Cotuit HighGround Country Club
Played On 11/19/2019Decent executive-style course
Mostly par 3s, some very short, with tiny greens. A good place to go if you're just looking to play a quick 9 in 60-90 minutes. Not a great golf course, but it's not supposed to be. A great place to practice your short irons or teach young kids how to play golf. Greens aren't great, but again, that's not the purpose. It's just a fun little walk with 9 short holes along the way. And very reasonably priced and almost always open if the grass is showing.
Quashnet Valley Country Club
Played On 11/04/2019A hidden gem on Cape Cod
I love this place. Doesn't play long given the yardage, but very interesting layout. Front 9 is more woods and marsh, while back 9 is more traditional parkland on most holes. Greens are always outstanding. A low-key alternative to some of the higher-priced courses on Route 151, and just as good a test of golf.
Holly Ridge Golf Club
Played On 10/23/2019A very nice par-3 course
18 real par 3 holes; NOT a pitch and putt. This is a real golf course that just happens to be all par 3s. Meanders through the woods. Nice greens. Holes vary from 100-200 yards. A great place to work on your irons and get a round in in around 2 hours.
Willowbend Country Club - Bog Nine
Played On 10/15/2019Nice private course, but gimmicky
Willowbend is a private course with three 9's (Bay, Bend and Bog), each with very different designs. Greens were in great shape. Course a bit too gimmicky for me. For example, first hole has huge pine tree dead center of fairway 220 yards out. 4th hole is like trying to hit a sidewalk off the tee. 3rd, 6th and 8th holes take driver out of your hands due to layout. Interesting, but a bit contrived for me. Critical to play the right tees for your handicap.
