I had read in advance from other reviews that the brakes on the carts were not so good & I can attest that to be fact. On a course set on the terrain that it is that is simply dangerous. I saw several other golfers chasing their carts down the hill as the parking brake failed & I had to do the same too. After that early mishap I parked the cart across the slope at all times.
Pace of play was great & if the course was to improve I'd come back again to play in the future.

Beautiful but tough course

Good practice facilities adjacent to the 1st tee but no starter. Very important to choose the tees most suitable for your ability as there are several long carries required from the tee. Some bunkers had fresh sand while others were washed out. Greens had been recently renovated but ran good. Course layout is good with a mix of tough holes in between others. The last few holes played very long into the wind. A course marshall would have been helpful as there were several very slow groups out playing - a group of 4 who kept parking in front of the greens & walked slowly off each green, a twosome sharing clubs who struggled to hit the ball at all playing from the tips & chatting on their phones at times instead of playing their shot & another twosome where one could play but the other struggled. After a good pace of play the front 9 the second 9 was painfully slow!
The 18th hole is a real challenge - toughest hole on the course last bordering on being unfair with a tough tee shot followed by an even tougher 2nd shot to the green. If you're not hitting it well you'll need extra balls for this course.

Great value for a good layout

First time playing this course & I was influenced by recent positive reviews I had read. I wasn't disappointed at all. I really enjoyed the course layout with several challenging holes. Main problem was that the greens were in poor condition recovering from recent renovations. The greens were extremely slow with long grass & many bunkers on the front 9 were simply mud. Back 9 bunkers were in much better shape with fresh sand so hopefully they continue to repair the bunkers. The greens will come back as shown by the condition of the back 9 greens.
Certainly worth playing due to the many challenging holes.

Busy course for good reasons

I always enjoy playing this course & today was no exception. It has an interesting layout & is always in great condition when I visit. The course was busy resulting in play being rather slow. The further some golfers went they slower they got.
Despite the slow play the course presents a real challenge on many holes. It's a very strong finish so no wonder play slows up towards the end of your round! Greens ran true & fairways in great condition.

Interesting course

Interesting layout with some really good challenging holes. Only real problems were that there was no starter & some golfers probably should have quit after 9 holes - the further they went the slower they got! Most golfers were courteous & let me play through making for a fast front 9 holes but then I struck the foursome who wouldn't let me through & they were slooooooooow!
Excellent value for money playing this course & it will present a challenge to most golfers on many holes.

Great layout but needs some TLC!

The course provides a good challenging layout but needs some attention. The greens were very good rolling fast & true while the fairways were in good shape but the tees were in very poor condition - more sand than grass in many cases. On several holes it pays to be conservative & layup leaving yourself a pitch & a putt for par rather than trying to hit in the green in regulation & then getting into trouble in hazards around the greens [bunkers & water]. Pace of play was excellent with 18 holes played in under 3 hours.

Fantastic experience

As I was playing this course I kept thinking why aren't there more people out here playing it? Great layout designed by Greg Norman with several challenges to tempt you to play beyond your ability but if you play conservative you should score well. Stay out of trouble! I've played several courses in the area in the past week & the greens here were the best by far. They run smooth & true so you pick the line, hit it & watch your ball fall in the hole! 18 holes in under 3 hours. Course staff were friendly & very helpful. A course to play again!

Great layout but wet weather impacting on course

Recent wet weather has left this course playing long with many wet spots to avoid. Greens were in great shape & rolled true but most bunkers were water-logged & out of play.
A great layout provides some tough challenges with several water carries tempting you to possibly take on too much. Pace of play was exceptional with 18 holes completed in under 3 hours.

Challenging Course

This course presents quite the challenge so pick your tees to suit your ability as some tee shots from the back tees require quite a carry to find the safety of the fairway. Recent wet weather has left this course play long. Pace of play was good & greens were in good shape.

Great layout but slow play

The course has a great challenging layout but the greens have been recently aerated & sanded. Practice facilities are first class & staff most accommodating. The GPS on the cart proved very helpful with the touch-screen allowing you to work out distances to decide whether to lay-up or go for it! My biggest complaint was the pace of play - it took nearly 3 hours to play the front 9 thanks to a group of 4 struggling with the challenges the course presented & not a course marshall to be seen to hurry them up. Thankfully after 9 holes our group played through as they stopped for refreshments & we got the back nine finished in under 90 mins.

Great layout but needs some work!

I've played this course several times in the past few years. Several of the holes requiring a water carry really need to have the reeds cut down as they're well over head high & you need to back up quite a bit in order to hit over them if you splash the ball. Greens rolled well & fairways were in good shape - just the rough needs some trimming. Some bunkers have been taken out but many more could be removed. Several holes will challenge you & once finished you look back & realise you should have played them differently. Conservative approach pays off most of the time!

Course in great shape

I've played this course several times over several years & this was the best shape I have ever seen it in. The fairways were pristine, the rough challenging but not too long & the greens rolled true. The weather was sensational - you couldn't ask for a better day to play golf & the course matched it.

Nice layout

This course has a nice layout with some interesting & challenging holes. It certainly paid off playing with someone who had played the course before as some dangers were not obvious! Main problem was that the fairways had recently been sliced & fertilised meaning there was little run & the grass was more like a shaggy rug than a nice carpet. That being said the course provided a good challenge.

Good course but staff need to improve

I was very impressed with this course - it's an interesting layout with plenty of challenges but if you think ahead it plays fairly easy. It was showering when I arrived & all the carts were soaked along with the scorecard & comments card. Mistake #1 in wet weather don't put the scorecards on the carts - the starter should hand out scorecards. Despite the rain the course was in great shape - the greens certainly have some contours to them so you need to make use of the GPS & fire at the right part of the green where the pin is located. 3 putts were common when I wasn't on the right level. Mistake #2 the beverage cart lady will not wait for you to play your shot before driving up to you but rather drive up to you in her loud cart & then apologise when she realised she put you off your shot. Once may be an accident but twice is just poor form - if you work on a golf course you should have some basic understanding of golf etiquette!
Front 9 holes took around 105 mins but the second 9 was completed in 90 mins for a total time of 3 hrs 15 mins. A course that certainly requires accuracy when you approach the green. There are signs of the course going into decline with old tattered flags on the pins & damage to cart paths not being repaired.
Overall an enjoyable course to play as long as you plot your way around & make the most of the fantastic touch screen GPS system.

Scenic course

This course has some very scenic holes with big elevation changes. The first hole is officially a warm-up hole before you get to the 1st tee. The key to this course is to keep out of the rough as the rough is thick & long. Greens run well but you can be faced with a lengthy putt on some of the bigger greens.
You need to think your way around the course & on some holes the driver should stay in the bag. Overall an enjoyable course to play but beware that once you play 18 holes before you get back to the clubhouse & the half-way house isn't always open. There was a beverage cart but we didn't see it until the 17th hole!

Course alert would have been useful

This course was close to where I was staying & appeared to be a good layout but I was disappointed when I arrived only to be told that the greens were currently being cored & sanded. Two greens were totally out of play while 4 others had been cored & sanded with just 3 untouched. At least I was given a further discount on my green fee!
Pace of play was painfully slow as the pair in front had no regard for other players behind them simply dropping a ball & playing again when they hit a bad shot [which was often!]. At one stage I thought I was watching Tin Cup as one of the players tried [unsuccessfully] 5 times to clear a water hazard - they should have taken a drop up near the hazard rather than the 80m back where they splashed the ball the first time.
The layout is interesting & there are some pretty holes with water a feature. A course marshall to keep play moving would certainly help improve the pace of play & I guess I was unlucky to strike the course during renovations.

Course in great shape

There is a marked contrast between the front & back nines. The front nine holes are generally flat & open while the back nine wind through the mountains with some spectacular views and dramatic elevation changes. The first nine holes you can simply blaze away with your shots but on the back nine much more thought is required. The course is coming back well following overseeding although the greens were still quite slow.

Scenic & challenging course in great shape

This is a course definitely worth playing. The views on most holes are incredible & even if you're not playing well the journey around the course is worth it regardless. The tips for each hole on the scorecard are definitely worth taking notice of as they are invaluable. Some holes involve dramatic elevation changes so check the tips & signs for assistance with selecting the right club. Don't forget your camera & take plenty of extra balls as it's easy to lose them on this course.

Great layout but overseeding taking place

This course was quite challenging with quite a wind blowing the day I played making the front nine holes in particular tough. The course is being prepared for overseeding with fairways cut short & green surrounds shaved back. With the wind it was quite dusty at times! The back nine is very scenic with some holes worth a picture with a great outlook across Phoenix. Greens were in good shape but overall I'd wait a couple of weeks before playing this course.

Great course worth the trip to play!

This course may be a bit out of the way but it is definitely worth the drive to play. Fairways & greens were in great shape. Some very challenging holes but luckily I played with a local who gave me a few tips about where not to go! Pace of play was great. Only current issue is that the driving range is only open at the far side which is quite a way from the 1st tee so allow extra time to warm up if you want to use the range.
