Rough but Playable
After reading all the negative reviews on Moss Creek, I decided to play the course as a lark. I expected that I wouldn't play the entire round and just check out the remnants of a formerly nice course.
What I found was a course in mostly playable condition. The front nine was in better shape than the back. Even on the back, I didn't run into anything unplayable. The tee boxes weren't much different from your run-of-the-mill lower tier public course. Fairways were a shade higher than normal. Greens were very slow, but the bare patches other reviews have talked about were very minimal-most greens didn't have them.
I recommended it, but with the stipulation that you roll the ball on the fairway and take relief from the (mostly) unplayable bunkers.
The course is what it is. A very nice layout in below average conditions but worth the play because of the layout, extremely fast pace of play and the low cost. I hope that Moss Creek continues on the road back and gets to the next level soon.
Harbor Links at Sagamore Resort
Played On 10/21/2015Tremendous Experience
I first played Harbor Springs on October 21st and have been back twice since. The layout/design is nothing short of spectacular. It is a very challenging course but isn't exceptionally tight or tricked up. It requires many different types of shots (some of which I don't have. LOL) and forces a player to use most of his clubs during his round.
The 11th hole is nothing short of spectacular. #14 is one of the most interesting holes which I've ever played. Each hole brings something to the table which gives it a special feel. The architect, PB Dye, did a wonderful job on this project.
The course is exceptionally well maintained as well. The plentiful wildlife and glorious views were additional bonuses.
It's a long drive, but a scenic one for me to get to this course. The quick pace of play along with the wonderful experience of playing this grand layout made the drive well worthwhile. I'll make it out to this course on a regular basis from this point on.
Dearborn Country Club
Played On 09/24/2015Well Conditioned Course
This was my second round at Dearborn CC. The course was in very good shape in all respects. The course is very hilly and be prepared for some tricky lies. It's also a tract where it's essential to have experience on a few of the holes. #7 is brutal for the first time player. Have fun on that one!!
Three of the four par 3s are really exceptional holes. Once again, experience is vital in club selection on these.
I played during the week and I could have finished my round in 2 hours had I wanted. The only real issue I had with the course was the condition of the cart paths in certain spots. Take it easy on the downhill paths!
Deer Track Golf Course
Played On 08/25/2015More Positives than Negatives
As many of the other recent Golf Now reviews have stated, many of the fairways are not in the best of shape. However, there are quite a few that are in good to excellent condition. I just played lift and place when I had a bare lie in a fairway.
It had been years since I'd played at Deer Track. I had forgotten what an outstanding layout it is! Almost every hole has a distinctive feel to it. It's not a boring course or cookie cutter design in any way.
I had an enjoyable time and shall definitely return to Deer Track.
Vineyard Golf Course
Played On 08/21/2015Nice course in a relaxed setting
I enjoyed my first round at The Vinyard. The staff was very friendly and the course was in decent shape with the exception of a few of the tee boxes. The greens rolled true and were in great shape, though a bit on the slow side.
The layout was interesting and provided a good mix of easy and difficult holes for an average golfer like me. I plan to return soon.
Indian Ridge Golf Club
Played On 07/29/2015Back From the Dead!!
What a difference a few months and some serious commitment can make. The course known as Indian Ridge has come back to life. The imposter course known by the same name over the past several years is officially dead!!
The greens were in absolutely superb condition.....fast and true. The fairways, with the exception of a patch here and there, were more than acceptable. Tee boxes were good as well.
Staff was very friendly and were "all in" on the process of fully restoring Indian Ridge. There were at least 5 workers on the course restoring bunkers-a project which has already restored a significant number on the course.
The course was very playable and an exceptional bargain for the price that I paid on Golf Now. I will be returning over and over again.
Elks 797 Golf Club
Played On 09/08/2014Great Course for Average Player
Course was in very good condition. Greens in superb shape.
A fun course for an average player like me. Many of the holes allowed for short iron second shots. The par 5s were all reachable-though I didn't reach them! The course does have quite a few very challenging holes. The short water par 3 hole 12 is a neat golf hole. 16 is a very difficult par 4-par is a great score on that one.
Quick pace of play, great conditions, nice layout at a great price. What's not to like?
Eagles Nest Golf Course
Played On 08/19/2014Very nice and well-conditioned layout
Eagle's Nest was a very good experience for me. The course had a good mix of difficult and easier holes. The greens were in outstanding shape and rolled very true.
Each hole had an area in which trouble could be found but had plenty of room for a moderate miss hit to be playable. There was a good mix of open holes and "treed" holes.
The staff was very friendly. My experience at Eagle's Nest was very positive and I'll be back for another round in the near future.
Colonial Pines Golf Club
Played On 07/21/2014Fun, Quirky Course
The staff of the facility was outstanding. Tom gave me a great history of the course. Very interesting.
I was given a course guide which was indispensable for me as a first time player at Colonial Pines. This is a course for which course knowledge is a huge advantage. The course guide was very well written and allowed me to enjoy my first go round at CP.
It's neat little course which doesn't require long drives to enjoy and score. Plenty of trouble awaits the wayward dive.
Holes 15-17 are all very short and almost reachable par 4s. I had a blast playing them.
It was worth the drive out. I'll be back again.
Hi, u000004897834,
Thank you so much for taking the time to play our course and to provide your comments. We are so happy to hear that you had an enjoyable experience!
We also appreciate your feedback regarding our fairways. After a very rainy summer, we are battling our course's drainage system in conjunction with a lot of water and heat from late July and early August- it did not bode well for our fairways! Our fabulous superintendent has been improving the course's drainage system hole-by-hole for the past 5 years, and will continue making improvements to ensure our fairways do not suffer the same damage that our rainy summers have caused over the past several seasons. While we wish that this could be done quickly, the project does involve various phases spread out over several years. We are very much looking forward to the final product!
We kindly ask that you stick with us and continue to play our course to see the improvements unfold! Thank you for your business!
Best,
The Deer Track Staff
