Surprisingly good!

I chose this course for 2 reasons, it’s the only 9 hole course I haven’t walked in San Diego County. (I had a weight loss inspired goal of walking every 9 hole course in SD.) 2nd reason is it was the only golf course open on my birthday during a pandemic. Well it was well worth the 1 hr 45 minute drive. The fairways and greens were in immaculate shape. Green but firm. Even if you miss the fairway the “rough” was pretty well manicured. I like a 9 hole course that allows you to use every club and even though it’s 9 holes you only have two that are Par 3’s. On one par 5 I was rewarded with my longest drive ever. 312 yards! The staff was friendly if not knowledgeable. I was pleased to see a SCGA terminal there to enter your score and maintain my handicap but when I asked the woman at the counter where the keyboard or mouse was she said she had no idea what that was for. I’m going to assume the key board and mouse were hidden due to safety concerns just as the cups were upside down and the bunkers were missing rakes. But that actually made me feel safer. My only complaint is the only food seems limited to a fridge at the tiny pro shop and an assortment of snacks. Never saw a cart lady but the layout of the course made up for that. Had doglegs right, doglegs left. And straight ahead shots. The 18th has a water hazard so all in all a good variety of holes. I highly recommend it and plan to come back with an RV one day and spend the weekend.

Quirky but challenging course.

I play a lot of Golf and I like playing 9 hole courses but a lot of them are just Pitch N putts. Not this course only 2 par 3’s. The rest are good sized Par 4’s and 5’s. But i’ve never heard of this course. I feel like I found a hidden gem. I didn't know what to expect when I pulled up but there was a beautiful clubhouse. The staff were super friendly. I asked the friendly woman at the pro shop and she said building the new clubhouse has raised its profile but it's just a little local course for people who live in the area and its all word of mouth. She said it's a tough course because there are water hazards that are forced carries and ”trees where there shouldn't be” I thought that last remark odd until I got to the 5th hole. More on that in a bit. I thought it’d be a slow course but the course was packed. There is a working starter who grouped us together. And he was very friendly, at no time were people waiting for us to play through. But we were waiting on half the tees for a fivesome in front of us that seemed to take a long time to find their balls. Total time for 9 holes was 2 hrs and 17 minutes. The three regulars I got grouped with said it was unusually busy for a Sunday but most days the course is not that busy. So that 5th hole? I. Get to the tee and the regulars are waiting for my reaction. There is a huge Cypress tree smack dab in front of the 5th hole. Reminds me of the green monster on the 7th hole at National City. You have to hit a high shot to get it over that tree, and it's a 500-yard par 5. One person hit it over the tree. His two older partners just aimed to the right of the tree and had a 2nd shot that left an angled approach shot to the green. I thought I Was up to the challenge. Hit a high driver shot that appeared to get sucked in by a tractor beam the tree emits. We all saw something come straight down but none of us could find the ball. So I had to drop. They said yeah that tree keeps the balls sometimes. Quirky little golf course, My one complaint would be the course conditions. I've seen much worse and much better, most of the course is in good shape. But some of the greens were really rough with cracks in the grass that left dirt strips you have to pug through. Apparently, there were some water issues in the past. But most of the greens are maintained and fast. It should be noted that many fairways have 2 sets if tees so you play through a 2nd nine it will be different. Also they are SCGA accredited with a terminal to input your score. The grill seemed very popular with the locals. I had a breakfast burrito. It was good but not as good as the Lona Club breakfast burrito, All in all a fun quirky 9 hole course that allows you to play every club in your bag.

This course is unplayable

I keep seeing this course pop up but never hear anything about it. I drive by it and it has signage so I figured I’d try it out. I phoned them and the person at the counter was like yes 8 am your all set. I show up and I find a completely unplayable course. I don’t understand how a major company like Sheraton can neglect their papery so much. When I show up she say yes if you have your own clubs you can play for free. Even at that price it’s a waste of time. It’s completely unplayable. Sheraton should be ashamed.

Great value, great clubhouse

This is my favorite 9 hole course in San Diego. I can usually play in 1 to 1-1/2 hrs. The course is in great shape with fast, challenging greens. All par 3’s. Longest of which is 203 yards. Great for beginners, kids or golfers working on their short game. The clubhouse has super friendly staff and the BEST Breakfeast burrito you will ever have. Also a good selection of beers. Great short game practice area. The only negative I have is the “driving range” is just a few mats and a net about 10 feet in front of you. But I come back again and again because of the staff, the well maintained greens and fairways and the staff...and that breakfast burrito. Also all the Salad dressings are made in house by the chef.
