Twin Oaks Golf Course
Played On 03/21/2018Nice challenge, but way too slow
Enjoyed the course and the company, fairways were growing in well and the greens were true. However it took 5 hours and 20 minutes to play, which is totally unacceptable, and, of course no marshall to be seen anywhere. Ironically the new GPS system on the carts points how far behind you are, it gave up after 60 minutes. We were told afterwards there was a slow outing in front of us and there was nothing they could do, in fact I suspect there was nothing they dared do.
Would love to come back and play in an hour less, would have to ask the right questions first.
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa - Legends Course
Played On 03/20/2018Very Disappointing Champions Course
Greetings and the starter were fine, but the course was very disappointing. Fairways were patchy, traps everywhere with different levels of compaction. The greens had a lot of subtle turns and sadly a lot of different speeds? Talking of speeds it was slow and nobody around to do anything about it.
I think this place is living on its past and resort guests, not worth the price.
Arrowood Golf Course
Played On 03/14/2018Overall a Great Experience
Organizing a tee time with the staff was great, pro shop were helpful and the starter was a great guy. We played with 2 locals who were very helpful. Tees and greens were great and fairways were tight which made for some long drives! Really enjoyed the layout and pace of play was average but not a real issue.
The Golf Club of California
Played On 03/13/2018Needs a lot of work
Compared to courses in the same micro-climate the conditions were very poor. Tees were patchy, greens were of variable speed and bumpiness and the fairways were devoid of grass for the main part. This leads to a lot of run and given the cant on some fairways a lot of frustration. The worst value amongst a lot of local courses on UnderPar.
Pala Mesa Resort
Played On 03/12/2018Fun to Play
Got off early and a regular caught us on the first fairway which was helpful. Course conditions were pretty good compared to a "nearby" course and the greens were really good.
The Links at Summerly
Played On 03/11/2018Sad
Only cost $25 and I still feel I overpaid. The best features are the cart paths and bridges, the greens aren't too bad, the rest of the course is GUR. Looking at the course overall I have no idea how they can rebuild this place without shutting down for a year, and the cost of that is likely to be prohibitive. Sad really, could be a different challenge in the area.
Journey at Pechanga
Played On 03/09/2018A Real Journey
A really different course! The first few holes are relatively simple, then comes the journey, round the water, up the hill, down the hill etc. etc. Be prepared to lose a few balls and grow few grey hairs, but have fun. The only drawbacks is that the many long drives between greens and tees makes for a 5 hour round, which is expected apparently.
Would love to play again when we are in the area and can get a reasonable deal.
Hawk's Landing Golf Course
Played On 02/09/2017Terrible
They have 12 holes, or rather they have 12 greens and dirt. Never had a lie on a "fairway" that we didn't need to move, the traps were awful, the greens were the only decent feature. Just one person in the pro shop and cart selection.
I think it's for sale again.
Seven Hills Golf Club
Played On 02/04/2017Friendly Course with a few Challenges
Played Saturday at noon, pace of play was good, less than 4 hours. Really enjoyed the course, nothing flashy but plenty of challenge and good greens and fairways, the rough needs a lot of work. All the staff were really friendly and the rate was good, a nice place to play off the beaten track.
Legend at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 02/03/2017Storm Damage Still a Major Issue
Never a mention when we signed in but the starter told us some of the issues, but not all. Holes 1 and 10 you really have to clear the berm or you are lost. Hole 9 has water and mud everywhere. Hole 14 again mud and water before the hill and Holes 17 and 18 fairways just a mess, including a bicycle and shopping cart which had floated there!
Really should have instituted a discount, really disappointed
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Legends Course
Played On 02/01/2017Really Fast Round
Arrived a little late and hustled to the first tee where the starter said we should go quickly. That was the last person we saw until the 16th hole, not sure where everybody was! Played in 3 hours 15 minutes as a twosome.
The second hole was in a bit of a mess, after that everything was fine, greens rolled well and fast and the deep traps were a joy as ever! Really enjoyed the time there.
Providence Golf Club
Played On 12/02/2016The Good and the Bad
The good was the overall condition of the course, although the greens were pretty slow. The bad was the design of a number of holes, especially on the back nine where blind shots especially 14and 16, make life tricky for a first timer. Also yet again for this area there was over 1,000 yards between the whites and the forward tees, which is way too much. Time for a new set of tees or a hybrid course, not difficult to do.
On balance we probably won't be back, over 4h 30m to play is too long.
Highlands Reserve Golf Club
Played On 12/01/2016Slow Greens and no Refreshment on the course
A bit of a disappointment given the reviews. Got off early and soon saw a problem in terms of tee length, nothing between gold, 5600 and jade 4100, come on folks you need a 5000 or so for the ladies. Then the greens, very slow to say the least! The layout is interesting with a few trees in the way from time to time! No water on the course either in play or to drink apart from a tepid cooler.
With faster greens, more friendly tee lengths and more water on the course would maybe bring us back.....maybe.
Royal St. Cloud Golf Links - Red/White Course
Played On 11/30/2016A Fair Challenge particularly in the wind
A bit of confusion when we arrived as they have some new carts which need keys which were only available from the starter. Sadly the new carts are still gas carts.
We were paired up with a couple of fun guys and enjoyed the round despite some strong wind from time to time. The greens ran true and the fairways were in good condition, the tees had recently been reseeded.
Also not a house in sight, what a change!
Oaks National Golf Club
Played On 11/28/2016On the way to 4 stars
Played this in its previous incarnation when it was dying, decided to give them another chance after reading the recent reviews. New club house, friendly reception and new carts was a good start.
The greens are great, the fairways patchy but acceptable but the tees are in general poor. Around the greens was a general problem, approaches had been overwatered and stopped most pitch shots from reaching the green and lots of weeds around the rest of the green.
The cart paths have too many major holes which will quickly lead to damaged carts, they need patching.
Overall a good start and I am sure things will improve as they have made a great start.
Harmony Golf Preserve
Played On 11/27/2016Great course but really slow
Course was challenging and in great condition and the staff were really friendly. Wish I could say the same about some of the players and the rate of play. It took our foursome almost 5 hours to play behind a threesome of below average golfers. We waited on almost every shot even though there was room in front of them and they complained we were too close.
Only later did we work out that they were told on the first tee to wait until the group in front were on the green and they thought that was for all the holes!
Timacuan Golf Club
Played On 11/26/2016Really Good Course, strange arrangements
Played on a Saturday morning, first they lost our tee time, despite taking our money, then they announced there was a member tournament happening and there would be a long delay on the first tee. After some discussion one of the starters sent us to the 10th tee, which was wide open. We saw nobody for 6 holes and then found a five some who, it turned out, were playing cross country, from different tees to different greens. We watched in amazement for the rest of the back nine! Thankfully they did not play after that!
Now for the course, in really nice condition and a fair challenge, the water doesn't come into play as much as you would think. Greens were slower than claimed but ran well. Finished in 3hr 30 mins. which was good, by then the course was empty.
San Vicente Golf Resort
Played On 03/15/2015Fun Course but Slow
Took 5 hours behind a five some, nobody around to do anything about it. Also the two some behind us hit into us twice as we waited for the green to clear.
Course was in reasonable condition but a lot of unfixed ball marks on the green.
La Vista/El Cielo at Desert Princess Country Club
Played On 03/12/2015Nice course with some quirks
Played all three nines over two days. Most of the holes run between houses with long distances from green to tee, some are enormous. Also there are a few links like holes on Vista and one on Ciello which are fun to play, but VERY different and miles from anywhere.
Overall fun to play, mostly up to time except our last nine which took more than two and a half hours.
Arrowhead Country Club
Played On 03/11/2015Sad State of Affairs
Played here last year via PCN and played again this spring. Sadly the course has been put up for sale and the condition has deteriorated, particularly the fairways. Very thin grass everywhere. What a pity as it is a really challenging layout.
Thin grass in the fairways.. Try not swinging so steep. Take some lessons so your divots aren't the size of the grand canyon.
play here quite often. since over seeding last fall fairways are great.
Greens are smooth. membership is not very friendly. They make you feel like you are walking on egg shells. Probably a good thing it is for sale. If you can't play fast then this is not for you. 3 hours rounds the norm. Now a semi private course. Fees are quite high on Holidays and weekends.
Everyone who has played the course recently loved it and the conditions.... if the course is to long for you from the white tees move up and play the red tees...
