Overpriced Dog Track

Played August 8, 2020. Originally reserved a $45 walking rate but found the UnderPar deal and had $20 off UnderPar gift card so it brought it to $35 with a cart. Very glad I did not pay $45 plus a cart to play here. They probably list it as a walking rate on purpose, to drive more eyeballs/traffic to the bookings, but it still is not worth that. Greens have many, many ball marks. Even though it was a Saturday, you could tell some were old ball marks as well. The greens also have a lot of weed/fungus growing in/on them, resulting in a lot of inconsistent rolls. The bunkers are terrible, rock hard most times. Tee boxes had a lot of divots for the most part and were not particularly level. Hole #6 from the Blues, the tee box was not even mowed within at least a couple days or even a week, you were teeing up next to weeds that were as tall as your ball teed up. The fairways were dry, and inconsistent. The rough was the same and lots of bare areas as well. Shame that this course used to host the NCAA Western Tournament just several years ago and now it's in this shape.

Good twilight rate

Course is in good shape since they cut the rough down. Fun time. Greens definitely need the most work tho. Slow greens and They roll pretty good, but you can see all the divots and some raised grass from scuffs.

Good Condition, Needs Divots Fixed

Greens roll nice and true lines. Not bumpy at all but lots of divots that need filling or fixed. Did not see a single Marshall the whole time. All in all a good time

My new favorite course in the RGV

Played this course for $35 twilight (starts at 3pm). Includes a cart and all the golf you can play.

You could tell the course recently flooded last week from some of the leftover debris due to the huge amount of rain, but it wasn't really noticeable and overall the course was in great shape! Only a few areas marked off as still wet. Teeing off at 4pm the greens were a little hard but still rolled nicely.

Since I played right after a shotgun start tournament, I had no one in front or behind me which made for a really enjoyable time. The front 9 has houses along most of it but there's plenty of room in case you hook or slice a ball not to hit one.

City Park pretending to be a golf course

This is the doggiest of of dog tracks I've ever seen or played in the entire country! Like another user stated, lack of signage make it hard to even find the first tee. The course set-up is super confusing because of the lack of signage and different tee boxes. The course is tightly squished together and it feels that way. Patches of missing grass on the greens and just playground grass cut at somewhat a different length for rough and fairways.

The club house is another story, it looked and smelled like the 1970s!

Twilight was $15 for golf and the cart. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DONT GOLF HERE. SPEND $5 more and go to Monte Cristo for a real golf course and not a city park.

The City of Edinburg seriously needs to shut this place down and do a thorough renovation and redesign. Or just save some money, put the park benches, and a play ground in and call it a city park.

Great Drainage, Good Greens

I played this two days after they received over 5 inches of rain that caused them to close the day before. 2 days removed from a major rain storm and the course only had 1, maybe 2 puddles that I could recall. It rained pretty good while I was on holes 3&4 but still no puddles on the course.

I will say, the front 9 greens were way more consistent than the back 9. But overall they were in good shape! 7.5 out of 10. Had a great time, friendly staff. Of only they had new facilities. The clubhouse smelled throughout the entire building and the driving range needs a revamp.

Nickle and Dime Prices During Twilight

BLUF: If you want to play a cheaper Twilight rate, don't come here. Pro Shop will nickle and dime you with fee's and you'll be playing through the sprinklers, even as you try to putt.

I have never had a poor experience here before, especially from the Pro Shop staff. But after this experience, I'll be hard pressed to return, especially if the certain gentleman running the Pro Shop this day is there again.

We arrived around 530pm. Normally a $26 Twilight rate that includes a cart, and even says it on the receipt. But the Pro Shop would not let myself and my buddy ride solo without an additional fee. If this was 7am, I would understand....but not when its 530pm on a slow weekday and that cart has already been recycled from earlier (aka you made your money on the cart already).

After paying the additional fee (In theory, I now paid for the whole cart), we returned to our vehicles in the parking lot to pick up our golf bags and wives. Just trying to have a nice little outing to enjoy ourselves after work, but here comes the Pro Shop gentleman in his cart...he now staes that we there is a passenger fee since our wives are there but that he "was doing us a favor and not going to charge us". So then why come out to the parking lot to tell us you wanted to charge me ANOTHER FEE, basically for another HALF cart. I already paid for the full cart. Had we not already bought the other half of the cart....I would understand and would have paid the passenger fee.

It was completely unprofessional and very distasteful. We are trying to introduce our wives to the game of golf, (they didn't play, but instead explaining the game as we go with rules) and this gentleman acts like this.

After all of this happened, we had to play the entire round with the sprinklers on throughout the course, even playing through them or waiting for them to turn away from our golf balls so we could hit. UNBELIEVABLE.

Overall condition of the course was pretty good given the heat, but if you're going to water the course. Turn of the timers and do it by hand behind the golfers.

Saturday Twilight

Was lucky to play after a tournament finished up. Played by myself in just 2 hours and 25 minutes. Nobody in front or behind me. It was $27 for twilight with a cart. Front 9 is surrounded by homes but not overly tight. Back 9 has some good challenges up front but opens up down the stretch. Greens were dormant but in good condition. Fairways in pretty good condition as well. Look forward to my next round here.
