Princeton Country Club
Played On 10/10/2018Nice public course
You will see plenty of reviews right now stating that the course is not in good shape. No doubt it has been beaten up by the extremes in our weather over the last six months - either soaking wet or hot, hot, hot. SEVERAL area courses have dealt with the same thing.
To me, it seemed obvious that Princeton/Mercer County Golf is trying hard to get the course back in great shape. I found some holes to be in terrible shape (maybe three to four holes), several in adequate shape and a handful in fine/excellent condition.
This was my first time playing Princeton and I walked it. At age 56 I haven't walked a course in a good ten years. This was a joy.and pleasure. Overcast, temps ranged between 70 and 80 during my round - and it was a great walk in the park.
Princeton is not overly long, but you will be challenged to keep your shots straight off the tee and out of the trees. I didn't excel at that today, but was generally able to recover whenever I hit a wayward shot by punching right back out and forward onto the fairway.
I will return for sure and will enjoy seeing the course improve once we get past this season we've had. It will be a regular part of my course rotation from now on.
Cranbury Golf Club
Played On 10/04/2018Becoming a cow pasture
This place used to be good for a nice, fairly easy round. A year ago the course was in wonderful shape. Now??? Not even close. They're now on their 3rd manager since the previous manager resigned last November, and the place is getting run down quickly. The bar/restaurant has become mediocre at best - and the food used to be outstanding.
The golf course though is really beaten up. Fairways have large (and growing) grassless patches. Tee boxes are fair at best. Most of the greens were in decent to good shape, but too many have clear circles/markings from previous hole placements.
So much potential, but it just isn't good right now. Hopefully the latest manager will kick it up a notch or three
Cream Ridge Golf Club
Played On 04/01/2018Nice public course
Over the last 12 months, I've played at Cream Ridge a few times. Course is always in good to great shape - today was a good day, but that's only because it is April 1 and we have had tons of storms in the area over the last few weeks. They're going to be in really good shape within a few weeks - no doubt.
We played Easter Sunday in overcast, breezy to windy, mid-50s conditions - making for a very quick moving round with no crowd whatsoever.
After the round - couple of beers and appetizers at the bar, and the service was excellent, as was the food (pub grub!).
Great day overall, and we'll be back
