Championship at Hollybrook Golf & Tennis Club
Played On 08/02/2018Course has bounced back nicely
Hollybrook conditions had slipped quite a bit as of a year ago, but the weather and TLC have combined to bring the turf back up to snuff. Greens are very good now. Bunkers are a little thin but playable. I really like this track, especially the variety of holes on the back 9. They give you a small ice chest, which comes in darn handy as there is no beverage cart. There are a couple of ice/water stations out on the course, however.
Misty Creek Country Club
Played On 04/13/2017Cool layout
Good greens and an interesting layout. Lack of rain/irrigation has fairways a little thin, but on the plus side plenty of roll for driver. Great staff.
Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/28/2017Poor conditioning
This old Donald Ross track has never been in real good condition over past 5 years (at least), but it's particularly sad right now. Greens weedy and bumpy, fairways thin. Too bad, because it's an interesting layout.

The city of Hollywood has allowed this place to become a joke of a golf course. It's basically a goat pasture with pins scattered around it. Don't bother. It will most likely become yet more condos soon enough.
Pines at Woodmont Country Club
Played On 03/07/2017Fast greens
The greens make the course worth playing. Fairways are not weedy but they're thin. Par 5s are strategic as opposed to long.
West at Jacaranda Golf Club
Played On 09/14/2015One of the best in the area
Jacaranda West is always in terrific condition. It's challenging but fair. The greens are excellent. The staff is very professional. Highly recommended when you're in the greater Fort Lauderdale area.
East at Woodlands Country Club
Played On 06/22/2015Worth a try
The front-nine greens on the East course are as good as any around, firm and fast. The back nine are not quite as good, but still fine. Fairways could use a tighter mow but have good turf.
Cypress at Palm-Aire Country Club
Played On 05/03/2015Not bad
This course is a good bargain at $25 or less. NIce layout.
Royal/Sabal at Grand Palms Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/16/2015Skip it this year
Perhaps this place will bounce back, but only about 4 greens offered a decent chance to make a putt. Not exaggerating. We played the Grand/Royal combo. Lack of grass and bumpy dirt on most greens. Turf in fairways is hit-and-miss (no pun intended), as are the tee boxes. Needs lots of TLC.
River Bend Golf Club
Played On 10/04/2014Nice track
This course is unusual for the area, given that it has somewhat varied terrain, with some slight but noticeable elevation changes. Fairways are relatively narrow and greens smallish, so accuracy is needed. Greens were in very good condition, and the turf in general was better than a couple of other area courses I played the same week, as the drainage here was superior.
Atlantic National Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2014Nice layout
Good variety of holes and good turf conditions. TiffEagle greens are smallish and undulated, so reading putts well is crucial if you want to score low.
West at Inverrary Country Club
Played On 05/04/2014Good greens
Conditions are OK overall, but the greens are very nice, quick and smooth.
West at Inverrary Country Club
Played On 05/04/2014Go for the Greens
We played the East 18. The back nine is the more interesting layout. Fairways are OK, sand not so good, but the greens are really nice, much better than they were in the past couple of years. They match up with those of any course in the area. Definitely worth anything under $35 as far as fees.
Jensen Beach Golf Club
Played On 03/24/2014Don't pay more than $1.50 per hole
There's nothing wrong with this place that a few million dollars and some heavy equipment couldn't fix. In leaving so much of the marsh intact, the developers and designer left themselves with no options but to build a course with many forced carries and dogleg holes. Make sure you have your own GPS device with an overhead view of the holes. There are some squirrelly features around the greens and the turf is not in real good shape. Greens are just OK and very firm.
Cooper Colony Country Club
Played On 10/27/2013OK for beginners or if you just want to tune up your swing
It's as if they set down some holes on a really big driving range.
East at Orangebrook Country Club
Played On 10/14/2013Old-School Golf, Like 1500s
This is golf the way the Scots invented it -- in a goat pasture.
Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club
Played On 9/23/2013Worth a shot at bargain rate
This course dates back to about 1928, and the design reflects that. What makes it tougher than you might expect are several par-4s that require 250-yard carries over cross hazards if you want an approach with a mid-iron. Front nine does not drain well, so keep that in mind if it has rained recently. If greens were a little faster, could qualify as a gem.
Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne
Played On 6/17/2013Just a muni, after all
This course is on a great piece of land, very picturesque, but the greens have fungus problems and are not in good shape. The 15th fairway is an absolute mess, and there are mediocre lies in other fairways as well. Given the rack rate greens fees, this course is way overpriced and does not live up to its reputation. Also, the rough is too deep given the relatively narrow fairways, which really slows down play.
The Bridges at Springtree Golf Club
Played On 5/26/2013Very worthwhile
Very worthwhile executive course. Paspalum greens roll true.
