Visually stunning - perfect conditions !

Prior to playing this course I ALMOST let the overall 3.4 rating sway me from playing it. Thankfully, I relied on past experience with inaccurate ratings to guide me to give it a shot. The fairways were perfect , ( you can’t get a bad lie!) the greens were quick and true. Bunkers were consistent . The fairways were generous and every other hole is a postcard ! Yes it was a five hour round but just more time to take pictures and replay the previous hole with playing partners ! I’ve played 48 of the golf digest top 100 in the country and believe me - you don’t want to pass this one up !

Beautiful course - tough greens !

Our group of 12 60 something year olds played this course at about 6500 yards. Our handicaps on a fairly tough course in Texas ranged from 6-12. Not a single one us broke 90 ! The pins that day were extremely challenging considering the speed and undulations. If we played again we would absolutely play from 6100 yards , have more wedges in,which hopefully would allow us a chance to put the ball below the hole somehow ! None of this is a knock on the course - it’s a beauty but will make you pay for indifferent shots / putts ! Go play !

Fun day at Carter Plantation

A group of 12 guys played here as part of our annual golf trip. Very nice , fair layout with really challenging greens. Good conditions in the fairways and around the greens. Minimal rough; some of the tees were a little ragged but not unplayable. The course was full that day but we played in 4:15; bunkers had a lot of footprints and unraked. Not a reflection on the golf course but on some of the people playing! We stayed in the villas on location and they were fabulous ! Huge clean and comfortable rooms. Walked 5 minutes to the grill for dinner.

All the greens need are windmills and clown noses!

I can’t imagine anyone giving this course 5 stars; even 4 stars is a stretch. The conditions are good, the layout is average but the greens are a complete joke! It’s as though the designer thought, well I can’t figure out how to provide any challenge with shot values, so I’ll just make half of the greens pure luck to two putt much less one putt. Who in their right mind would be a member here and pay to play here on a regular basis. So many wonderful golf options in Michigan, don’t waste your time and money here! We had 16 guys on our golf trip and voted UNANIMOUSLY to not return to this course.

Beautiful course with plenty of challenges

Played this course for the first time recently in a senior tournament. I had heard a lot of good things about the course and it didn’t disappoint. Greens had been top dressed recently but still rolled ok. Fun layout with a few long par fours mixed in with a bunch of 350 yard holes and one that was 270 ( from senior tees). No houses on the course which always scores points in my ratings. I’d highly recommend playing this course!

Course not ready to play yet

As other reviewers stated , the greens are currently almost unplayable. A beautiful layout but the condition of the greens really ruins the experience. They have a long way to go before they get back to where they need to be ! We played The Quarry and The Bandit after this course and both were in very nice shape !

Fun course!

We booked a tee time here with another couple on a Saturday afternoon. The pro shop guy who checked us in was super friendly ! The wives are pretty much beginners so this course was great for them- not much water and no bunkers! The layout was good- decent variety of holes. Greens were very moderate speed. Will definitely play this course next time we are visiting the area.

Beautiful course in great condition !

Played this course Wednesday at 10:15 am with the wife and another couple using our Club Corp privileges. The driving range was a bit of a disappointment - very narrow range with nets lining both sides, hitting off mats, and range balls pretty shoddy. However ,once we got on the course, we forgot about all of that. The course is lined with trees / brush and most of the holes are isolated from the rest. The fairways were lush - almost to a fault as you don’t get much run out from your tee shot. This makes the course play longer than the stated yardage. The bunkers were consistent and well maintained. The greens were a decent speed - looked like they were recovering a bit from a recent aeration / top dressing but still rolled nicely. Pace of play was excellent as we played in right at 4 hours even with a couple of high handicappers in the group. I would rate this course slightly higher than East Lake Woodlands North course.which is also Club Corp. Go play if you are in the area!

Fun course, great condition

Four of us made the trip to Gus Wortham for the first time yesterday. We came away impressed by the beauty of the course as well as the condition of the fairways and greens. It’s a fairly short course at 6400 yards from the back tees, but there are several holes which require long approaches into the green. This course is as good if not better than many of the “ high end” daily fee courses such as Blackhorse and Cypresswood. The facilities are minimal and no beverage cart on the course, so consider taking something to drink out there with you. Our foursome played in 3.5 hours and the course was pretty much empty. It’s kind of off the beaten track, but definitely worth the drive. We are planning a return trip out there within the next couple of months.

Fun course - good condition

Played The Bandit with 7 other guys today for the first time. Staff was friendly upon on arrival. Saw the Marshall numerous times out on the course- he even helped one of our guys find an errant shot in some high rough. We played one set up of tees up from the back tees - about 6400 yards. Several fairly long par threes and medium length par 4’s mixed in with a few 320-350 yard holes. The course is pretty open from the tee for the most part so plenty of room for hitting driver. Greens were about average speed for a public course. Fairways were decent - didn’t really have any bad lies in the fairway all day. The tee sheet was booked solid in the morning so the round took 4.5 hours. You get to hit a lot of the clubs in your bag, but open enough where you don’t get beat up on wayward shots.

Beautiful course and demanding!

This is a beautiful course that is challenging without beating you up. Our day started out with a warm up session on the range that was stocked with Pro V 1 practice balls. It only got better from there ! Good blend of dogleg left and right holes and well laid out par 3s. Pick the proper tees for your handicap level and you’ll enjoy your round! The greeens were not super fast but a decent speed. Fairways were above average and rough was minimal. Friendly staff and good on course service from beverage cart gals. Highly recommend the whole facility.

Challenging course but playable if you hit it straight !

I’ve played this course numerous times and it presents different challenges each time you play it ! The wind swirls in different directions and speeds daily and pin placements range from accessible to near impossible ! The greens are a nice speed and true. Plenty of water and OB and pampas bushes to grab errant tee shots. One of the most challenging 6500 yard courses you will play. Always in great shape. If you have a good driving day you can make a lot of pars and have some birdie chances.

Great day on the North course

The wife and I played the North course at 11:30 Sunday morning and had a great experience. The course was in fantastic shape with the greens rolling 10 plus on the stimp. Fairways were in decent shape for this early in the season. Nice blend of long and short holes as well as doglegs left and right. Lot of water on the course but much of it is lateral and not that many forced carries. If you like to hit a few drivers before your round, get there a little early. There is a “ short range” right near the pro shop which limits you to shots of 150 yards or less. The longer range is about a 5 minute cart ride away. I will definitely play this course again next trip to the Tampa area.

Very nice hidden gem in Dunedin

Played this course on 3/29/19 and was pleasantly surprised. Greens were rolling around a ten and putting true. Small rounded greens typical of Donald Ross. Nice belend of long and short par 4’s make the course play longer than the stated yardage. Would highly recommend this track if you are in the area.
