Great Value!

The course is a great value especially with the current winter rates, $30 with a cart on a Saturday morning is hard to beat! The course is in great shape for January, although it doesn’t drain very well so if there’s a lot of rain the night before prepare for soaked conditions. Staff friendly and helpful. Some fun holes and not super challenging, they have a full size driving range to warm up too. Will definitely play again!

Conditions really good for December 28th. Pace of play was great, really nice golf carts. Very happy with the winter rate of $50 for a before noon tee time.

Only played here because all of the courses in Monmouth County were closed from last weeks snow storm, was just happy to be out on the course on Christmas Eve. Course was in bad shape, dirt for tee boxes, muddy fairways, and bumpy greens. I’ll give them a pass on this though considering it’s December. Pace of play was BRUTAL, almost 5 hours. Course is horribly managed, for some reason they allowed a 5some to go out in front of my 3some and in front of them was 4some all 70+ and walking. All of this at 10am, how is this allowed to happen at all, let alone this early in the day. I will say the kids running the place were nice and friendly. No staff/ranger on the course to keep it moving either. Will only be back in the winter time if this is the only course open again.

Has been in better shape

Granted it’s December and the course has gotten a ton of play this year, but the course was not in great shape. Tee boxes were rough (especially the 8th) and the greens were crappy, fairways were decent though. Fun course to play, nice having the NYC skyline as the back drop most holes. Friendly and organized staff.

Disappointing for $75.

Played here a couple times over the summer and thought $75 was fair, but for November I thought $75 was overpriced. Most courses in the area have shifted to off-season pricing, so that would be appreciated here. Especially when the greens were just aerated and sanded, yet no mention of this when booking, $75 was too much for the conditions of the course. Staff is friendly, golf carts are very nice with gps yardage, and drinks at the restaurant were reasonable for being a club. The starter also seemed like he was juggling too much. Tee sheet was packed yet only one guy was checking in, assigning carts, and running the first tee. Ended up having multiple groups on the first tee thinking they were up. Pace of play always brutal, expect a 5 hour round on the weekends, no rangers around to keep it moving. Won't be back at these rates for the current conditions.

Excellent!

Never played here until November, was always tempted to try it in the Summer but rates were expensive, now I understand why. Grabbed a just after 12pm tee time on a Monday for $53 including cart, the course was in phenomenal condition played Pines & Links. Fun to play, and it was empty so my two-some played 18 in just over 3 hours, not the norm for sure but really enjoyed that pace. No on course bar service, but to be expected on a Monday in November. The employee running the bag drop and carts was super friendly and welcoming, starter was kind of a jerk though. Tried sending us out 25 minutes early as soon as we showed up, didn’t like being rushed and wanted to take my time and be ready for our scheduled tee time. So of course when it was time for us to go he acted too busy to let us know what 9’s we were playing, also had a snide remark about “being the last ones on the course” when we came back in at 4pm. Everything outside of the starter was great, at these off season prices will be back for sure.

You Get What You Pay For

Fun but not very challenging layout, always feel like the course is a little too long from the blues (especially on the par 3’s) and a little too short from the whites. Course conditions are sub par though, the greens are cut like fairways and fairways are like the first cut on a well maintained course; but for $40 with a cart this is to be expected. Biggest gripe is the pace of play, somehow the 1st tee is always backed up and “running 15 minutes behind” how does that even happen? Poor management by the starter. Due to cheap rates and not a ton of other public options in the area this course is booked up by a lot of beginners and people who are oblivious of etiquette and playing ready golf. No ranger on the course to keep it moving. Wish they would increase time between tee times, 8 minute times puts too many groups on the course especially when it attracts lower quality golfers. Staff is always friendly, and love the convenience of having Maggie’s right there for post round drinks. Good place to play with your friends that aren’t serious golfers. At the end of the day 18 holes with a cart for $40 is tough to beat, even if you’re dealing with slow play and rough course conditions.

Overpriced

I got a hot deal time so I only paid $50 with a cart which was fair for the condition this course is in; had I paid the normal price I would’ve been very disappointed. Majority of the greens are in really bad shape, dead grass and pot holes. Fairways okay but the tee boxes had a lot of dirt, although the layout of the course was kind of fun. Pace of play was very slow, just under 5 hours for 18 holes. Course was full if new golfers in their 20’s, not a place to play on Saturday afternoon if you’re a real golfer who likes to play “ready golf“. I will say the staff at this course was very friendly and there’s a bar/restaurant right next to the club house for some post round drinks. Not on my never again list, but I won’t be rushing back to this course.

Decent value for the cost

Paid $52 with a cart for a “hot deal” tee time at 11:08am which I found to be more than fair for this course. Not the nicest course in the area, but the greens were in fantastic shape. Not super challenging or very long, easy to shoot a good round here. Nice that they have a driving range to warm up on. Will definitely play again!

Disappointing for the price, will not play again

I guess I should preface this review with I'm a high 80's to low 90's golfer who likes to play "ready golf" and was on a 12:20 tee time on Father's Day so a slow round is to be expected. The "starter" (18 year old kid) lets back to back two-somes go out at 12 & 12:10, when on a busy day they should've been combined into a four-some to eliminate a group from the course. Caught up to the two-some ahead of us on the 3rd hole while they were playing 2 balls each hitting them 40 yards per swing, and thought it was reasonable to stop for the cart girl while we were standing on the tee box. Road their tail the entire 4th hole, got fed up when we pulled up to the 5th tee and they were waiting for the 2-some in front of them to tee off. Wouldn't it make sense to combine and be a 4-some at that point? Same thing happened on the 6th hole, finally flagged down the "ranger" who was a 21 year old kid, voiced our complaints and suggestion, he at least addressed the situation with both 2-somes but came back to say "they don't want to combine, but the 2 in front of you will let you play through". Okay at least got past a group, but shouldn't the "ranger" not ask them to combine, but tell them hey you're holding up the whole course your now a 4-some. Slowly play 7-8-9, get to the 10th and there's legit 5 groups on hole 10. 1 on the green, 1 on the fairway, 1 at the ladies tee's, 1 at the white/blue tees, and then my 3-some debating to go home or not. Said screw it and just drove past everyone to jump on hole 11 and played the last 8 holes in 90 minutes, in fact we caught the 11:20 group on the 18th hole who tee'd off an hour before us. At least the "ranger" was cool about us going back to play the 10th that we skipped after finishing the 18th. While doing so had to maneuver our carts past the Staten Island Yo's having a parking lot party with their leased Bentley's, real nice touch and proof that there's absolutely ZERO management at this course. If you are a real golfer, regardless of what you shoot, the pace of play and nonsense at this place will make you pull your hair out.

Bottom line: Only play here if you decide to play the night before and everything else is booked. The green's were awful with potholes and were what you see at a county owned executive course. 33% of the tee boxes were dirt, 50% of the sand traps had rocks, and 3 of the holes were cart path only due to massive fairway repairs. Without any true adults/professionals running the place it's a clown show. For $75 with a cart on a weekend prime-time rate you'll get much better value for your money at Knob Hill or any of the Monmouth County courses. Will not play again.

Excellent value, Best semi-private course in Monmouth Co.

Really gained an appreciation for Knob Hill after playing Sun Eagles in Eatontown/Ft Monmouth. For the same exact price on a prime-time Sunday tee time with a cart Knob Hill is in another league than Sun Eagles. At Knob pace of play is always decent, course conditions are always fantastic, and the course is ran by adult professionals. It's the exact opposite at Sun Eagles. Add on the touch screen computer on the carts at Knob that give you the distance to the hole and it's a no brainer. If you're going to spend $75 on a round of golf make sure you do it here.

Good experience

Starter was super friendly and accommodating when one of our friends was running late. Watch out for the neighbors along the 1st hole, got very nasty when one of us accidentally hit a ball off their house (no damage), lady was cursing and videoing and called the cops. Not sure what she was expecting when she bought a house 20 yards from the 1st green. Course was in fantastic shape, pace of play was great until the back 9, had 3 groups on the same hole a couple times, no ranger at all to keep it moving along. While I thought $60 was more then fair for 18 holes cart included, it’d be nice to see rates a little cheaper during “twilight” after 3pm. Will be back for sure!
